What makes a good ASA dino mod in 2026?
Creature mods for ARK: Survival Ascended fall into three practical groups. A focused creature pack changes a few species while leaving the rest of the game recognizable. A total overhaul changes progression, abilities, balance and often bosses. Quality-of-life (QoL) tools do not primarily add species; they make finding, evaluating, taming or storing dinosaurs less tedious.

Those same descriptions say that tamed Shinies receive boosted stats. Treat that as a balance consideration, not merely a cosmetic bonus: a server using the mod should decide whether enhanced creatures fit its breeding and boss rules. Because the exact variant pool and stat treatment can change, inspect the current CurseForge listing before adding it to an established save.
Who should install it?
- Explorers who want rare-looking targets on every map.
- Collectors who enjoy colour and ability variation more than a new tech tree.
- Servers that want a noticeable creature refresh without replacing vanilla dinosaurs.
2. Paleo ARK Evolution Pack 1: Apex Predators
Paleo ARK: Evolution Pack 1, Apex Predators (mod 970540) reworks the Rex and Giganotosaurus rather than simply placing another recolour in the world. Two separate guides identify it as the most popular Paleo pack, but no current download or popularity statistics are published, so that description should be read as editorial opinion rather than a measured ranking.
A practical advantage is the reported automatic conversion of existing saddles. Before updating a live server, make a backup and test the conversion with expendable equipment; a conversion claim from a guide is not a substitute for checking the current release notes. This pack suits players who still want a familiar apex-predator role, but with creatures that feel deliberately redesigned.
3. Paleo ARK Evolution Pack 3: Hard Hitting Herbivores
Paleo ARK: Evolution Pack 3, Hard Hitting Herbivores (mod 1382641) adds the EVO Therizinosaurus and EVO Brontosaurus. It is the natural companion to Pack 1 for a server that wants both carnivore and herbivore upgrades, although each pack can be evaluated independently.

The Therizinosaurus timing issue
A 2026 guide noted that Wildcard’s own Therizinosaurus update was scheduled for September 30, 2026. That date had passed by October 14, 2026, but no current official release confirmation was published. Check the official game update and the mod’s current notes before installing Pack 3; a new official creature revision could affect whether you prefer the EVO version, the vanilla version, or both.
4. Moro’s Indomitable Duo: two dedicated predator additions
Moro’s Indomitable Duo (mod 928824) adds the Moro Rex and Moro Raptor, each with its own model and animations. It is a narrower alternative to an overhaul: you gain two identifiable predators without changing every vanilla creature’s abilities or progression.
One guide says the pair spawns on every map. Map support can change between releases, so confirm that statement against the current mod page and your server’s map before promising the creatures to players. This is a good fit for a mostly vanilla cluster that wants a couple of headline additions.
5. ARK Additions: DLC-style creatures
ARK Additions is described as a creature collection designed to feel similar to official downloadable content. Examples named in the guides include the Deinosuchus and Acrocanthosaurus. The appeal is breadth and presentation: the creatures are intended to sit beside the existing roster rather than function as a single novelty variant.

No current official complete roster, spawn regions, or every map supported was published, so treat those details as release-specific. Confirm the current list before building a breeding plan or advertising a particular species on a cluster.
6. Pyria: Mythos Evolved: a fantasy-creature direction
Pyria: Mythos Evolved is presented as a successor to the original ARK’s Pyria, with phoenixes, krakens, chimeras and other mythical creatures. It is the most stylistically different choice in this list. Choose it when the server’s identity is fantasy survival rather than a close-to-vanilla dinosaur sandbox.
Mythical additions can change the perceived power curve even when the rest of the game is untouched. Check how the current release handles spawning, taming and breeding, and test it separately before combining it with a balance-sensitive overhaul.

Choose one full overhaul—not several
Server guides consistently advise selecting one overhaul. Overhauls commonly touch creature abilities, progression, bosses, loot or map assumptions; stacking two can produce conflicting stat changes, duplicate systems and an unpredictable difficulty curve. Pick the option that matches the server’s intended ruleset, then add only focused creature or QoL mods that explicitly support it.

