For the most forgiving Adam Smasher fight, use a Body/Tech Solo built around Gorilla Arms, blunt weapons and a hard-hitting shotgun such as Guts. If you prefer to stay at range, an Intelligence Netrunner using queued quickhacks, Overclock, Monowire finishers and smart weapons is a credible alternative after Update 2.1. There is no officially proven universal best build, so choose by the combat loop you can execute consistently: close-range armor and healing, or distance, control and RAM management.
Use the post-2.0 rules before changing your build
Adam Smasher is a different test from the one described in pre-2.0 guides. Update 2.0 launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 21, 2023, overhauling perks, combat, cyberware, weapons and boss fights. CD PROJEKT RED specifically rebalanced the base game’s main boss fights and introduced armor penetration for those bosses. A guide written for the original perk trees or clothing-armor system can therefore point you toward bonuses that no longer work as described.

Update 2.1, released December 4, 2023, improved Adam Smasher’s fight again and gave him the ability to activate Sandevistan. That change matters to both recommended builds: a close-range character must be ready for sudden pressure, while a ranged character must preserve spacing and a resource loop instead of assuming the boss will remain stationary.
The later 2.x notes document support for Mac and Nintendo Switch 2 in Update 2.3, Patch 2.31 support across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Mac and Switch 2, and a PlayStation 5 Pro update on April 8, 2026. The perk and cyberware advice below is written for the post-2.0 ruleset; check that your installed patch uses the same names and effects before respecing.

Which build is best for Adam Smasher?
The safest general recommendation is a Body/Tech Solo. It combines close-range damage with armor, healing and forgiving execution windows. Gorilla Arms and blunt weapons give the Body side a clear purpose, while Tech perks and cyberware let you survive mistakes that would end a lighter build. Rebecca’s Guts shotgun supplies a powerful burst option for players willing to fight at close range.
An Intelligence Netrunner is the best alternative for players who would rather control the encounter from distance. The Hack-&-Slash route builds RAM regeneration, queues several quickhacks, enters Overclock when a decisive burst is available, and uses Monowire finishers and smart weapons to keep health and RAM moving. It is viable after 2.1, but it asks more of you: you must manage RAM, health, positioning and line-of-fire instead of relying on armor alone.
No cited official source establishes a universal damage-per-second winner, a win-rate statistic or an objectively best Adam Smasher setup. Compare the two archetypes by range, survivability, resource management, mobility and weapon access.
| Build | Preferred range | Defensive model | Resource loop | Signature equipment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Body/Tech Solo | Close to medium | Armor, healing and high tolerance for mistakes | Stamina, health and cyberware capacity | Gorilla Arms, blunt weapons and Guts |
| Intelligence Netrunner | Medium to long | Overshield, spacing and control | RAM, health and Overclock timing | Militech Paraline, Monowire and smart SMGs |
Build 1: Body/Tech Solo for the most forgiving fight
Attribute and perk direction
The official Savage Slugger Solo template splits early points between Body and Tech. Prioritize Tech’s License to Chrome, then develop Body toward Savage Sling. This order gives you a durable cyberware foundation before committing fully to the Solo’s blunt-weapon finishers and close-range execution.
Keep the build coherent rather than scattering points across every weapon category. Your damage plan is blunt weapons and shotguns; your defensive plan is armor, healing and cyberware capacity. If your current character already has unrelated perks, respec toward those two jobs before the final mission instead of trying to turn every weapon into a secondary specialty.

