The right choice depends on each monitor’s weight without its stand, VESA hole pattern, screen depth, desired layout and your desk’s thickness and edge clearance. For a conventional horizontal pair, start with a side-by-side arm such as the Ergotron LX Dual Side-by-Side Arm. For a vertical arrangement, consider a stacking model such as the Ergotron LX Pro Dual Stacking Arm. If you need a high published load range and support for larger displays, the Mount-It! MI-4882 is listed for screens up to 35 inches and 4.4–44 lb per arm.
Use the specifications and fit procedure below before ordering. A model’s maximum capacity or screen-size headline does not, by itself, prove that it will safely support your particular monitors.

What to measure before you choose an arm
Do these checks for each monitor. Record the results before comparing products; otherwise it is easy to choose an arm that fits one screen but not the other.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
1. Weight without the factory stand
Remove the stand from the manufacturer’s specification or weigh the display after removing it. Compare that figure with the arm’s published per-monitor range, not merely the combined capacity of two arms. Include any speaker bar, webcam shelf or other accessory that will remain attached to the VESA plate. A monitor near an arm’s upper limit can also be subject to restrictions based on depth or the chosen configuration.
For example, the MI-4882 is listed at 4.4–44 lb per arm. Each screen must fall inside that range; adding the two weights together does not make an underweight or overweight individual display acceptable.
2. VESA mounting pattern
Look at the four threaded holes on the back of each display and measure center-to-center horizontally and vertically. The documented examples in this guide accept 75 × 75 mm and 100 × 100 mm patterns. Do not assume every monitor uses one of those sizes, and do not assume that a VESA label guarantees the supplied screws are correct for your display. Check thread size and length in both manuals.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
3. Screen size, width and depth
Screen size in inches is only one constraint. Two monitors with the same diagonal measurement can have different widths, bezels and centers of gravity. Curved or unusually deep models may sit farther forward and require more arm reach. Ergotron specifically notes that a display deeper than 8 inches may affect capacity on HX configurations. Treat that as a configuration condition, not a universal limit for every arm.
4. Desired arrangement
- Side-by-side: best when both screens should occupy one horizontal workspace. Check whether the arms can bring the inner edges together without forcing one panel too far forward.
- Stacked: best when desk width is limited or one screen is intended as an upper reference display. Confirm that the arm has enough vertical range and that the desk and wall behind it leave room for the upper monitor.
- Offset or angled: useful when one display is primary and the second is turned toward you. Check pivot range and cable slack before tightening the joints.
5. Desk attachment and clearance
Identify whether the arm uses a clamp, a grommet mount or both. Measure desktop thickness at the mounting point, inspect the edge shape and make sure the underside is clear of drawers, modesty panels and crossbars. A clamp that fits a straight, open edge may not fit a beveled edge or a desktop with a recessed frame.

- Two Ways to Install: We offer two desk mounting options: C-clamp mounting for desks 0.39″–2.76″ thick, or grommet base mounting for desks 0.39″–2.76″ thick. With straightforward instructions, you can set up your vesa monitor mount effortlessly, making it a hassle-free addition to your desk. We only recommend installing it on a wooden desk, preferably with no crossbeam blocking the underside.
Desk-thickness limits are model-specific. A September 11, 2025 Tom’s Guide monitor-arm selection highlights a thickness constraint for its Vari dual-arm example, but that constraint should not be generalized to other arms. Use the exact manufacturer documentation for the model you plan to install.
How the leading candidates differ
Ergotron LX Dual Side-by-Side Arm
The LX Dual Side-by-Side Arm is the straightforward choice when the goal is a horizontal pair on one desk mount. Ergotron’s product sheet, dated March 26, 2020, identifies two monitor arms and VESA FDMI MIS-D compatibility for 75 × 75 mm and 100 × 100 mm patterns.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Those details establish the mounting pattern and side-by-side format, but they do not eliminate the need to check current capacity. Product configurations can change, and the weight of a modern monitor varies substantially with its stand, panel size and built-in hardware. Confirm the live model’s per-screen range, supported display dimensions, clamp or grommet options and cable-management provisions before ordering.
Ergotron LX Pro Dual Stacking Arm
The LX Pro dual-stacking configuration is aimed at a vertical pair. It is relevant when desk width is the limiting factor or when the upper screen is used for persistent reference material. The catalog listing confirms the stacking configuration, but the available specification material does not state a complete capacity, screen-size or mounting table for this exact configuration.
That missing detail matters: a stacking setup places one display higher and may require more vertical travel and more structural clearance than a side-by-side arrangement. Treat the LX Pro as a candidate to verify, not as proof that every two-monitor combination will fit. Obtain the current capacity and mounting instructions for the exact LX Pro model before purchase.

