There is no single Sony-approved “best” EQ curve or microphone-gain number for every INZONE headset. The right result depends on your model, connection, game, voice-chat app and listening goal. The reliable approach is to route Windows audio to the headset’s Game endpoint, select its matching Chat microphone, then make small adjustments in INZONE Hub while monitoring a familiar game and a voice recording.
Do the connection and routing checks before moving sliders. Bluetooth, the wrong USB-transceiver mode, a Chat output selected as your game device, or a PS5 connection can leave Hub controls unavailable or make a perfectly good EQ appear ineffective.

What “best” means for an INZONE headset
Sony’s support documentation provides setup, compatibility and troubleshooting instructions rather than one universal preset. A curve that emphasizes positional details in a competitive shooter can make music thin, while a bass-forward setting that is enjoyable for single-player games can mask footsteps and reload cues. Microphone gain has the same trade-off: too little level sounds distant; too much exposes keyboard noise and room reflections.
Use the settings in this guide as a repeatable method, not as a claim that one set of numbers is correct for every INZONE model. Keep the EQ changes modest, listen at your normal volume, and judge the result with the particular game, music and chat application you actually use.

Identify the headset and the active connection first
Check the exact model
Open the model label in INZONE Hub or on the headset before changing anything. Endpoint names and available controls vary. Sony’s PC instructions specifically show a USB audio box in the setup path for the INZONE H3, E9 and H6 Air, while other models use a USB transceiver. The model determines which Game and Chat devices Windows displays and whether a setting is stored in Hub, in the headset or in another Sony app.
Use the supported PC path
For PC controls, Sony says to connect through the supported USB transceiver and set its switch to PC. The equalizer, spatial sound, dynamic range control, game/chat balance and microphone-volume controls listed by Sony require that path; Bluetooth does not activate those Hub controls. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance also says the listed Hub sound and microphone functions do not work on PS5, so a missing control on a console is not evidence that the headset is defective. Know where an EQ is stored
An EQ is not guaranteed to travel with the headset. Sony says INZONE Buds use the computer-connected EQ from INZONE Hub, stored on the computer, but use the Sound Connect EQ stored on the earbuds over Bluetooth. The H9 II also has separate Hub and onboard equalizer paths depending on the connection. If a preset seems to disappear when you change computers, phones or connection modes, check which app and storage location that mode uses instead of assuming the headset failed to save it. Route Game playback and Chat input before tuning
Hub can only alter the stream and microphone endpoint that Windows and your chat app are actually using. Windows 11 labels differ by model and version, but the procedure below follows Sony’s current example.
- Connect the headset correctly. Plug in the supplied USB transceiver or model-specific USB audio box, set the transceiver to PC, and wait for Windows to finish installing the device.
- Open Windows routing. Go to Settings → System → Sound → Volume mixer. Under the application you want to tune, select the headset entry whose name identifies your model and includes Game as the output. After installing or updating Hub, Windows may have assigned the Chat endpoint instead; change it manually.
- Set a default when needed. If your Windows build or application has no per-app output selector, return to Settings → System → Sound and make the model’s Game device the computer output.
- Select the Chat microphone. In the same Sound settings, choose the model-specific Chat recording device. In Discord, a game launcher or another voice app, select that same Chat microphone instead of a laptop mic or a generic USB input.
- Open INZONE Hub after routing. Confirm that the headset is shown as connected, then change one control and play a sound to verify that the change is audible. Sony’s setup article includes the Windows 11 labels and notes that they are an example; your endpoint names may be different.
These routing steps are described in Sony’s INZONE Hub setup instructions. Do not continue adjusting EQ while the application is still sending sound to Chat, a monitor, speakers or another headset.
Choose an EQ approach by listening goal
Start from the Hub’s neutral or unchanged state. Make one small change, listen to the same passage again, and keep it only if it improves the intended sound without creating a new problem. A familiar game scene, a spoken recording and a song you know well are better references than a random online test clip.

Change bands gradually
Move one band at a time and make the smallest audible change. If you boost several adjacent bands, overall level can rise and create clipping or listener fatigue; lowering an excessive band is often safer than boosting everything else. When a change sounds exciting for a minute but tiring after longer play, return toward neutral. Save a named profile only after checking it in the actual game and chat session.

