There is no single best Construct for every new or free-to-play account in Punishing: Gray Raven. Start with the units you already own, identify which role or element your roster lacks, and choose a character you can realistically obtain and build. A powerful Attacker is less useful if you cannot field a compatible Tank and support for that team.
How to choose a Construct for a new account
Judge each candidate by the team it helps you complete, not by a tier label alone. In a useful element-based team, check whether you have damage, survivability or defense, and healing or another support role covered. Consider how easily you can obtain the missing role, how much investment the character needs, and whether its playstyle feels manageable.

- Roster fit: Does the Construct fill a gap in an element and role you can use?
- Acquisition: Is the character available through a reward, selector, or banner you can realistically pursue?
- Investment: Can you build the unit without diverting resources from a more important team need?
- Usefulness: Does the team support the content you actually play, rather than only a theoretical endgame setup?
LootBar’s guide, last updated August 26, 2026, organizes recommendations by element and role and describes Fire and Physical teams as more accessible starting points. That is a third-party framework, not official guidance or a rule that every beginner should pursue those elements. [LootBar’s element-and-role guide]

Tier lists answer different questions. Pocket Gamer’s list is marked for version 4.7 and updated September 2, 2026; it places a broad range of Constructs from different elements, roles, and release eras in S tier. LootBar instead compares characters by element and role. Their labels are not directly interchangeable, and neither list by itself tells a new account which character is easiest to obtain or which one completes its roster. Use rankings as a shortlist, then check the character’s team role and your account’s needs. For example, Pocket Gamer describes Kamui: Tenebrion as a flexible Tank, Liv: Luminance as a healer, and Lee: Entropy as a Physical damage dealer. These examples illustrate different roles; they are not a universal priority order for fresh accounts.
Use early guarantees and rewards before committing
Check the first Member Recruit result
A Punishing: Gray Raven Wiki search result describes a 40-pull first S-rank pity on Member Recruit and advises using that result before selecting a base-game S-rank from the beginner selector. The page could not be independently opened, so treat the number and selector details as unverified until you check the current Global client. If the selector is available, read its live wording and consider your roster after the guaranteed result before choosing.
Rank #2
- A Ribose import
- From the Punishing: Gray Raven video game
- Figure stands 9" tall
- Depicted in an adorable blue and white rabbit-themed bikini
- Includes a shower base for a magical summer scene
Verify free character offers in-game
Pocket Gamer’s version 4.7 article says Bianca: Zero is a seven-day login reward. Login offers can change, so check the active reward schedule in your client before planning around that character. A reward is useful only if it is currently available to your account.

Plan pulls around the banner you are using
Do not assume pity or carry-over works the same way across every banner type. The available guide text distinguishes guaranteed debut banners from other banners, but the underlying page could not be independently verified. Before spending Black Cards or other pull resources, open the live banner details and confirm its guarantee, pity counter, and whether progress carries over. Pocket Gamer also advises saving Black Cards for event summons, but that guidance is version-dependent rather than a substitute for checking the current banner rules.
- Review the banner’s in-game details and identify its guarantee and carry-over rules.
- Compare the featured Construct’s role and element with what your roster is missing.
- Decide whether you can obtain the character without sacrificing a more important roster need.
- Pull only after confirming the rules and making a plan for the resources you have.
A practical beginner decision
- Make a roster check. List your available damage, Tank, and support options by element.
- Use confirmed early resources. Resolve any guaranteed first result and inspect free rewards before choosing a selector option.
- Pick one useful gap to address. Favor a team you can assemble and invest in over chasing a high rank in isolation.
- Recheck availability before spending. Banner mechanics, selectors, and login rewards may differ as the Global game updates.
The guides cited here are third-party recommendations, not official rankings. Their dated snapshots can help identify roles and candidates, but the live Global client is the authority for current availability and acquisition rules.
