Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a straightforward vertical short-form setup, switch the Osmo Pocket 3 to Portrait, choose Normal Video, and record at 3K (9:16) and 30fps. Use 60fps for fast movement or footage you may slow down later; choose 1080p when smaller files and a lighter editing workflow matter. These are practical recording recommendations, not required settings from TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube.
Set the camera for the footage you want to capture, then choose export settings in your editor. The camera’s supported recording modes are documented by DJI; current upload and export requirements for the three platforms are not established here.

Recommended Pocket 3 settings by scene
| Use | Starting settings | Why choose them |
|---|---|---|
| Talking clips and everyday short-form | Portrait; Normal Video; 3K (9:16), 30fps | Native vertical framing and more resolution than 1080p. 30fps is a practical general-purpose choice, not a platform rule. |
| Walking, movement, or active scenes | Portrait; Normal Video; 3K (9:16), 60fps | The higher capture rate can preserve smoother motion or allow some slow-down in editing. It can also mean larger files and more editing work. |
| Smaller files or a lighter workflow | Portrait; Normal Video; 1080p (9:16), 30fps | Use this when 3K detail is unnecessary or you want to keep capture and editing simpler. |
| Slow-motion insert | Dedicated Slow Motion mode; select an available rate and resolution | DJI lists 4K at 100/120fps, 2.7K at 120fps, and 1080p at 120/240fps in Slow Motion mode. These are not 4K/120 Normal Video portrait settings. |
| Horizontal master or reframing later | Landscape; Normal Video; 4K at up to 60fps | Choose this if the horizontal composition matters more than native vertical framing. Cropping it to 9:16 later can cut off parts of the scene. |
DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 User Manual lists native 9:16 Normal Video at 3K (1728×3072), 2.7K (1512×2688), and 1080p (1080×1920), each at 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, or 60fps. Landscape Normal Video includes 4K (3840×2160) at those frame rates; portrait Normal Video tops out at 3K.

The Pocket 3 can shoot horizontally or vertically using its rotatable screen. DJI says it switches orientation according to screen position by default, and the settings also let you choose Landscape, Portrait, or Auto-Rotation. Confirm the screen is vertical before starting a vertical take: once recording begins, the horizontal or vertical shooting mode is locked. See the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 FAQ for that behavior.

Choose the color profile for your editing workflow
For footage you want to edit with minimal color work, Standard is the conservative choice. DJI advertises 10-bit D-Log M and HLG for the Pocket 3, but those profiles make sense when you intend to grade the footage and know how to work with them in post. This is workflow guidance rather than a claim that one profile will look better in every scene.
Exposure, stabilization, and audio
Exposure and white balance
Pro mode provides manual exposure and white balance, along with controls for color and focus. Manual shutter and ISO can help when the lighting is stable and you can monitor the image. As optional filmmaking guidance, some creators set shutter speed near twice the frame rate—for example, around 1/60 second at 30fps—but DJI does not specify this as a Pocket 3 requirement. Low light and flickering lights may call for different settings.

Gimbal movement
The Pocket 3 uses three-axis mechanical stabilization. DJI’s FAQ explains how to adjust gimbal rotational speed in the control center. A slower response can suit gentle movement; faster follow behavior may be useful for quick action. There is no single best speed for every scene. DJI’s user manual also warns that Sport Mode maximizes follow speed while image stabilization might be compromised.

Voice and directional audio
The camera has three microphones and directional audio options. It pairs directly with DJI Mic 2 and Mic Mini; the original DJI Mic requires its receiver. If clear speech is important, consider an external microphone and check wind-noise reduction and audio direction for the scene. A microphone choice affects sound capture, not video resolution or frame rate.

Before you film
- Set Portrait or Auto-Rotation and confirm the screen is vertical.
- Select Normal Video, then choose the portrait resolution and frame rate for the scene.
- Choose Standard for a simple edit, or D-Log M or HLG if you plan to grade.
- Check exposure and white balance; watch for clipped highlights and flickering lights.
- Confirm focus, wind-noise reduction, and audio direction.
- Check the microSD card and remaining capacity. DJI specifies that the camera has no built-in storage.
- Record and review a short test clip for framing, focus, motion, and voice audio.
- In your editor, choose an export preset or platform guidance that is current for the service where you plan to post.
What capture settings do—and do not—control
Resolution, frame rate, orientation, color profile, and camera exposure determine what the Pocket 3 records. Your editing app controls the exported file you upload. DJI’s manual lists MP4 recording in H.264 or HEVC and a maximum video bitrate of 130 Mbps; that camera specification is not a recommended upload bitrate for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. Check each service’s current guidance separately rather than assuming the camera’s maximum is the right export setting.
