The dependable replacement for a worn or failed DualSense Edge stick is Sony’s removable Stick Module, model CFI-ZSM1. Sony documents a user swap that needs no soldering or separate repair tool, and says the same module works on either the left or right side. Third-party Hall-effect, TMR and converted-module claims exist, but no specific aftermarket drop-in module, seller, stock position or compatibility program is verified here. The official route is unusually straightforward because the Edge is designed around a removable stick module. Do not assume that a replacement joystick board, cap assembly or module advertised for another controller will fit: Sony’s UK listing states that CFI-ZSM1 is not for other controllers.

What is the official DualSense Edge replacement module?
Sony’s separately sold part is the DualSense Edge Stick Module CFI-ZSM1. The US PlayStation Direct description says it is for the DualSense Edge wireless controller only and that left and right modules can be attached to either side. The UK listing names the same model and describes a box containing one module with a standard cap plus a user manual.
The indexed UK price was £19.99 when that listing was captured. That is a UK reference, not a worldwide or permanent price. Stock, taxes and pricing can change, so check the PlayStation retailer for your region immediately before purchase. The listing’s “one module” packaging also matters if both sticks need replacement: one box is not a pair.
Use the official model number when searching or asking a retailer to confirm stock. A listing that says only “replacement joystick,” “analog stick,” or “Edge repair” does not establish that it is the complete CFI-ZSM1 module.

Can I replace a worn DualSense Edge stick myself?
Yes. Sony’s support procedure is a user-serviceable module swap. It does not call for soldering, opening the controller chassis or a separate repair tool. Work on a clean, stable surface and keep the replacement module and its cap protected from dust while the controller is open.
- Turn the controller off. Confirm that the player indicator is off before touching the module.
- Disconnect USB. Unplug the USB cable so the controller is not connected to power or a host device during the swap.
- Remove the front cover. Hold the controller securely and use the rear RELEASE latch to remove the cover according to Sony’s support instructions. Do not pry around the sticks or force the cover from the front.
- Raise the module release lever. The lever locks the stick module in its guide. Lift it fully; a partially raised lever can prevent the old module from sliding out or the new one from seating.
- Slide out the old module. Pull the module along its grooves rather than twisting it. If it resists, recheck that the lever is completely raised.
- Align the replacement. Place the new CFI-ZSM1 module into the controller’s grooves and slide it in evenly.
- Check the click. Continue until the module clicks into position. A click is the seating indication in Sony’s sequence; do not operate the controller with the module only partly inserted.
- Lower the lever. Return the release lever to its locked position so the module is held securely.
- Refit the cover. Reinstall the front cover, making sure it sits flush and is retained by the controller’s latch.
- Reconnect and test. Reconnect the controller, power it on and test the affected stick in a game or the console interface. Check neutral position, full travel in every direction, clicking and the stick button.
If the lever will not lower, the module is probably not fully aligned in its grooves. Remove power again, raise the lever, reseat the module without forcing it and repeat the cover step only after it is fully seated.

Are left and right Edge stick modules the same?
Yes. Sony’s support guidance states: “Left and right stick modules are interchangeable and can be attached to either side.” That means you do not need to buy a left-specific and right-specific CFI-ZSM1. The same replacement can occupy either bay.
Interchangeability does not mean every stick-related part is interchangeable. The module is the replaceable unit; caps are separate user-facing pieces and may have different shapes or heights. Keep track of which cap you remove and refit the cap only after the module itself is locked in place.

A Hall-effect or TMR sensor is often marketed as a way to reduce the mechanical wear associated with conventional potentiometer sticks. However, the available evidence does not verify a specific Hall-effect or TMR module as a confirmed, drop-in replacement for the DualSense Edge.
A third-party repair article updated September 27, 2026 discusses aftermarket or modified possibilities, but it does not establish a named compatible module, a current seller, stock, a replacement procedure, or a warranty program. Do not treat a generic “Hall-effect Edge upgrade” claim as proof that the product fits, calibrates or works with the Edge.

- Current stock, dispatch region and return conditions.

