There is no evidence-based universal “best” Core Keeper mod in 2026. The right choice depends on whether you want easier storage, less repetitive farming, more exploration content, clearer combat information, or a lighter balance adjustment. Start with the official mod.io catalog or Steam Workshop, then check each listing’s supported game version, client/server scope, dependencies and update date before installing.

For a practical shortlist, begin with Expanded Chest UI or Double Chest Inventory for storage, AutoPlant2 or Auto Replant for farming, Scenes+ for additional exploration content, MiniBalance for modest balance and quality-of-life changes, and Boss Health Bar, Enemy Health Bars or Improved Buff List for combat information. Treat those as use-case options rather than a ranking: no authoritative survey or review panel establishes one mod as best for every world and player.

Where to find Core Keeper mods in 2026

Use the two discovery surfaces that currently document Core Keeper mod distribution:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • mod.io: mod.io describes its catalog as mods created by the Core Keeper community using the official Mod SDK. Its Core Keeper catalog is the clearest place to inspect descriptions, supported versions, scope labels and update information.
  • Steam Workshop: Steam provides a browse-and-subscribe surface for Core Keeper mods and maps. The official installation guidance says to subscribe to a Workshop item and then restart the game.

Platform activity is useful context, not a quality score. A 2026 mod.io collections snapshot showed 110 collections, while a Steam browse snapshot showed 249 matching Workshop collection entries. The mod.io Core Keeper index displayed 169K total downloads in that snapshot. Those figures change over time, include different kinds of content and do not prove that one item is safer, more compatible or better designed than another.

Core Keeper’s modding tools and Steam Workshop integration are still described as being in beta by the Core Keeping Modding Guide. That status explains why installation behavior and metadata can change between game updates. Older tutorials built around Thunderstore or BepInEx should be treated as legacy material unless the mod author has confirmed that the instructions still apply to the current official path.

Best Core Keeper mods by player goal

The table below uses the descriptions and labels shown on the relevant platform listings. The trade-off column is a decision prompt, not a claim that one option is objectively superior.

Goal Mod or group What the listing provides Decision to make before installing
Small balance and quality-of-life changes MiniBalance Adjustments to weapons, gear and food, described as “Some balance and QoL.” Decide whether the changes fit the progression of an existing world or are better suited to a new playthrough.
More exploration content Scenes+ More than 100 new scenes according to its mod.io description. Accept the added world and save complexity, and check how actively the author maintains it.
More manageable chest interfaces Expanded Chest UI A more expandable, scrollable chest interface replacing the default chest UI. Confirm that every player who needs the interface can use the same compatible version.
More storage capacity Double Chest Inventory Doubles inventory space in all chests, including modded chests. Balance convenience against the larger change to item-storage limits and progression.
Farming automation AutoPlant2 Listed as server-side. Make sure the server running the world supports it and that its scope matches your multiplayer setup.
Replanting harvested crops Auto Replant Replants crops using a seed from the player’s inventory and exposes a configurable golden-crop chance. Choose the automation level you want and verify whether the listing requires a client, server or both.
Boss and enemy readability Boss Health Bar and Enemy Health Bars Health-bar overlays shown in Steam Workshop visual/UI results. Check whether the extra information improves decision-making or makes the screen too busy.
Buff information Improved Buff List A visual/UI change to the way active buffs are presented. Confirm that the display remains readable at your resolution and is compatible with the rest of your UI set.

Storage: pick an interface change or a capacity change

Expanded Chest UI

Choose Expanded Chest UI when the problem is finding and navigating items rather than having too few slots. Its listing describes an expandable, scrollable replacement for the default chest interface. That makes it a convenience-oriented choice: the goal is a more usable view of storage, not a blanket increase in the amount of storage the world permits.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before adding it to a multiplayer world, check the listing’s client/server designation and supported game version. A UI replacement can be useful only to the player who has it, but the platform metadata—not the name alone—determines whether additional installations are required.