Weapons
- Gorilla Arms: available from every ripperdoc and explicitly highlighted as a strong blunt-weapon option. They make Body investment useful even when you are not carrying a conventional hammer.
- Rebecca’s Guts: the Solo guide’s standout shotgun pick, found in Corpo Plaza. Use it when you can commit to close-range burst and have enough survivability to stay inside effective range.
- Finger’s Cane: an official blunt-weapon example associated with Wrecking Ball and Quake.
- Sasquatch Hammer: another Wrecking Ball and Quake example. Swap it out if its movement penalty makes it harder to maintain spacing or reposition when Smasher activates Sandevistan.
Carry a combination that matches your stamina and movement comfort. A hammer can deliver the intended perk synergy, but a weapon that slows you enough to miss healing or escape windows is a poor practical choice. Gorilla Arms let you retain the blunt-weapon identity without accepting every weapon’s handling drawback.
Cyberware package
Update 2.0 moved nearly all armor value away from clothing and into cyberware. Treat armor, capacity, healing and mobility as one package rather than shopping for a single “best” implant. The Savage Slugger recommendations begin with Bionic Joints, then add Dense Marrow, Universal Booster, Scar Coalescer or Para Bellum, and Cellular Adapter as the character develops.
- Bionic Joints: an early defensive foundation for the tank plan.
- Dense Marrow: supports the close-range Body approach once you can afford the associated capacity and trade-offs.
- Universal Booster: part of the recommended sustain package.
- Scar Coalescer or Para Bellum: later defensive choices; select the option that fits your available capacity and the rest of your installed cyberware.
- Cellular Adapter: adds to the package of armor and survivability rather than functioning as a standalone answer.
- Fortified Ankles: improve vertical movement and contribute armor, useful when you need to break a line or take a higher position.
Do not fill every slot with damage at the expense of healing or capacity. The Solo’s advantage is that a missed swing or delayed reload is recoverable; that advantage disappears if your cyberware budget leaves you without sustain.
How to play the Solo against Smasher
- Enter with a full cyberware loadout. Confirm every slot, capacity upgrade and healing option before starting the final sequence.
- Open at a range where your weapon is reliable. Use Guts for a committed shotgun burst, or Gorilla Arms and a blunt weapon when you can safely close.
- Spend stamina deliberately. Keep enough movement for a retreat or vertical reposition rather than exhausting yourself on every attack.
- Use armor and healing to absorb errors, not to ignore positioning. Sandevistan activation means you should still leave yourself a route out.
- Switch blunt weapons if handling becomes the problem. The perk synergy is useful only while you can connect attacks and move when required.
Build 2: Intelligence Netrunner for ranged control
Attribute and perk direction
The official Hack-&-Slash Netrunner guide puts its emphasis on Intelligence. Build toward Optimization for RAM regeneration, then Hack Queue and Data Recycler. Continue into Overclock, Power Surge and Sublimation. This sequence creates a loop in which your cyberdeck can sustain repeated quickhack pressure instead of spending all RAM on one opening attack.
Add Body’s Adrenaline Rush for an overshield. The Netrunner route is not defenseless; Adrenaline Rush buys time while your queue resolves and helps you survive a mistake that would otherwise interrupt the fight. Add Monowire finishers and Siphon so close contact can restore HP and RAM rather than ending the run immediately.

Reflexes perks such as Sharpshooter, Practice Makes Perfect and Shoot to Chill support the smart-SMG side of the build. The guide reports that Shoot to Chill received an Update 2.1 upgrade granting up to 28% armor penetration. That is a published maximum for the perk, not a guarantee that every shot receives the same effective result in every situation.

Weapons and cyberdeck
- Militech Paraline: described in the Netrunner guide as a flexible, lower-capacity cyberdeck that supports both Monowire and smart weapons.
- Monowire: supplies finishers and gives the Intelligence build a way to recover HP and RAM through Siphon when an enemy reaches you.
- Smart SMGs with Shoot to Chill: provide a ranged weapon loop that complements queued quickhacks and the perk’s stated armor-penetration upgrade.
The Netrunner does not need to become a melee character just because Monowire is equipped. Use it as a finisher and sustain tool, then return to distance. If you dislike switching between quickhacks and smart weapons, the Body/Tech Solo will feel simpler even if the Netrunner’s theoretical control is attractive.
How to play the Netrunner against Smasher
- Regenerate before committing. Optimization and your cyberdeck’s RAM loop should leave enough capacity for a queue plus a follow-up, not just one expensive hack.
- Queue hacks, then use your smart SMG. Hack Queue lets control and damage overlap while Shoot to Chill supplies the ranged weapon pressure.
- Trigger Overclock for a planned burst. Combine it with Power Surge and Sublimation when you need to convert stored RAM and health into a decisive sequence.
- Use Adrenaline Rush as a buffer. The overshield is there to preserve your loop while you reposition, not as permission to stand in every attack.
- Finish with Monowire and Siphon when necessary. The finisher restores HP/RAM value and lets you re-establish distance instead of abandoning the build’s identity.
Weapons to bring to the fight
| Weapon or tool | Build fit | Reason to use it | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gorilla Arms | Body/Tech Solo | Strong blunt-weapon synergy and available from every ripperdoc | Requires close-range commitment |
| Rebecca’s Guts | Body/Tech Solo | Official Solo pick for powerful close-range shotgun damage | Needs reliable positioning and survivability |
| Finger’s Cane | Body/Tech Solo | Blunt weapon tied to Wrecking Ball and Quake examples | Handling must suit your movement plan |
| Sasquatch Hammer | Body/Tech Solo | Blunt weapon with the same perk context | Its movement penalty may be uncomfortable |
| Smart SMG with Shoot to Chill | Intelligence Netrunner | Ranged pressure and an Update 2.1 armor-penetration upgrade of up to 28% | The 28% figure is a published maximum, not a universal per-shot result |
| Monowire | Intelligence Netrunner | Finisher and Siphon tool for HP/RAM sustain | Requires brief close contact |
Upgrade the weapons you actually plan to use before entering the final fight. A high-quality weapon with perks that match your attributes is more useful than carrying several uncommitted categories. The available evidence does not provide a universal damage ranking for these options.
Cyberware, armor and capacity priorities
Clothing is no longer the primary armor decision in the post-2.0 game. Your cyberware capacity determines how much armor, healing, RAM regeneration and mobility you can install together. Compare a proposed loadout as a package:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Armor: the Solo needs enough to make close-range mistakes survivable; the Netrunner still benefits from armor because Sandevistan can collapse distance.
- Healing: the Solo uses it to stay in the pocket; the Netrunner uses it to protect Overclock and Siphon cycles.
- Cyberware capacity: do not exceed what your character can support merely to equip one attractive implant.
- Mobility: Fortified Ankles and practical movement options matter when the boss changes tempo.
- RAM regeneration: essential to the Intelligence route and less relevant to a pure Solo.
- Edgerunner and capacity choices: weigh their benefits against the survivability you give up elsewhere instead of treating a capacity-expanding perk as an automatic upgrade.
The right question is not “Which implant has the highest listed armor?” It is “Can this complete set let me attack, heal and reposition through the entire encounter?”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Preparation checklist before the final encounter
- Confirm the game version. Use post-2.0 perk and cyberware descriptions, and account for Update 2.1’s Sandevistan behavior.
- Remove outdated mods. Pre-2.0 mods can interfere with the overhauled systems; update them or uninstall them before diagnosing unexpected effects.
- Respec toward one loop. Choose Body/Tech close-range execution or Intelligence ranged control rather than splitting points across incompatible plans.
- Install the complete cyberware package. Check armor, capacity, healing, mobility and, for Netrunners, RAM regeneration together.
- Upgrade your chosen weapons. Bring Guts, Gorilla Arms and a suitable blunt weapon for the Solo, or a smart SMG, Monowire and Militech Paraline for the Netrunner.
- Stock healing and verify your controls. The fight can punish a missing shortcut more severely than a slightly lower damage perk.
- Choose your range plan. Decide whether you will stay close and trade through armor, or maintain distance and spend RAM deliberately.
- Leave room to reposition. Smasher can activate Sandevistan after Update 2.1, so do not start with exhausted stamina, an empty RAM pool or a blocked escape route.
Choosing a build for Very Hard
Very Hard makes consistency more valuable than a paper damage ceiling. The Body/Tech Solo is the easiest recommendation when you are learning the encounter because armor, healing and blunt-weapon execution tolerate imperfect timing. Gorilla Arms remove some of the handling friction associated with heavy blunt weapons, while Guts gives you a clear burst tool.
The Netrunner can be equally effective for a player who already manages queues and Overclock comfortably. Its advantage is control and distance, not immunity. If you routinely run out of RAM, trigger Overclock without a follow-up, or let Smasher close before Adrenaline Rush is available, the theoretical ranged safety disappears. In that case, respec toward the Solo or simplify the Netrunner loadout until the resource loop is reliable.