- Clear instructions identifying which parts are included, including the stick cap.
Do not assume that “Hall effect” or “TMR” guarantees zero drift, permanent life or an easier installation. Those outcomes require product-specific evidence and a clear warranty.
How should you choose between the verified and unverified routes?
Choose the official CFI-ZSM1 when certainty matters
The Sony module is the sensible default when you need a replacement that is documented for the Edge, installs through the controller’s existing release mechanism and does not require soldering. It is also the only option in this comparison with direct manufacturer instructions and a stated left/right interchangeability policy.
Consider a third-party module only after compatibility checks
An aftermarket unit can be considered if a seller can demonstrate exact Edge compatibility and provide clear return and warranty terms. Ask whether the product is new, repaired, converted or merely a bare sensor board. Those categories are not equivalent: a bare board may require opening the removable module or controller, while a complete module should follow the same physical insertion path only if the seller explicitly confirms it.
Use a repair provider for faults beyond the removable module
Seek diagnosis rather than automatically buying another module when the controller has multiple unrelated symptoms, visible connector damage, liquid exposure, a cover that will not latch, or a stick-button and input problem that remains after a correctly seated replacement. No named repair provider or standard price is established, so obtain a written scope, total cost, turnaround and warranty before shipping the controller.
How to tell whether the module is really the problem
A worn module commonly presents as unwanted movement around the neutral position, a character or camera that moves without input, a direction that fails to reach full travel, or a stick button that does not register. Those symptoms point toward the module, but they do not prove that the removable unit is the only failed part.

Use a simple sequence before ordering:
- Test the affected stick in more than one game or input screen to rule out a game-specific control setting.
- Check whether the fault affects one stick or both. A single-stick fault is more consistent with replacing one module; broad controller behavior suggests a wider diagnosis.
- Confirm that the module is fully seated and the release lever is locked. A loose module can imitate a failed one.
- Check the stick button separately from analog movement. A replacement module should be evaluated for both functions.
- Record the symptom before removal, then retest after installation. This makes it easier to distinguish a solved drift problem from a separate button, cover or software issue.
These checks do not replace Sony’s hardware instructions, but they prevent buying a second module when the first was not the actual source of the fault.

The front cover will not come off
Stop and use the rear RELEASE latch as Sony specifies. Do not lever against the stick caps or insert a tool into the seam. If the cover is not releasing, power down and inspect the latch position rather than increasing force.
The old module will not slide out
Raise the module release lever completely. The module travels in grooves; pulling upward or twisting can bind it. If it still will not move, stop and check for debris or visible damage instead of forcing the mechanism.
The new module does not click
Remove it, verify the orientation and align both sides with the grooves. A module that is only partly inserted should not be secured by lowering the lever. Reinsert it evenly until the click occurs.
The lever will not lock
The module is likely not fully home or is misaligned. Raise the lever, slide the module out, inspect the guides and reseat it. If the lever or guide is damaged, a repair assessment is safer than forcing it.

The original symptom remains
Confirm the replacement is a genuine, correctly identified CFI-ZSM1 or a seller-verified Edge-compatible unit, then repeat the seating and test steps. If the same fault persists with a correctly installed module, the problem may be elsewhere in the controller and warrants diagnosis.
The controller develops a new problem after the swap
Power it off, disconnect USB and inspect the cover, lever and module seating. Do not continue using a controller with a loose module. If physical damage is visible or the controller no longer responds normally, document the condition and contact the seller or a qualified repair provider.
What does the replacement cost and what is included?
The only captured price is the UK listing’s £19.99 for one CFI-ZSM1 module. It is a dated, region-specific listing value and must not be treated as a current global price. The UK package description includes one module with a standard cap and a user manual.

For a current purchase decision, compare the delivered total rather than the headline number. Check regional taxes, shipping, seller identity, stock status, return window and whether the listing is for one module or a bundle. Aftermarket listings should additionally disclose whether the unit is repaired, converted or new and whether installation is included.
What is the safest buying checklist?
- Confirm that the controller is a DualSense Edge, not a standard DualSense or another gamepad.
- Match the official part number CFI-ZSM1 where you want the documented Sony replacement.
- Verify that the listing is a complete module and state whether one or two modules are needed.
- Check that the seller ships to your region and that the displayed price and stock are current.
- Read the return and warranty terms before opening the package.
- For aftermarket Hall-effect or TMR claims, obtain explicit Edge compatibility and installation details; otherwise treat the offer as unverified.
When should you stop replacing parts?
Stop ordering modules when the fault is not isolated to one stick, when a correctly installed replacement behaves exactly like the original, or when the controller has connector, latch, liquid or impact damage. At that point, the relevant choice is diagnosis or repair, not a different stick technology chosen on the basis of an unverified claim.
For a single worn or nonworking stick with an intact controller, Sony’s CFI-ZSM1 remains the clear, documented answer: it is the Edge-specific module, it fits either side, and Sony provides the complete removal and installation sequence.
