On PS5, start by reviewing the controls and tutorial reminders, then test the alternate controller preset or the basic remapping that the game provides. If vibration or adaptive-trigger resistance is uncomfortable, turn those effects off. Use the individual volume controls to reduce or mute distracting channels, and enable subtitles if you need text support—but PlayStation says subtitle coverage is limited to the main story and main characters.
No official source names a universally best button layout, exact remapped assignments, or sensitivity values. The guidance below therefore focuses on choosing settings for your own reach, sensory tolerance, and reading needs without pretending that an untested mapping is optimal.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a 2D action-exploration game starring Rose Belmont in Paris in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. The whip is both a weapon and a movement tool, while weapons, relics, and boss-derived Arcana abilities add more actions to remember. That combination makes comfortable access more important than copying a supposedly perfect layout.
| Need | Best first change | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Buttons feel awkward or hard to reach | Try the alternate preset, then use the available basic remapping | The PlayStation Store lists Controller Remapping (Basic); exact assignments are not published |
| Haptics are tiring or distracting | Disable controller vibration and adaptive-trigger effects | PlayStation says both can be omitted |
| Sound is overwhelming | Lower or mute individual audio volumes | The listing confirms separate volume controls but does not name every channel |
| You rely on captions | Enable Subtitles (Basic) | Captions cover the main story and main characters only |
| You need frequent reminders | Review controls and tutorials from the options menu | PlayStation says controls can be reviewed at any time |
| You need to stop during a scene | Pause when playing offline | The listing says pausing works during gameplay and cinematics in offline play |
Treat this as a starting point, not a tested winner. Konami’s public material describes what options exist, not how each one feels in play.

Why controller comfort matters in this game
The whip serves two jobs
KONAMI’s official game description says, “Crack your whip to move around freely like a trapeze artist!” That is promotional language, not a measured performance claim, but it explains the control problem: the same core tool supports traversal as well as attacks. A layout that is easy for ordinary strikes may still be awkward when you must hold a direction, aim a movement action, and react quickly.
More actions arrive as the adventure expands
The game also uses weapons, relics, and Arcana abilities earned from bosses. You do not need to redesign the controller before seeing how those systems are assigned. Instead, play the opening section with the default arrangement, note which inputs cause strain or accidental presses, and adjust only the troublesome actions.
There is no documented universal layout
The official PlayStation listing does not publish button-by-button recommendations, sensitivity settings, or a complete remapping matrix. Any article that names a definitive jump, whip, dash, or Arcana button is making a claim beyond the available official information. Use the alternate preset first because it is the quickest reversible experiment; move to basic remapping when one or two actions consistently fall outside your comfortable reach.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSet up the PS5 controller before starting
- Open the game’s options or settings menu. Look for entries labelled Controller, Accessibility, Audio, Subtitles, or Tutorials. The public listing confirms the features but does not provide a numbered in-game menu path, so labels and menu order should be verified in your installed build.
- Review the controls and tutorial reminders. PlayStation states, “You can review the game controls at any time.” Read the reminder before a session and again after a new weapon, relic, or Arcana ability appears.
- Play a short movement-and-combat test. Check ordinary movement, whip use, a basic attack, jumping or other traversal actions shown by the tutorial, and any newly unlocked ability. The goal is to identify reach, grip, or accidental-input problems—not to establish a performance benchmark.
- Try the alternate preset. If the default arrangement causes immediate discomfort, switch presets and repeat the same short test. Keep the arrangement that lets you reach the actions you use most without changing your grip.
- Use basic remapping only where needed. PlayStation calls this feature Controller Remapping (Basic), so do not assume every button, stick direction, trigger, or touch action can be reassigned. Change one input at a time, save, and retest.
Choosing between the default, alternate, and basic remapping
Stay with the default preset when
- All frequently used actions are reachable without stretching or shifting your hand.
- You can distinguish combat and movement inputs reliably under pressure.
- The tutorial explanations match what your fingers naturally expect.
Try the alternate preset when
- The default arrangement makes you move your thumb away from the stick at inconvenient moments.
- A face-button or shoulder-button position is uncomfortable but you do not yet know which individual reassignment would solve it.
- You want a reversible change without rebuilding the whole control scheme.
Use basic remapping when
- One specific action repeatedly causes pain, missed presses, or accidental activation.
- You need a frequently used command on a button that is easier for your hand to reach.
- You have tested the revised input in both traversal and combat and can remember it consistently.
Because the listing does not state which controls are eligible, do not plan around unrestricted remapping. If the game refuses a desired assignment, keep the alternate preset and use the console’s own accessibility options only where they do not conflict with the game’s controls.
Reduce vibration and adaptive-trigger strain
The PlayStation listing says the game can be played without controller vibration or adaptive-trigger resistance. Disable both if haptic feedback is painful, startling, fatiguing, or simply competes with visual information.
Rank #2
- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
- In the game’s controller or accessibility settings, turn vibration or haptic feedback off if separate switches are provided.
- Turn adaptive-trigger effects off as well. If the game exposes only a general trigger-effects switch, use that rather than leaving resistance active.
- Play through a short traversal and combat sequence. Check that removing the effects has not made you miss a visual or audio cue you depend on.
There is no evidence that haptics are required for any move. Their value is personal, and the official disclosure does not identify a gameplay advantage from leaving them on.
Configure sound without losing useful information
PlayStation identifies individual audio-volume controls that can be lowered or muted. The listing does not name each channel, so the exact labels may differ in the shipping build.
A practical order for lowering audio
- Open Audio or Volume settings and identify every separate slider the game exposes.
- Lower the channel that is tiring you first instead of muting everything.
- Keep any channel you use for dialogue or important cues at a comfortable level, then test a normal encounter.
- If one effect remains overwhelming, mute that individual channel rather than reducing the master volume.
This approach preserves information while reducing sensory load. Because no official source specifies the channel names or cue design, avoid promising that a particular slider controls attacks, dialogue, music, or environmental sounds until you can see the labels in your copy.
Subtitles: useful, but not comprehensive
Enable Subtitles (Basic) if reading text is easier than listening or if you play with sound reduced. PlayStation explicitly says, “The game includes subtitles for the main story and main characters only.”
That limitation matters. Do not expect captions for every incidental voice, ambient remark, sound effect, or non-player character. If a scene contains information outside the main story or main-character dialogue, subtitles may not identify it. Keep the volume of any needed dialogue channel at a comfortable level even when subtitles are enabled.