Respec to Body/Tech when
- You prefer shotguns, blunt weapons or Gorilla Arms.
- You are losing because a single mistake ends the encounter.
- You want armor, healing and a simpler resource loop.
- You dislike pausing to manage quickhack queues and RAM.
Respec to Intelligence when
- You naturally maintain distance and can track several queued effects.
- You enjoy planning an Overclock burst instead of trading hits.
- You want Monowire finishers and Siphon to connect health and RAM recovery.
- You are comfortable using smart SMGs with Shoot to Chill and accepting brief close contact when a finisher is available.
Respec only after checking your cyberware capacity. A perk change without the implants, weapon tiers and healing options that support it creates an incomplete build and can feel weaker than the original setup.
Common mistakes and fixes
Following a pre-2.0 clothing-armor guide
Symptom: your outfit appears well equipped, but incoming damage remains overwhelming. Fix: move the defensive plan into cyberware and review capacity, armor and healing as a package.
Ignoring Sandevistan activation
Symptom: a previously safe distance suddenly disappears. Fix: reserve stamina, RAM or a healing charge for repositioning and avoid starting a sequence with no escape option.
Using every weapon category at once
Symptom: several weapons are upgraded, but none benefits fully from your attributes. Fix: choose the Solo’s blunt-and-shotgun plan or the Netrunner’s smart-SMG-and-Monowire plan.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Building damage without sustain
Symptom: the opening burst is strong, but the fight collapses after one failed attack. Fix: restore the appropriate loop: armor and healing for the Solo, or RAM regeneration, Adrenaline Rush, Siphon and Overclock timing for the Netrunner.
Assuming the 28% Shoot to Chill number applies everywhere
Symptom: smart-SMG damage is lower than an article’s headline figure. Fix: treat 28% as the published maximum armor-penetration upgrade for Shoot to Chill, not as a guaranteed result for every shot or situation.
Final recommendation
Choose the Body/Tech Solo if you want the most forgiving Adam Smasher plan: prioritize License to Chrome, build toward Savage Sling, install the defensive cyberware package, and use Gorilla Arms, a blunt weapon and Guts. Choose the Intelligence Netrunner if you prefer a ranged, control-oriented fight: build Optimization, Hack Queue, Data Recycler, Overclock, Power Surge and Sublimation, then combine Adrenaline Rush, Monowire, Siphon, Militech Paraline and a smart SMG using Shoot to Chill. Both routes are compatible with the post-2.0 systems; the better one is the loop you can maintain after Update 2.1 gives Smasher Sandevistan.