- Computer Compatibility - To ensure compatibility of the dual monitor stand, each of your monitors must meet three conditions: Firstly, computer screen size range: 17 to 33 inches. Secondly, screen weight range: 4.4 to 22 lbs. Thirdly, there must be VESA mounting holes on the back of the monitor screen that are spaced 75x75 mm or 100x100 mm apart. Please make sure that your monitor meets all of the above conditions before purchasing.
- Maximum Flexibility - The monitor stand features +/-90° left and right swivel for multi-screen co-driving, +90° to -35° up and down tilt for your office comfort, and 360° swivel for landscape and portrait modes.
- Height & Extension Adjustment - The dual monitor arm for 2 monitors can be positioned as high as 17.5″ above the desk surface, allowing you to raise your screens closer to eye level for more comfort. The flexible arms can extend the screens 17.5″ closer to you for a more immersive viewing experience.
- Easy to install - The structured monitor stand is very easy to install, you can choose C-clamp or grommet hole as needed. For the sake of using experience, please check if your table meets the following three conditions: Material first, we only recommend wooden table. Table form secondly, The bottom of the table should preferably be free of any beams or panels that may interfere with installation. Table thickness thirdly,'C' clamp fits 0.39"-2.56" while grommet mount fits 0.39"-2.17".
- Advanced Technology -Tested for 20,000 cycles, our dual monitor arm holds the screen securely in place while allowing for smooth, easy adjustments. Additionally, the long service life of it will enhance your experience.
Mount-It! MI-4882 Heavy Duty Dual Monitor Arm
The manufacturer lists the MI-4882 for two screens up to 35 inches, with a stated capacity of 4.4–44 lb per arm and VESA support for 75 × 75 mm and 100 × 100 mm patterns. That wide per-arm range makes it a candidate for heavier displays, provided each monitor independently meets the requirements.
Do not read “up to 35 inches” as a guarantee for every 35-inch monitor. Width, depth, curvature, center of gravity and the arm’s reach can change the practical fit. Check the current model’s desk-thickness range, clamp or grommet design, rear clearance and any restrictions on deep displays.
Ergotron HX family with a dual bow kit
The HX family can be configured with optional dual- or triple-monitor bow kits. This is a system choice rather than a claim that every HX arm and every bow kit are interchangeable. Ergotron’s product information warns that display depth over 8 inches may affect capacity.
For an HX installation, verify four items together: the exact arm, the pivot or hinge, the bow kit and the two monitors. A kit that supports two light, shallow displays may not have the same limits with heavy, deep or curved panels.
Comparison criteria that prevent bad fits
| Criterion | What to verify | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Per-screen load | Minimum and maximum weight for each arm, measured with the stand removed and accessories included. | Combined weight is not a substitute for the limit on either individual arm. |
| VESA pattern | Hole spacing on each monitor, screw thread and screw length. | A mount cannot be attached safely when the plate and display holes do not match. |
| Depth and center of gravity | Rear housing depth, curvature and how far the screen projects from the plate. | Deep displays can reduce usable capacity and may need more reach. |
| Geometry | Panel width, bezel size, vertical height and desired angle. | Two displays with identical diagonal sizes may still collide or sit too far apart. |
| Range of motion | Arm reach, height adjustment, tilt, swivel and rotation for the exact model. | Specs that support the weight may still leave the screens too low, high or far forward. |
| Desk mount | Clamp or grommet method, supported thickness, edge shape and underside clearance. | A strong arm is unusable if the attachment cannot seat fully on your desk. |
| Installation hardware | Included bolts, washers, spacers and cable clips; compatibility with your desk material. | Missing spacers or incorrect screws can prevent a secure installation even when VESA spacing matches. |
A step-by-step buying process
- Write down both monitor weights without their stands. Add the weight of accessories that will remain mounted.
- Measure both VESA patterns. Record horizontal and vertical spacing, then check the display manual for screw specifications.
- Measure screen depth and width. Include the thickest rear section, not just the panel at its edge.
- Choose the layout. Decide between side-by-side, stacked or an angled arrangement before comparing arm reach and height.
- Measure the desk. Record thickness at the clamp point, edge shape, underside obstructions and the distance to the wall.
- Filter candidates by per-screen capacity. Reject any model whose minimum or maximum range does not contain both monitors individually.
- Confirm VESA and hardware compatibility. Check that the plate, screw size and screw length match both displays; identify whether spacers are required.
- Check geometry and depth conditions. Read the model-specific notes for curved or deep screens, including Ergotron’s more-than-8-inch HX depth caveat.
- Verify the current configuration. Manufacturer catalogs and product pages can change. Confirm the exact model number, included mount type and current limits immediately before ordering.
- Plan cable length. Move each arm through its intended range and make sure video, power and USB leads will not pull on the connectors.
Installation and adjustment checklist
Follow the arm manufacturer’s manual for the exact bolt sequence and torque. The following order helps avoid common mistakes without replacing those instructions.

