Short answer: if your door has a standard 12–14 mm peephole, the Ring Peephole Cam 2K (2nd Gen, 2026 release) is the best-supported pick in this guide. If you want a big indoor screen and microSD recording, and your door is thicker or the hole wider, choose the EZVIZ EP4. The EZVIZ CP4 is a third model worth checking, but we can’t rank it with confidence.
This is a specification-based comparison, not a lab test. We haven’t hands-on tested these cameras. Our sources are the manufacturers’ product pages, an EZVIZ datasheet, and one independent review of the EP4. Where evidence is thin, we say so.

Measure your door before anything else
Fit ranges differ a lot between models, so this decides more than any feature. Measure two things:

One-click scans. No signup required.
- Peephole diameter: the hole itself, in millimetres.
- Door thickness: the full slab, measured at the peephole.
Ring’s range is narrow: 12–14 mm for the hole. EZVIZ lists 14–50 mm for the EP4, which covers many more hole sizes on paper. A 14 mm hole fits both. Confirm that the exact model and regional variant you buy matches the manufacturer page.

Ring Peephole Cam 2K (2nd Gen, 2026 release)
Ring’s US product page positions this camera for apartments and condos and says it replaces your existing peephole without drilling. Ring’s stated specifications:
- 2K video
- Field of view of 140° × 140° (173° diagonal)
- Peephole diameter of 0.47–0.55 in (12–14 mm)
- Door thickness of about 1.28–2.36 in (32.5–60 mm)
- Two-way talk
- Quick-release battery pack
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 4
The key trade-off: Ring says you lose the physical peephole once it’s installed. You see visitors through the Ring app or a compatible Echo Show. If your phone is dead, or you want a glass fallback, that matters. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. We haven’t verified the full current recording-plan cost for your region, so check Ring’s local plan terms before assuming what saved video costs.

EZVIZ EP4 Wire-Free Peephole Door Viewer
EZVIZ’s EP4 listing gives these specifications:
- 5.5-inch colour touchscreen on the inside of the door
- Local microSD storage up to 512 GB
- 4K maximum resolution (3840 × 2160) at 15 fps
- 160° diagonal viewing angle
- Hole diameter of 14–50 mm and door thickness of 35–105 mm
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
- Local and remote video intercom
- Up to four customizable privacy zones
The screen means you can check the door without a phone, and local storage means saved clips don’t depend on a subscription. EZVIZ says its CloudPlay cloud service is available only in certain markets, so don’t assume it exists where you live.
In a review published July 5, 2026, TechRadar reported installing and using the EP4 in an apartment. Its reviewer found the camera did not show parcels left on the doorstep, and that familiar-face detection didn’t stop repeated alerts when the reviewer came home. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guaranteed outcome, but it shows what to check: the downward view and alert tuning.

EZVIZ CP4: a provisional third option
EZVIZ publishes a datasheet for the CP4 Wire-Free Peephole Doorbell covering fit, storage and connectivity. We found no independent test of it and couldn’t establish current stock or pricing in a specific market. We therefore list it as a model to compare if you can buy it locally, not as a proven third-best. Read the datasheet’s fit range against your measurements first.
Which one should you buy?
- Your hole is 12–14 mm and your door is 32.5–60 mm thick: Ring is the straightforward fit, if you’re comfortable giving up the glass viewer.
- Your hole is wider than 14 mm, or your door is thicker than 60 mm: Ring won’t fit. Look at the EP4, if your door falls within 35–105 mm.
- You want to see visitors without a phone: the EP4’s indoor screen is the clearer choice.
- You want to avoid cloud plans: the EP4’s microSD slot allows local recording, though cloud availability varies by market.
Apartment, lease and privacy checks
Installing without drilling doesn’t mean your landlord or condo association allows it. Check your lease and building rules first. Also consider what the lens captures: a camera facing a shared corridor can record neighbours’ doors and movements. Use the EP4’s privacy zones where available, and avoid recording audio unless you know it’s permitted. Laws vary by location, and we haven’t researched any specific jurisdiction.
