Bandai Namco recommends Pilot for new or returning flyers and describes it as the balanced default challenge. The guide lists four choices:

The publisher says you can change difficulty at any time, so starting on Pilot does not lock you into it. Choose Rookie if collision assistance matters more to you than the balanced challenge.
Does a controller work on PC?
A TechRadar reviewer reported using a standard Xbox Wireless Controller successfully throughout a PC review of the game. Does Ace Combat 8 support HOTAS?
The official flight-control guide explains Standard and Expert modes but does not list HOTAS devices, per-device compatibility, button mappings, or sensitivity settings. PC Gamer reported launch-period complaints about a lack of HOTAS support, but that report is not a definitive current compatibility list. Before buying or configuring a stick, verify support for your exact HOTAS model and platform through current game and manufacturer information. The available sources do not establish that any particular model works, that all axes can be remapped, or that a specific mapping is ideal.
Are there recommended sensitivity or deadzone numbers?
No verified numerical sensitivity or deadzone values are established by the official guide or the other cited sources. Rather than inventing settings, start with the controls available in your game version and make small adjustments only if the game exposes them. If you use a HOTAS, confirm the device is recognized and that its axes and buttons behave as intended before relying on a custom layout.

Platforms and editions
Bandai Namco lists the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Its product guide says the Standard Edition is digital and may also be available on disc for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, depending on country and participating retailer.
