Prioritize reliable contact management, useful segmentation, an easy campaign editor, the automations you will actually use, actionable reporting, and integrations with your existing tools. Then confirm the plan’s contact, send, user, and feature limits in your region before signing up.
Start with your business’s email workflow
Before comparing platforms, write down how email fits into your business. A shop may need signup forms and purchase follow-ups; a consultant may need a simple newsletter and welcome sequence; an event business may need registration capture and reminders. The “must-have” list should follow those jobs, not a generic checklist. A public discussion offers one example of readers naming automation, segmentation, templates, A/B testing, deliverability, CRM, landing pages, integrations, and analytics, but it is not a representative survey.

Features to evaluate
Contact capture and list management
Look for signup forms, usable contact records, and a straightforward way to organize people as your list grows. Check how the service stores contacts and whether its plan charges by stored contacts, sends, or both. Brevo’s plan page, for example, documents contact-storage limits; Constant Contact lists contact management, web signup forms, and segments on its US plans.

Segmentation and personalization
Segmentation is useful when you can act on the differences between groups: new subscribers, repeat customers, event attendees, or people interested in a particular product. Verify that the platform can build groups from the information and activity data you actually collect. Also check whether custom segments and dynamic email content are available on your intended tier. Constant Contact’s US comparison lists one custom segment on Lite, ten on Standard, and unlimited on Premium; dynamic email content is listed on Premium.

Campaign creation, templates, and scheduling
A drag-and-drop editor and suitable templates can make routine campaigns manageable without a designer. Scheduling helps you prepare messages in advance, while subject-line testing can help you compare options. Confirm these functions in the plan matrix rather than assuming every tier includes them: Constant Contact lists its editor and templates, and its feature matrix distinguishes scheduling and subject-line testing.
Automation for real follow-up needs
Start with the journeys your business needs, such as a welcome message or a relevant post-purchase follow-up. Then compare how many workflows or templates the plan allows, which contacts can enter them, and whether automation is included at all. Brevo’s documentation lists multi-channel marketing automation on Free for up to 2,000 contacts and automation for unlimited contacts on Standard. Those are plan-specific limits, not a guarantee that every workflow or contact allowance is identical across providers.
Reporting that helps you make decisions
Basic campaign reports may be enough to see opens and clicks; more detailed reporting can help a team investigate performance. Decide which metrics will inform your next campaign, then check that the plan exposes those reports at the level of detail you need. Constant Contact distinguishes basic reporting on Lite from advanced open/click reporting on Standard.
Integrations and team access
Check for connections to the website, online store, CRM, or event tools you already use, and verify that the integration supports the data flow you need. A large integration count is less useful than compatibility with your actual stack. If several people will manage campaigns, compare user-seat limits too: Constant Contact lists 300 integrations and different user counts across its US tiers.
Deliverability, testing, and adjacent tools
Deliverability, A/B testing, landing pages, and CRM capabilities often appear on feature checklists, but their presence alone does not establish quality or fit. Confirm what the vendor means by each feature and whether it is included in your plan. The reviewed vendor pages do not establish an independent deliverability ranking, so do not treat a feature claim as proof that one service will outperform another in reaching inboxes.
Compare plan limits, not just feature names
A feature marked “included” may still be constrained by contacts, workflow templates, monthly sends, segments, reports, or user seats. Build a comparison around the numbers that match your use case.

Rank #4
Its UK page displays Starter Email at £4 per month, Lite at £8, Standard at £21, and Premium at £89, excluding VAT. Plan details and sending limits are presented separately from the US page, so the displayed prices should not be compared as if they were the same market or billing basis: Constant Contact UK plans.
Mailchimp
Mailchimp’s pricing page shows a free tier with a 250-contact limit and warns that sending will be paused if contact or email-send limits are exceeded. The page localizes pricing, so check the currency, plan details, and limits shown for your region: Mailchimp plan details.

- Set your operating numbers: estimate current and likely contact count, campaigns per month, and expected sends.
- List required workflows: identify the capture forms, segments, automations, reports, and integrations you will use—not features you might never touch.
- Check the exact plan: verify each required function alongside its contact, send, workflow, segment, report, and seat limits.
- Confirm local terms: compare the plan names, billing basis, currency, and overage or pause behavior on the provider page for your market.
- Recheck as you grow: revisit limits and plan fit when your list, sending cadence, or team changes.
Vendor feature pages establish what the providers say their plans include; they do not independently prove comparative performance or identify a universal best service. The right choice is the plan whose limits and workflows fit your business without paying for capabilities you do not need.
