If you want a different co-op zombie game, choose Left 4 Dead 2 for campaign runs, World War Z for huge hordes, 7 Days to Die for crafting and base defense, or Project Zomboid for slower, persistent survival. They share a zombie premise, but their play styles are not interchangeable.
At a glance: which co-op zombie game fits your group?
| Game | Best fit | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Left 4 Dead 2 | Campaign-focused co-op FPS | Five campaigns, four survivors, online co-op, and a dynamic AI Director; Steam also lists Workshop support. |
| World War Z | Large hordes and cross-platform co-op | Third-person by default, four-player co-op, story campaigns, and class progression. The PlayStation listing describes an optional first-person mode for Aftermath and Horde Mode XL on PS5. |
| 7 Days to Die | Survival, crafting, and fort-building | An open-world sandbox where preparation and construction take a larger role than they do in a run-based shooter. |
| Project Zomboid | Deliberate survival in a persistent sandbox | Detailed survival systems, online multiplayer with player-run servers, and local split-screen co-op. Steam still labels it Early Access. |
| No More Room in Hell 2 | Tactical survival horror and mission risk | Steam lists eight-player co-op, infection, permadeath, proximity communication, and objective-based Scenario Mode across six maps; its 1.0 release date is August 11, 2026. |
Which game is closest to No More Room in Hell 2?
There is no single closest match across every feature. Decide what you want to keep: a first-person campaign loop, pressure from large crowds, tactical survival, or the tension of trying to stay alive over a longer sandbox session. For a familiar co-op FPS structure, start with Left 4 Dead 2. For a more overtly tactical and punishing mission-based alternative, No More Room in Hell 2 itself remains the relevant comparison; its Steam page describes infection, permadeath, proximity communication, and objective-based scenarios.

Best alternatives by play style
Left 4 Dead 2: campaign runs and coordinated firefights
Left 4 Dead 2 is the clearest pick if your group wants to move through a sequence of purpose-built missions together rather than build a long-term base. Steam lists five campaigns, four survivors, online co-op, and a dynamic AI Director, which varies encounters as a run unfolds. Workshop support is also listed on its Steam page. See Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam.
World War Z: cinematic swarms and cross-platform play
Choose World War Z if the spectacle of fighting large hordes matters more than a first-person perspective: Steam describes it as third-person by default, with four-player co-op, story campaigns, class progression, and cross-platform multiplayer. PlayStation’s listing says Aftermath offers an optional first-person mode and describes Horde Mode XL for PS5. Check the exact edition and platform listing for the features you want, since the PlayStation-specific modes should not be assumed to apply to every version. See World War Z on Steam or check the PlayStation listing.
#1 Best Overall
- FUN & EXCITING GAMEPLAY - Build defenses during the day to prepare for zombie chicken attacks at night! Gameplay flows between day & night cycles that will keep players on the edge of their seat!
- GREAT FOR FAMILIES & FRIENDS OF ALL AGES - Zombie Chickens is the perfect card game for family game night, hanging out with friends, or playing solo in a round of zombie-fighting solitaire! 1-4 players, ages 9+, gameplay lasts around 35 minutes.
- 3 WAYS TO PLAY! You can play Zombie Chickens as a COMPETITIVE, COOPERATIVE, or SOLO game! In the Competitive game, players battle to defend their farms from zombie attacks until the last player standing wins! In the Cooperative game, players band together to defend a single farm in hopes of surviving until a rescue party arrives! In the Solitaire game, 1 player battles hordes of zombie chickens to survive as many nights as possible!
- SILLY YET STRATEGIC - Each zombie has 1 or more traits (flying, invisible, climbing, bulletproof, fireproof, timid, exploding) that you must overcome in order to defeat it. For example, a flamethrower is a great defense on your farm until a fireproof or invisible zombie comes along! So choose your defenses wisely and watch out for various events that can change the course of the game!
- CAN YOU SURVIVE THE BOK-BOK-ALYPSE? Or will the zombie chickens prevail?
7 Days to Die: prepare, build, and defend
7 Days to Die is a better fit if the fun for your group is gathering resources, crafting, exploring, and fortifying a place together. Its open-world survival design shifts the focus away from discrete campaign runs and toward what you build and how you prepare. If your friends mainly want fast, tightly directed shooting missions, that change in structure may be a drawback rather than an upgrade. See 7 Days to Die on Steam.
Project Zomboid: slow, systemic survival
Project Zomboid suits players who want a deliberate sandbox and are comfortable with survival systems taking center stage. Steam lists online multiplayer with player-run servers and local split-screen co-op. It remains marked Early Access on Steam, which says the developers avoid setting an ETA for 1.0; account for that status if you prefer finished releases. See Project Zomboid on Steam.

Choose by pace, perspective, and group setup
- Want a campaign you can complete together? Start with Left 4 Dead 2; its listed structure centers on five campaigns.
- Want enormous-looking crowds and platform flexibility? Look at World War Z, whose Steam listing specifies four-player co-op and cross-platform multiplayer.
- Want to make your own defensive plan? 7 Days to Die makes crafting, exploration, and construction central.
- Want a slower sandbox rather than a polished campaign loop? Consider Project Zomboid, keeping its Early Access label in mind.
- Want the tension of mission objectives, infection, and permanent loss? Compare those specific mechanics with No More Room in Hell 2 rather than assuming another zombie shooter reproduces them.
