Which small drill is the best fit for an RV toolbox?
The Milwaukee 3401-20 combines a short listed length with a standard three-jaw 3/8-inch chuck, making it a practical first choice if you need to drill holes as well as drive screws. Milwaukee lists its dimensions and performance on the 3401-20 product page. Those specifications are manufacturer figures, not results from RV-specific testing.

Two alternatives suit different priorities: Bosch’s PS31N is another 12V-class drill/driver with a 3/8-inch chuck, while Milwaukee’s 2503-20 has a larger 1/2-inch chuck but is longer and heavier. Bosch’s PS21N is shorter than the PS31N, but it is a 1/4-inch hex pocket driver rather than a conventional chuck drill.

These figures do not create a direct weight ranking: Milwaukee’s 3401-20 weight includes a battery, while Bosch gives the PS31N and PS21N tool-only weights. Compare each candidate with the battery you will actually use.

What will fit in your RV toolbox?
Start with the toolbox, not a product’s “compact” label. Measure the opening as well as the interior length, width and height. A tool that fits inside may still be difficult to insert or remove through a narrow opening.
- Measure the usable opening and interior in all three dimensions, including space taken by dividers or other stored gear.
- Check the full tool dimensions with the battery installed. The published body length alone does not establish the complete working configuration’s clearance.
- Allow room to grip the handle and remove the battery or bit if you expect to do that in the toolbox.
- Compare the measurements with the manufacturer’s listed dimensions, then verify the actual tool and battery configuration in the product listing or manual.
Manufacturer pages do not report whether a model fits any particular RV toolbox. The final check has to use your measurements and the complete tool configuration.

Should you choose a 12V or 18V drill?
The options here are compact 12V-class tools, selected around storage size and routine drilling or fastening. The listed figures provide a way to compare these models, but they do not establish how a tool will perform in a specific repair. If your expected jobs require a larger chuck or you already own another battery platform, weigh that need against the extra size and weight of the tool you are considering.
Battery-platform compatibility can be decisive: an existing compatible battery makes a bare tool more practical, while someone starting from scratch may prefer a kit. Compare the exact kit contents rather than assuming a listing includes a battery or charger.

Do you need a drill/driver or an impact driver?
For a tool that must drill as well as drive screws, choose a drill/driver with a three-jaw chuck, such as the Milwaukee 3401-20 or Bosch PS31N. The Bosch PS21N uses a 1/4-inch hex quick-change interface and is best considered when driving compatible bits is the priority; it is not a direct substitute for a conventional chuck drill.
Chuck size is another trade-off. A 3/8-inch chuck is the format on the two compact drill/driver picks, while Milwaukee’s 2503-20 has a 1/2-inch chuck and a listed 6.6-inch length. Select the larger chuck only if the capacity suits your bits and jobs enough to justify the larger tool.

Should you buy a bare tool or a kit?
The Milwaukee 3401-20 page identifies a bare tool and says M12 batteries are sold separately. Milwaukee also lists a 3401-22 kit. Before ordering either version, confirm the seller’s exact contents, including whether a battery and charger are included. A bare tool can make sense if you already own a compatible battery; a kit may be more convenient when adopting a platform, provided the listed contents meet your needs.