Primal Chaos
Primal Chaos reworks vanilla creatures with new abilities and adds boss variants. It is the high-intensity choice for players who want familiar species to behave very differently. A server guide specifically warns that it is not balanced for serious clusters, so it is better suited to a casual or experimental server than to a tightly tuned competitive cluster.
Ark Supreme
Ark Supreme is described as the more balanced overhaul. Each vanilla dinosaur receives a distinct, hand-tuned ability set, giving the roster more identity without the same emphasis on uncontrolled escalation. “More balanced” is a comparative guide assessment, not a guarantee for every map or mod combination; test it with your server’s rates and boss settings.
Astraeos Ascended
Astraeos Ascended supplies an entirely new map together with dinosaur additions tuned for that map. It makes the most sense when you are starting a dedicated world around that ecosystem. Adding it to a cluster built around unrelated maps may undermine the intended progression and encounter design.
Quality-of-life mods that improve a creature-focused server
Dino Storage V2
Dino Storage V2 is described as a server-performance tool because stored dinosaurs are not actively simulated. A guide recommends it for every server. It is especially useful when a tribe owns large breeding lines or when an established base contains more tames than the server needs to process continuously. Confirm how the current release handles inventories, imprinting and retrieval before moving valuable creatures.
Dino Depot
Dino Depot (mod 942024) is a modern cryopod alternative. It stores creatures in Dinoballs and provides full stat tooltips, making it easier to identify a breeding candidate without repeatedly deploying it. Compare its storage and retrieval rules with the system already used on your server; do not migrate an entire collection until you have tested the workflow and backups.
Awesome SpyGlass
Awesome SpyGlass is described as close to essential on a serious server because it exposes creature statistics before taming. That information reduces wasted traps and food on poor rolls and helps breeders identify desirable wild levels. Server administrators should decide whether displaying extensive information fits their intended difficulty.
Kraken’s Better Dinos
Kraken’s Better Dinos makes vanilla dinosaurs smarter and more useful without changing balance substantially, according to the guide. It is the conservative QoL choice for a server that wants improved creature behavior while keeping the existing roster and power curve recognizable.

ASA does not use the Steam Workshop for its mod distribution. CurseForge listings in 2026 identify CurseForge as the source, and clients normally download the mods required by a server when they connect instead of subscribing manually.
For an ARK: Survival Ascended server, Godlike.Host provides a game panel with a built-in mod installer and updater, plus up to three free backups a day with restore.
- Choose the scope. Decide whether you need a focused pack, one overhaul, or a QoL tool. Do not begin by adding several overhauls.
- Find the exact CurseForge listing. Search by the mod name and confirm the mod ID where one is provided: Shiny! Dinos Ascended 928548, Paleo Pack 1 970540, Paleo Pack 3 1382641, Moro’s Indomitable Duo 928824, or Dino Depot 942024.
- Check release compatibility. Read the current game-version, map and dependency notes. Some recommendations come from older or undated guides, so a listicle’s recommendation alone is not a compatibility guarantee.
- Back up the server and save. Preserve the world, configuration and creature data before adding, removing or updating a mod. For a live cluster, test on a copy first.
- Add the mod through the server host’s CurseForge-supported control panel or configuration. Use the exact mod entry supplied by the host; do not substitute a similarly named project.
- Start a controlled test. Verify spawning, taming, saddle conversion, storage and stat display with disposable creatures before opening the server to players.
- Publish the final mod list to players. When clients connect, they should receive the server’s required downloads automatically. A player who cannot join should first restart the game and launcher, then compare the server’s list and versions with the host’s current configuration.
Compatibility, balance and troubleshooting checklist
- Server and clients disagree: ensure the server is running the same current mod entries that the client is being asked to download. Remove obsolete duplicate entries and reconnect.
- Two systems alter the same creature: isolate the mods and re-add them one at a time. This is particularly important when combining a Paleo pack, a creature-behavior mod and an overhaul.
- Creatures or saddles behave unexpectedly after an update: restore the backup, read the current release notes and test conversion on a copy before retrying.
- Difficulty escalates too far: review the overhaul choice first. Primal Chaos is specifically flagged by one guide as unsuitable for serious clusters; replacing it with a more controlled option may be safer than endlessly changing rates.
- Performance declines: check how many active tames are loaded and consider storage tools such as Dino Storage V2. Storage can reduce active simulation, but test retrieval and data preservation before a full migration.
- A recommended creature is missing: verify the map and current spawn rules. Claims such as Moro’s pair spawning on every map are guide descriptions and should be confirmed for your release.

For most 2026 ASA servers, start with one focused creature choice: Shiny! Dinos Ascended for variant hunting, Paleo Pack 1 or 3 for a targeted redesign, Moro’s Indomitable Duo for two new predators, ARK Additions for a broader DLC-style roster, or Pyria for mythical creatures. If you want a fundamentally different game, replace that focused choice with exactly one overhaul. Add Dino Storage V2, Dino Depot, Awesome SpyGlass or Kraken’s Better Dinos only after confirming that each tool fits the selected creature system.
CurseForge is the distribution path, not Steam Workshop. Check the current version and map notes, back up the save, test on a copy, and make sure the server and connecting clients resolve the same mod list. Those checks matter more than any static “top mods” ranking because ASA mod compatibility changes with game and mod updates.
