For a strong all-round cordless vacuum, the Dyson V15 Detect is the clearest pick among the current reviews cited here. RTINGS named it best cordless vacuum in its guide updated September 21, 2026, and Vacuum Wars also lists it as best overall. Those are two publishers’ test conclusions—not a universal ranking. The V15 pairs strong reported pickup across floors and pet hair with a wide runtime range, but it is not the lightest option, and its small bin can release dust when emptied.
The Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H is a mid-range alternative if you value a more robust-feeling build over lower weight and faster charging. To choose well, compare floor pickup and usable runtime—not suction or maximum battery life alone.

How the leading cordless vacuums compare
RTINGS’ pickup scores and weight measurements below come from its own scoring and measurement system. Vacuum Wars’ suction figures use a different method, so they should not be treated as directly comparable to RTINGS scores.

Why the Dyson V15 Detect is the strongest all-round pick
The V15 has the broadest case in the published results here: RTINGS reports good pickup on bare floors and carpet and a 9.0 pet-hair score, while Vacuum Wars’ leaderboard gives it the top overall position. Vacuum Wars also reports 124-inch sealed suction and 17.6 kPa unsealed suction. These are Vacuum Wars measurements, not an industry-wide standard.
Its runtime needs context. RTINGS reports a range of 8–75 minutes, while Vacuum Wars lists 68 minutes as the official battery-life figure. Published maximum runtime generally reflects less demanding use, not continuous cleaning at the highest suction setting. Mode, floorhead or attachment, and test method all affect runtime; the cited figures do not establish one expected runtime for every home.
The V15’s 6.46 lb weight falls in RTINGS’ 5–7 lb “average” category. That whole-vacuum figure does not tell you exactly how tiring handheld or above-floor cleaning will feel. RTINGS also flags its small dirt compartment and dust escaping during bin emptying; emptying it outdoors is preferable if dust is a concern.

When the Shark Stratos makes more sense
The Stratos is a reasonable mid-range alternative if you prefer its more robust-feeling construction, a judgment RTINGS makes about feel rather than a measured durability result. Its bare-floor pickup score matches the V15’s at 8.0, but its carpet and pet-hair scores are lower in RTINGS’ results.
The trade-off is substantial for routine use: at 8.73 lb, it is in RTINGS’ heavy category, and RTINGS reports nearly four hours to recharge. Its 12–63-minute battery-life range is not directly comparable to the V15’s range as a guarantee of cleaning time, and RTINGS notes weaker performance on thick-pile rugs.
What the Gen5 Detect’s test results do—and do not—show
Vacuum Wars selected the Dyson Gen5 Detect as its best-performance cordless vacuum for 2025 based on its own tests. It measured 69 CFM of airflow at the wand, compared with its 42 CFM cordless average, and 17.36 kPa unsealed suction. In that same publisher’s tests, the Gen5 scored 40/40 on carpet deep cleaning and 15/15 on filtration.

Vacuum Wars also reports a battery-efficiency score of 27.3 against its cordless average of 18.8, calculated with its CFM-per-minute approach. These numbers describe Vacuum Wars’ particular tests and scoring, not a standard shared with other reviewers. The 2025 award also does not establish the Gen5 as the best current choice for every buyer or budget.
How to read suction and cleaning-test results
Separate suction from pickup
A suction reading does not show how well a vacuum collects debris from every surface. Airflow and suction are useful measurements, but floorhead design and surface also matter. Look for separate pickup results on hard floors, low- or high-pile carpet, crevices, and pet hair rather than selecting a vacuum from one suction figure.
Match the head to the floor
RTINGS says soft rollers suit bare floors, while bristles work better on carpet and pet hair. If a home combines hard flooring and rugs, consider whether the model’s included head or available attachments can handle both; a strong score on one surface does not guarantee equally good results on another.

Keep each publisher’s scores in its own context
RTINGS’ pickup and particle-filtration scores and Vacuum Wars’ airflow, suction, and test scores use different methods. Compare products within the same publisher’s results where possible. A filtration score is a test result, not a medical guarantee about indoor air or allergy relief.

Runtime depends on how you clean
Check whether a review gives low-power and high-power runtime, the attachment used, and the test conditions. A quoted maximum is useful for understanding an upper bound, but it should not be treated as time available at maximum suction. RTINGS says 60 or more minutes of maximum runtime measured on low power can suit apartments and small homes; that is RTINGS’ guidance, not a universal home-size rule.
Weight affects more than carrying the vacuum
RTINGS classifies vacuums under 5 lb as lightweight, 5–7 lb as average, and 7 lb or more as heavy. These are RTINGS’ categories. For stairs, ceilings, or furniture, consider how the vacuum feels in handheld use as well as its total weight; a whole-vacuum measurement cannot capture every handling difference.

Account for emptying, filters, charging, and storage
- Bin: A small compartment means more frequent emptying; consider whether the bin design releases dust during disposal.
- Filtration: Compare particle-filtration results within one publisher’s scoring system. RTINGS says 8.0 or higher is a useful threshold in its system, not an industry-wide standard.
- Charging: Include recharge time in the decision if you clean frequently or need the vacuum ready again quickly. RTINGS reports nearly four hours for the Stratos.
- Ownership details: Check filter care, replacement-battery options, accessory compatibility, and storage dimensions for the exact model and market before buying. Those details are not established by the test figures above.
Check price, bundle, and regional model details before buying
Prices, stock, and included accessories change, so verify the current listing for your country and the exact model number. Dyson’s official cordless vacuum range is a starting point for identifying products, but the product page for the model and market you intend to buy is the place to confirm its specifications and bundle. No current price or bundle is established by the test results cited here.