Double Chest Inventory

Choose Double Chest Inventory when capacity itself is the bottleneck. The mod.io description says it doubles inventory space in all chests, including modded chests. That is a much stronger intervention in inventory balance than a new interface, so consider it carefully if you are already partway through a progression-focused save.

Do not assume that “all chests” means every future storage implementation will behave identically after a game update. Read the current listing, note the supported version, and test a copy of an existing world before committing to a permanent setup.

How to decide between them

  • Use Expanded Chest UI if you want better navigation while preserving the world’s existing storage limits.
  • Use Double Chest Inventory if you deliberately want twice the listed chest capacity and accept the resulting balance change.
  • Do not install both merely because they address storage. Check whether their descriptions indicate compatibility and whether the combined interface and capacity changes match your intended rules.

Farming: compare server automation with replanting assistance

AutoPlant2

AutoPlant2 is labeled server-side in the mod.io catalog. That label matters more than the mod’s name: the component that controls the world must be able to load it. For a dedicated server, place it in the server’s approved mod set and verify the listing’s current installation notes before players connect.

Metaverse Keeper – Nintendo Switch
  • Five unique heroes, each with their own special skills, have been called upon by the mysterious government of the Metaverse.
  • Long ago, a great cataclysm shook reality and created the Metaverse and its Bastion – a vast and mysterious ship drifting across space-time. Our heroes will board the Bastion with one goal in mind: uncover the secrets behind the cataclysm, stop the Boss, and bring balance back to the Metaverse.
  • Harness the power of space-time abilities - death becomes a minor setback as our heroes will return again and again until this great evil is defeated. But death has a cost; the chaotic nature of the Metaverse will change the very Bastion itself, and no two attempts will ever be the same.
  • With so many weapons, enemies and environments to discover, the quest to save the Metaverse is better than ever on Nintendo Switch!
  • In-game languages include English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese.

Because the listing identifies it as server-side, do not promise that installing a copy only on one client will make the feature available to everyone. Confirm the exact scope shown for the current game version.

Auto Replant

Auto Replant targets a narrower task. Its listing says it replants harvested crops by consuming a seed from the player’s inventory, and it exposes a configurable chance for a golden crop. The seed requirement preserves a resource check while removing repetitive replanting clicks; the golden-crop setting lets a host decide how generous the automation should be.

Check whether the configuration is stored per player, per server or in another way described by the author. The listing establishes the feature and the configurable chance, but it does not establish one universal default or a single multiplayer requirement for every release.

Farming selection checklist

  • Record the listing’s supported Core Keeper version.
  • Record whether the mod is marked client-side, server-side or both.
  • Read the dependency field; if no dependency is listed, treat that as “not stated,” not as proof that none exists.
  • For an established world, decide whether automation changes the amount of time or resources you want farming to require.

Exploration: what Scenes+ changes

Scenes+ is the content-expansion choice in this shortlist. Its mod.io description says it adds over 100 new scenes. That is a substantial change in the amount of world content, so it belongs in a different category from a UI tweak or a small balance adjustment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use it when discovering additional environments is more important than keeping a minimal mod footprint. Before adding it to a long-running save, examine the listing’s supported version, update date and any notes about existing worlds. New scene content can increase the number of assets and interactions a save must accommodate; the available evidence does not establish a universal guarantee about migration between versions.

If you are deciding between content and convenience, install Scenes+ only after you have confirmed that your group wants a larger exploration surface. Removing a content mod from a world can be less reversible than removing a cosmetic interface change, so treat the save decision separately from the download decision.

Balance and progression: where MiniBalance fits

MiniBalance is aimed at players who want lighter changes than a full overhaul. The mod.io listing describes “Some balance and QoL in weapons, gear and food.” That wording indicates a mixed package: it can affect both how equipment performs and how food fits into progression.

Rank #3

  • UK PSN account may be required for any online features

Read the current description for the exact changes before adding it to an existing world. A balance mod can alter the value of items you already own, the strength of equipment you have crafted or the role of food in your routine. If your group has agreed on a particular progression pace, compare the described changes with those rules instead of treating “QoL” as automatically neutral.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

MiniBalance is therefore a good candidate for a deliberate, documented mod list, not an automatic first installation. Record its version and configuration so every player knows which rules the world is using.