Do not confuse EQ with other sound controls
Equalizer bands alter tonal balance. Spatial sound changes the presentation of direction and space; dynamic-range control changes the contrast between quiet and loud material; game/chat balance changes the relative level of two streams. Noise cancellation and ambient modes affect outside sound, not the frequency balance of the game itself. Treat each control as a separate experiment so you know which change solved a problem.
Set the microphone for clear speech
Verify the signal path
If people cannot hear you, first select the model-specific Chat recording device in Windows and in the voice application. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance also calls out the application’s own voice-chat settings, the hardware mute switch, and the boom’s position. On PS5, use the console’s Microphone Level control rather than expecting the PC Hub microphone control to work. The relevant checks are listed in Sony’s INZONE voice-chat troubleshooting article.
Adjust level with a meter or test call
- Open the voice app’s input test or make a short recording while speaking at your normal distance and volume.
- Raise the microphone level until ordinary speech is clear and consistently visible on the meter.
- Stop before loud consonants clip, the meter stays pinned, or room and keyboard noise become prominent.
- Have a chat partner confirm that quiet and loud words are both understandable, then test while a game is playing.
This is a practical calibration method, not a Sony-published numeric target. Microphone gain that is correct in a quiet room may be excessive beside a mechanical keyboard or fan. If the app offers its own input gain, avoid maxing both the Windows/Hub level and the app level at the same time.
Check mute and boom behavior
Confirm that the boom is fully lowered or positioned as the model requires and that its hardware mute is off. A muted boom, partially inserted connector or an app still listening to the laptop microphone can look like a gain problem. Change only one input setting at a time so you can identify the failing link.

Sidetone feeds some of your own microphone signal back to you. Sony explains that active sidetone can make noise cancellation seem weaker or make ambient sound seem louder, even when the headset’s noise-canceling hardware has not changed. If your room suddenly sounds intrusive during a call, lower or disable Sidetone in Hub on supported models and listen again. Sidetone is separate from microphone gain: lowering it changes what you hear, not what other people receive. Likewise, changing EQ will not repair a microphone that is routed to the wrong device.

EQ, spatial sound or microphone controls are greyed out
- Confirm the USB transceiver is connected and its switch is set to PC, not Bluetooth or another mode.
- Check that Windows and Hub are using the headset’s Game output, not Chat or a different playback device.
- Close and reopen Hub after changing the connection, then verify that the headset model is detected.
- Install the current Hub release shown on Sony’s INZONE Hub software page, following the model-specific instructions.
- If the headset is connected to a PS5, move the tuning work to a supported PC; Sony says the listed Hub sound and microphone functions are not available on PS5.
Sony documents this symptom and the connection checks in “The settings (Equalizer, Spatial Sound etc.) on the INZONE Hub software do not work.”
The EQ changes in Hub but you hear no difference
- Play audio from the application assigned to the Game endpoint and temporarily close other playback apps.
- Make a deliberately small test change, then return to the previous value; if neither is audible, routing is still wrong or the selected band has little energy in that material.
- Check whether your current connection uses an onboard or Sound Connect EQ instead of the computer-stored Hub EQ, as with the INZONE Buds and the H9 II’s separate paths.
- Do not stack Windows, game and Hub equalizers while diagnosing. Disable extra processing temporarily so you can identify which layer is active.
Chat partners hear silence or excessive noise
- Select the model-specific Chat recording device in both Windows and the chat app.
- Check hardware mute, boom position and any app-level mute or input-selection control.
- Use a short recording to separate a routing failure from an unsuitable level.
- Lower the level if speech clips or the room dominates; raise it only until normal speech is consistently clear.
The room sounds louder after joining chat
Check Sidetone first. Active sidetone can make ambient sound seem louder and noise cancellation seem weaker; adjust the Hub Sidetone control and recheck the boom position before changing the EQ or microphone gain.
A practical profile workflow
Once the connection is working, create profiles around activities rather than chasing a universal “best” number.
- Neutral baseline: keep EQ near unchanged, set a comfortable master volume, and confirm Game playback and Chat input.
- Game-detail profile: make one restrained tonal adjustment for the title you play most, then test footsteps, dialogue, effects and a quiet scene.
- Balanced profile: return toward neutral for mixed games, films and general use.
- Chat check: record speech while the game is running, set the microphone level below clipping, and verify that your chat partner hears you from the intended input.
- Long-session test: use each profile for at least one normal session. Fatigue, missing dialogue or intrusive room noise are reasons to undo a change.
Document the model, connection mode and app used for each profile. A profile saved on one computer may not be present on another, and an EQ used over Bluetooth may come from a different Sony app or onboard memory than the EQ used through Hub.
Quick pre-session checklist
- Exact INZONE model identified.
- Supported USB transceiver or USB audio box connected; transceiver switch set to PC.
- Game playback endpoint selected for Windows and the game.
- Matching Chat recording endpoint selected in Windows and the voice app.
- Hub detects the headset and the intended EQ path is active.
- Microphone boom and mute state checked; level verified with a meter or recording.
- Sidetone adjusted separately from noise cancellation and microphone gain.
- EQ changes made in small steps and checked with familiar audio.
Bottom line
The best INZONE settings are the ones that match your model, connection and goal. Route Game and Chat correctly first, use the supported PC connection for Hub controls, then tune EQ and microphone level with small, reversible changes. Sony does not publish one cross-model curve or gain value, and different connection paths can use different stored equalizers, so a careful calibration is more reliable than copying an unverified preset.