- Clear the desk and inspect the mounting edge and underside for damage or weak particleboard.
- Assemble the clamp or grommet hardware loosely, seat it squarely and tighten it against a solid section of the desktop.
- Install the arm base and verify that it cannot rotate or rock before adding monitors.
- Attach the VESA plates to the monitors with the correct screws. Stop if a screw bottoms out before the plate is tight; use the specified spacer or a shorter screw.
- Lift or support the first monitor while attaching it to the arm. Do not let the panel hang from a partially engaged hook or bolt.
- Repeat with the second monitor, keeping the arm joints at their neutral position until both screens are secure.
- Set the tension or counterbalance for each arm using the monitor’s actual weight. If a screen rises, drops or drifts, adjust the tension rather than forcing the joint.
- Route cables with enough slack for full swivel, tilt and height movement. Leave a gentle loop near each moving joint.
- Set the final positions, then recheck the clamp, VESA screws and tension after the monitors have remained in place for a short period.
Positioning a side-by-side pair
Start with the primary screen directly in front of your chair and place the secondary screen beside it. Align the top edges only if that position is comfortable and physically possible; different panel heights or stands can make a slight offset more natural. Keep the inner bezels close without pressing the panels together, and angle the outer edges toward you if the arms allow it.
Check the full travel of both arms before final tightening. A position that looks correct at the center of the desk may push one arm into a wall, shelf or monitor stand when you rotate it. Leave enough space behind the desk for the arm joints and cable loops.
Positioning a stacked pair
Place the lower monitor at the height and distance you use for primary work. Raise the second display only as far as you can view it without repeatedly leaning back or extending your neck. Confirm that the upper arm does not collide with a shelf, window frame or wall, and that the lower screen remains adjustable after the upper screen is attached.
Because the exact capacity and height range vary by stacking model, do not infer that a side-by-side arm can safely be rearranged into a vertical stack. Use a configuration explicitly documented for stacking.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCommon problems and fixes
The monitor slowly drops
Recheck the display’s stand-free weight, confirm that it is inside the arm’s per-screen range and increase tension according to the manual. A deep display or accessory may trigger a model-specific capacity restriction even when the scale weight appears acceptable.

The screen will not sit level
Loosen the VESA plate enough to correct its orientation, verify that all four holes are engaged and tighten evenly. If the plate is level but the panel still tilts, adjust the arm’s tilt joint rather than twisting the display.
The clamp rocks or damages the desk
Stop using the mount until the clamp is fully seated on a solid section of the desktop. Check thickness and underside clearance against the model’s instructions. A damaged or hollow edge may need reinforcement or a different mounting location; do not compensate by overtightening.
The two monitors collide
Measure the actual panel widths and bezel positions, then reduce swivel or move one arm farther back. If the arms cannot create the required separation at their documented reach, choose a mount with a different geometry instead of forcing the joints.
Recommended Free Tools
Cables pull tight during movement
Power down, add slack near each joint and reroute the cables through the supplied clips. Test the full height, tilt and swivel range before reconnecting all peripherals.
The monitor has no matching VESA holes
Do not drill the display housing. Consult the monitor manufacturer for an approved adapter or mounting solution and verify that adding it does not exceed the arm’s weight or depth limits. An adapter is a monitor-specific accessory, not a universal requirement for dual arms.
Prices, listings and model verification
Prices, stock and retailer listings were not established for these models and can change by region and date. Treat a marketplace title as a lead, not as the specification. Match the listing’s model number to the current manufacturer documentation and confirm whether it includes a desk clamp, grommet hardware, both, or neither.
For the MI-4882, check that the listing still states the 35-inch maximum, 4.4–44 lb per-arm range and 75 × 75 mm/100 × 100 mm VESA support. For the LX and HX families, verify the exact suffix, bow or stacking kit and current capacity rather than relying on a family name. Ergotron’s comparison document dated May 1, 2024 illustrates why: arms in the same manufacturer’s range have distinct capacity bands and are not automatically interchangeable.

Choose the arm that passes every fit check for both monitors and your desk, then select the layout that matches how you work. The LX Dual Side-by-Side is the logical starting point for a documented horizontal arrangement; the LX Pro dual-stacking configuration is the candidate to investigate for a vertical pair; the MI-4882 is worth considering when both screens fit its stated 4.4–44 lb-per-arm and 35-inch limits; and an HX bow-kit setup requires especially careful checking of the exact components and display depth. If any weight, VESA, depth or desk-mount value is unknown, verify it before purchasing rather than treating a headline specification as a guarantee.