Combat information and visual clarity

Boss Health Bar, Enemy Health Bars and Improved Buff List appear in Steam Workshop visual/UI results. They address information presentation rather than adding a new progression system.

Health bars

Boss Health Bar is the focused option when you want a clearer read on a boss encounter. Enemy Health Bars extends that idea to ordinary enemies. The useful distinction is scope: a boss-only display can preserve a cleaner screen during routine exploration, while enemy bars provide more information at the cost of more persistent visual elements.

Buff list

Improved Buff List is relevant when the challenge is identifying active effects rather than judging enemy health. Evaluate it at the resolution and UI scale you actually use. A list that is technically more informative can still be less useful if it obscures the play area or becomes difficult to scan.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Multiplayer considerations

Visual mods often appear client-oriented, but do not infer the scope from appearance. Check the listing’s client/server label and multiplayer notes. If only one player needs the display, other players may not need the same files; if the mod changes shared state or requires synchronized assets, the listing may require a broader installation.

How to evaluate any Core Keeper mod before installing

Use the following record for every candidate. It prevents a popular-looking item from being selected without checking the details that determine whether it will work in your world.

Rank #4
Core Keeper - Compatible for XSX / One - UK PAL
  • UK account may be required for any online features
Field What to record Why it matters
Supported game version The exact version range or release named by the listing. A mod can stop working after a game update even when its title and description remain visible.
Scope Client, server or both. This determines where the files must be installed and who needs them in multiplayer.
Dependencies Every dependency named by the author; if none is shown, write “not stated.” Missing dependencies are a common reason for a mod not loading as expected.
Last update The date displayed by the platform. Recency is a maintenance signal, not a guarantee of compatibility.
World impact UI-only, automation, balance, storage, or new content. Changes to progression and world content deserve more cautious testing than a local interface adjustment.
Reversibility Whether the description explains removal or existing-save behavior. A mod that changes world data may not be as easy to remove as a display-only mod.

Popularity and download totals can help you discover candidates, but they should remain secondary to these fields. The 169K figure shown for the mod.io Core Keeper index is catalog-level, time-sensitive metadata; it is not a verified download count for each shortlisted mod.

Install through the documented paths

Steam Workshop

  1. Open the Core Keeper Steam Workshop and locate the mod or map listing.
  2. Read the description, supported-version information, scope label and dependency notes.
  3. Select Subscribe on the Workshop item.
  4. Close and restart Core Keeper. The official installation guidance specifically instructs users to subscribe and restart.
  5. Confirm in the game that the expected feature is present before loading your primary world. If the mod provides settings, use the author’s current instructions rather than an older guide.

If the feature does not appear after the restart, first confirm that the subscription is active and that the item supports your game version. Then check whether the listing identifies a required server installation or dependency.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Manual mod.io installation

  1. Download the mod.io ZIP that matches your Core Keeper version.
  2. Read the listing for dependencies and scope before extracting anything.
  3. Extract the ZIP into the game’s CoreKeeper_DataStreamingAssetsModFolderName location, following the official manual-installation path.
  4. Keep the extracted folder structure intact unless the listing explicitly instructs otherwise.
  5. Restart the game and verify the mod in a test world or a backup copy of your main save.

The folder name in the documented path is represented as ModFolderName because each download supplies its own folder. Do not merge files from unrelated mods into one folder unless the author specifically directs you to do so.

Multiplayer and dedicated-server planning

Multiplayer compatibility is determined by scope, not by whether a mod appears in a popular collection. Before inviting players, write down the exact mod set, versions and dependencies used by the host or dedicated server.

For a hosted Core Keeper world, Godlike.Host’s Core Keeper servers provide a Pterodactyl-based game panel with SFTP/FTP access. Its free Core Keeper server card is 1–2 GB, uses one location, has limited panel features and must be extended every 3 hours.