Use control and tutorial reminders as an accessibility tool
Remembering a larger move set can be harder than physically pressing the buttons. The ability to review controls and tutorials at any time lets you externalize that memory instead of relying on recall.
- Check the controls after unlocking a new weapon, relic, or Arcana ability.
- Review them before a session if you have not played for several days.
- Use the reminder to confirm a remapped action after changing presets.
- Keep the tutorial explanation visible long enough to test the input, not merely read it.
The listing confirms that these reminders exist; it does not state whether they can be permanently pinned on screen or enlarged.
Pausing, breaks, and offline play
According to the PlayStation accessibility disclosure, you can pause during gameplay and cinematics in offline play. Use that pause to take breaks, read a reminder, adjust audio, or change your grip. The qualification matters: the statement is specifically for offline play, so do not assume identical pause behavior in an online or connected mode.
Pause behavior can also vary by platform. The detailed feature disclosure discussed here is for the PS5 listing, not a universal specification for every version.
Platform differences you should verify
Konami’s product information lists the game for PS5, Xbox, PC/Steam, and Nintendo Switch. The detailed accessibility list above comes from the PlayStation Store page. Check the options on your own platform rather than assuming that the same remapping, subtitle, haptic, or pause controls exist everywhere.

KONAMI lists October 15, 2026 as the release date for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Its product page identifies Standard and Midnight Editions and links the PS5, Xbox, PC/Steam, and Switch versions. The Midnight Edition includes alternate costumes, a Digital Sound & Art Gallery, and an in-game relic; a physical SteelBook and Rose Belmont tarot card were described as incentives at select EMEA retailers, subject to local availability and stock. None of those edition differences establishes a different controller or accessibility feature.
Troubleshoot common control problems
My hand keeps leaving the stick to reach an action
Try the alternate preset first. If the problem remains, remap only the action you use most often, if the basic remapping screen permits it. Retest movement and combat together, because a change that helps one may make the other less familiar.
I keep pressing the wrong button after remapping
Reopen the control reminder, write down the new assignment in your own notes, and practice one action at a time. If the new arrangement still causes errors, return to the previous preset rather than adding more changes.
Haptics make sessions uncomfortable
Turn off both vibration and adaptive-trigger effects. If discomfort continues, reduce individual audio channels and take advantage of offline pausing for scheduled breaks.

I cannot find captions for every spoken line
That may be expected. The official description limits subtitles to the main story and main characters, so basic subtitles are not a guarantee of comprehensive dialogue or sound-effect captions.
The setting described here is missing on my platform
Confirm that you are reading the correct platform’s options. The detailed disclosure is PS5-specific; Xbox, PC, and Switch availability must be checked in their respective versions.
A simple first-session checklist
- Open Options and identify Controller, Audio, Subtitle, and Tutorial entries.
- Read the control reminder before leaving the opening area.
- Test the default preset during both movement and combat.
- Try the alternate preset if reach or comfort is poor.
- Apply only the basic remapping that solves a demonstrated problem.
- Disable vibration and adaptive triggers if they add strain.
- Set individual audio volumes rather than muting the entire soundtrack by default.
- Enable basic subtitles, while remembering their main-story and main-character limit.
- Confirm that pausing works as expected in your offline session.
- Recheck the controls after new weapons, relics, or Arcana abilities are introduced.
What this guide can and cannot recommend
The strongest public evidence is the PS5 store’s feature disclosure. It establishes the presence of basic remapping or an alternate preset, individual volume controls, basic subtitles, control and tutorial reminders, no-vibration and no-adaptive-trigger play, no-motion and no-touch play, and pausing during gameplay or cinematics in offline play.
