They are ordering options, not proven AI-powered replacements: the available evidence does not establish a neutral ranking of which competitors use AI to place restaurant orders. DoorDash itself has announced AI-related menu guidance and conversational ordering, but access depends on the feature and its rollout. Compare the restaurant, address, fulfillment option, and full checkout total before choosing.
What counts as ordering food with AI?
“AI ordering” can refer to different steps: helping choose a restaurant, explaining or customizing a menu item, building a cart, or completing checkout through a conversation. Those functions are not interchangeable. A recommendation does not necessarily place an order, and a conversational interface may hand checkout to a delivery service.

- Discovery: AI suggests where or what to eat. DoorDash reported that 22% of U.S. consumers had used an AI tool such as ChatGPT or Google Gemini to help choose a restaurant. That is a DoorDash-published 2026 survey finding, not evidence that those tools could complete an order. DoorDash describes the survey as nationally representative, involving more than 3,000 U.S. consumers and over 500 restaurant operators. DoorDash’s 2026 survey findings.
- Menu guidance: AI helps navigate choices or customize a dish. DoorDash announced a guided visual experience for pizza selections such as size, crust, sauce, and toppings on March 4, 2026. The company said more than 150 million pizza orders were placed on its platform in 2025; that is company-reported order volume, not a count of AI-assisted orders. DoorDash’s pizza-ordering announcement.
- Cart building: A conversational tool turns a request into items for review. DoorDash’s December 2025 ChatGPT integration was for grocery shopping: it could turn recipe ideas into a grocery list and order from local stores, with the user reviewing the cart and completing checkout through DoorDash. The announcement said it was initially live for select users, with broader expansion planned. It is not restaurant delivery. DoorDash and OpenAI’s announcement.
- Conversational restaurant ordering: A user describes a craving or mood and the service searches restaurants, suggests a cart, and supports checkout in the conversation. DoorDash described this text-based restaurant-ordering experience in 2026, with U.S. users able to apply to try it in beta. That announcement does not establish general availability. DoorDash’s text-ordering announcement.
For any AI feature, check whether it is available to your account and location, what service fulfills the order, and where final checkout happens. Do not assume that a feature announcement or beta application means the feature is available to every customer.

Apple’s U.S. App Store editorial list names Uber Eats and Grubhub as third-party ordering apps, and lists restaurant-specific apps including Starbucks, McDonald’s, Chipotle, and Taco Bell. These are examples, not a complete directory or a guarantee that a restaurant delivers to your address. Apple’s U.S. list of food-ordering apps.

Uber Eats and Grubhub: browse across restaurants
Third-party marketplaces are useful when you want to browse participating restaurants in one place and arrange delivery. The available sources do not establish which has better coverage, lower fees, or more reliable service in a particular area, nor do they verify specific AI ordering capabilities for either app. Check your address and compare the same order at checkout.
Restaurant apps and websites: order from a known restaurant
If you already know where you want to eat, the restaurant’s own app or website is another route. DoorDash’s 2025 consumer-trends article says restaurant websites were the second-most preferred online ordering channel after third-party apps. Whether a direct channel offers pickup, delivery, or both depends on the restaurant; there is no universal arrangement. DoorDash for Merchants’ 2025 consumer-trends article.

AI interfaces: useful when they solve a specific step
An AI interface may help translate “something spicy, vegetarian, and quick” into menu suggestions or a draft cart. Before relying on it, confirm the listed items and modifiers, the restaurant, and the checkout destination. The documented DoorDash ChatGPT integration is a grocery use case, while DoorDash’s text-based restaurant ordering was described as a beta. The available sources do not establish a competitor with a universally available, independently tested AI restaurant-ordering advantage.

How to compare services for your order
| What to check | Why it matters | How to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurant and address coverage | A service is useful only if the restaurant is listed and can serve your location. | Enter your address in each service and confirm the restaurant is accepting orders. No cross-service coverage map is established by the cited sources. |
| Delivery or pickup | A marketplace, restaurant app, or AI interface may support different ways to get the food. | Check the available fulfillment choices for that restaurant. DoorDash reported in 2026 that 64% of consumers would prefer one app to manage delivery, pickup, and reservations; this indicates interest, not that every app combines those functions. DoorDash’s 2026 survey findings. |
| Full checkout total | Menu prices alone do not show what the order will cost. | Compare the same items and delivery address, including menu prices, delivery and service fees, membership conditions, tip, and the total before placing the order. The cited sources do not support naming a universally cheapest service. |
| AI feature and access | Recommendations, menu interpretation, cart creation, and checkout are different capabilities. | Look for the specific feature in your account and location; confirm who fulfills the order and where you pay. |
| Dietary and allergen information | A recommendation interface cannot guarantee that menu details are complete or accurate. | Check the restaurant’s current information and contact it directly when a dietary restriction or allergen could affect your safety. DoorDash reported in 2026 that 59% of consumers actively seek allergen and dietary details when ordering or welcome them when available; that survey finding does not certify app listings. DoorDash’s 2026 survey findings. |
What survey figures do—and do not—say about AI ordering
Consumer interest is not the same as proof that an AI ordering product works everywhere or is available to everyone. In a 2025 Dynata survey conducted for DoorDash from February 25 to March 3 among 1,504 U.S.-based people, 52% of diners were open to personalized AI recommendations based on past orders, while 15% fully trusted AI to prepare restaurant meals. These figures describe attitudes in that survey, not the performance of a specific service. DoorDash’s 2025 survey article and methodology.

DoorDash for Merchants’ 2025 article reported that 46% of consumers preferred ordering out via third-party apps and websites, and that consumers averaged 4.6 third-party-app delivery orders per month. Those are DoorDash-published consumer-trend figures, not independently verified market totals or a comparison of named services. DoorDash for Merchants’ 2025 consumer-trends article.