Client-side or visual mods

A client-only visual or UI mod may be useful to one player without requiring every participant to install it. That is only a possibility, not a rule: verify the listing’s scope and multiplayer notes first. Health-bar and buff-display mods should be checked this way rather than assumed to be harmless local overlays.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Server-side and world-affecting mods

Server-side entries, such as the label shown for AutoPlant2, belong on the server that owns the world. Storage, farming automation, balance and new-scene content can affect shared play, so make the server’s mod set explicit and ensure connecting players use the versions required by the listing.

Best Value
Core Keeper - Compatible for PS5 - UK PAL
  • UK PSN account may be required for any online features

Dedicated-server checklist

  • Choose entries explicitly marked as compatible with the dedicated-server arrangement you use.
  • Install server-side files on the server rather than relying on a client subscription.
  • Document client requirements for every player before the session starts.
  • Test the mod set with a non-primary world or backup before making a long-running server dependent on it.
  • After a Core Keeper update, recheck every listing’s supported version and update date.

Safe testing, updates and rollback

Mods are easier to manage when you separate discovery from commitment. Use a staged process:

  1. Record the baseline. Note the game version, current mod list and the world you intend to use.
  2. Back up the save. Keep an untouched copy before adding content, balance or storage changes.
  3. Add one major change at a time. Installing several world-affecting mods together makes it difficult to identify which listing caused a problem.
  4. Test the intended feature. For storage, open several chest types; for farming, harvest and replant a crop; for UI mods, inspect the display during ordinary play and a combat encounter.
  5. Test multiplayer separately. A mod that loads for a solo client may still require a server installation or matching files for a shared world.
  6. Recheck after updates. Beta tooling and game updates can change compatibility, so repeat the version and dependency review before updating a live world.

Common failure symptoms

  • Nothing changes after subscribing: restart the game, verify the subscription and confirm that the listing supports the installed game version.
  • The game loads but the feature is missing: check dependencies, folder structure and whether the mod is server-side.
  • Only some players see the feature: compare the listing’s client/server designation with each installation.
  • A world behaves differently after removal: restore the backup rather than assuming that uninstalling reverses every world or progression change.
  • An old tutorial conflicts with current instructions: prioritize the current official mod.io or Steam Workshop path and the author’s up-to-date listing; treat older Thunderstore/BepInEx directions as legacy until confirmed.

A practical 2026 mod loadout by play style

Convenience-focused solo world

Start with one storage option and, if desired, Auto Replant. Expanded Chest UI preserves storage limits while improving navigation; Double Chest Inventory is the more permissive alternative. Add a health or buff display only if the default information is genuinely difficult to read.

Group world with a dedicated server

Prioritize listings with clear server compatibility and document the required set before players join. AutoPlant2 is explicitly labeled server-side, while every UI candidate still needs a scope check. Avoid mixing several progression-changing mods until the group has agreed on the resulting rules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Exploration-first playthrough

Scenes+ is the obvious content choice because its listing advertises over 100 new scenes. Install it before the world becomes a long-term commitment, keep a backup and monitor its update notes as the game changes.

Light-touch progression changes

MiniBalance is designed for players who want some balance and quality-of-life changes rather than a complete conversion. Read the exact weapon, gear and food adjustments and decide whether they fit a new world or an existing one.

Information-heavy combat setup

Choose Boss Health Bar for boss-focused feedback, Enemy Health Bars for broader enemy information, or Improved Buff List when active-effect visibility is the main issue. Add only the displays that solve a real readability problem so the interface does not become unnecessarily crowded.

What “best” means for Core Keeper mods

A mod is a strong choice when its feature matches your goal, its supported version matches your game, its client/server scope matches your setup and its impact is acceptable for the save you want to protect. The current ecosystem does not provide a reliable universal ranking. Platform counts, collections and downloads help with discovery, but they are snapshots rather than independent quality assessments.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For most players, the safest starting point is a single, reversible convenience mod followed by a short test. Add storage capacity, automation, balance changes or new scenes only after deciding how those changes affect progression and multiplayer. Keep the official installation path in mind, maintain a documented mod list and recheck compatibility whenever Core Keeper updates.
