Other choices suit different kinds of groups: Satellite Reign is the deepest pick for coordinated strategy, Neon Chrome is ideal for short local roguelite runs, and E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy offers the strangest and most demanding FPS/RPG experience. The right choice depends mainly on player count, network setup and whether you want a continuous campaign or repeatable runs.

1. The Ascent: the best overall co-op cyberpunk game
Why it is the safest recommendation
The Ascent is a top-down, isometric action-shooter RPG set on Veles, a densely packed cyberpunk world. Its official Steam description says: “Play the entire game alone or work together with up to three friends in local or online co-op.” That sentence matters because co-op is not a separate side activity: the full campaign can be tackled together.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a mixed group, the game avoids the biggest compatibility problem in co-op recommendations. Players can meet online when everyone is remote, or use shared/split-screen co-op when several people are at one PC or console. A four-person party is the maximum, counting the host, so a group of two, three or four can use the same game without changing its basic campaign structure.
How the gameplay fits a group
Combat is built around firearms, movement and cyberware abilities rather than a slow, turn-based system. The isometric camera keeps the whole team visible, while loot and character upgrades give each player reasons to explore and improve a build. The cyberpunk setting is not merely visual decoration: streets, corporate spaces and industrial areas provide the context for missions, enemies and equipment.
The result is a straightforward session rhythm. Players move through a mission together, fight through encounters, collect gear, spend upgrades and continue the campaign. That makes The Ascent easier to introduce to friends who do not want to learn a large set of interconnected systems before they can contribute.
Who should choose it
- Groups that want one continuous campaign rather than isolated rounds.
- Players who prefer shooting and loot over slow tactical planning.
- Friends who need both online and couch-play options.
- Parties of up to four who want everyone in the same game world.
The Ascent released on 29 July 2021. Its relatively modern presentation and clear action focus make it the strongest starting point when the group has not agreed on a more specialised style.
2. Satellite Reign: the best cyberpunk game for coordinated strategy
What makes its co-op different
Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game set in an open cyberpunk city. Every player controls an agent, and the entire game supports co-op for up to four players. Instead of controlling a single shared character, the group operates a small team whose members can move, scout, hack, sabotage targets and fight from different positions.

The official Steam listing describes the structure directly: “Play the entirety of Satellite Reign with your friends in co-op multiplayer. Up to four players can each control their own agent.” That design gives every person a clear responsibility. One player can prepare an infiltration, another can disable security, a third can create a distraction and the fourth can provide combat support.
The 2025 network change
Satellite Reign’s official page states that UNET was shut down in 2025. As a result, its co-op now works through a local LAN. Friends in the same home network can use the LAN mode directly. Friends in different locations need to place their computers on the same virtual network with a VPN that provides LAN-style connectivity, then use the game’s LAN session rather than expecting a native internet lobby.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →This is the most important practical limitation in the shortlist. A LAN-over-VPN arrangement can work, but it requires everyone to install and configure the same type of virtual network, confirm that the game can see the host, and troubleshoot firewall or routing problems if the session does not appear. The game remains a strong choice for a technically comfortable group, but it is no longer the simplest online recommendation.
Why the strategy remains appealing
Real-time play means plans can change quickly. An alarm may force the team to abandon a quiet approach, or a successful hack may open a route that was not available a moment earlier. Because each agent is controlled independently, communication has a practical purpose: players must coordinate movement, timing and roles instead of simply following the same avatar.
- Choose Satellite Reign when your group enjoys experimenting with stealth and coordinated tactics.
- Expect a systems-heavy learning curve compared with an action shooter.
- Plan the LAN or VPN arrangement before the first session.
- Use it with four players when you want each person to manage an agent.
Satellite Reign released on 28 August 2015. Its older design and current networking requirement are trade-offs for a co-op structure that gives four players unusually direct control over a cyberpunk operation.

3. Neon Chrome: the best couch co-op cyberpunk roguelite
Shared-screen runs for two to four players
Neon Chrome is a procedural, top-down twin-stick shooter built around repeatable runs rather than a single long campaign. It supports two to four players in shared-screen local co-op. Everyone plays in the same room and sees the same action, so there is no online matchmaking or remote session to configure.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Steam listing puts the focus plainly: “If your friends would like to help you bringing down the Overseer Neon Chrome supports 2-4 players in shared screen local co-op!” The objective is to push through a facility, deal with changing layouts and enemies, and try again after a failed run.
Why it works for short sessions
Procedural levels mean the group is not repeating an identical sequence every time. Destructible environments add another layer to movement and combat, while cybernetic abilities and persistent upgrades give progress a longer arc than a single attempt. A run can stand on its own, but upgrades encourage the group to return for another try.
This structure suits friends who want to play for an hour without committing to a large narrative campaign. It also makes the game useful when people arrive at different times: a new session can begin without asking latecomers to remember a complex story state.
Who should pick it
- Same-room groups with two, three or four players.
- Players who like twin-stick shooting and fast restarts.
- Friends who value replayability and procedural variation.
- Groups that do not need online co-op or a persistent story campaign.
Neon Chrome released on 28 April 2016. Its local-only format is a limitation for remote groups, but it is an advantage when the goal is immediate couch play with minimal setup.

4. E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy: the most unusual co-op FPS/RPG
A darker, more experimental choice
E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy is a dark cyberpunk FPS/RPG with hacking, stealth, character builds and a surreal world design. Steam lists online co-op, LAN co-op and shared/split-screen features. The store description frames the premise this way: “In a dark Cyberpunk world, you (and up to 3 friends) wage war against the all-powerful Federation in this Source-powered FPS/RPG.”
That combination makes E.Y.E. unlike the other games here. It is not a clean, accessible action RPG, and it is not organised around short roguelite runs. Its appeal comes from experimentation: players can approach situations through shooting, stealth, hacking and character development, then adjust their builds as they learn how the systems interact.
What to expect from co-op
With up to three friends, the party can share the game’s missions and unusual setting. The listed online, LAN and shared/split-screen options provide flexibility, but the age of the game means groups should be prepared for a less polished experience than a newer release. The interface, pacing and explanations may require patience, especially for players accustomed to modern onboarding.
The game’s demanding design is part of its identity. It rewards a group that is willing to test abilities, discuss discoveries and accept that not every system will be immediately obvious. Players seeking a smooth, pick-up-and-play evening should choose The Ascent instead; players who want a strange, cult-style FPS/RPG can find more depth here.
Best fit
- Experienced PC players who enjoy older and unconventional games.
- Groups interested in combining FPS combat with hacking and stealth.
- Friends who want to experiment with builds rather than follow a simple power curve.
- Players comfortable troubleshooting an older multiplayer title.
E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy released on 29 July 2011. Its broad feature set and unusual tone are its strengths, while its age and demanding systems make it a specialist recommendation.
Best Value

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.

How to choose between the four games
Choose by network setup
| If your group needs… | Choose | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Remote online play with the least friction | The Ascent | It supports online co-op across the full campaign. |
| Same-room play with a campaign | The Ascent | Shared/split-screen co-op supports the complete game. |
| Same-room quick runs | Neon Chrome | Shared-screen local co-op is its core format. |
| LAN play with four independently controlled agents | Satellite Reign | Its current co-op is LAN-based after the 2025 UNET shutdown. |
| Several connection methods plus an experimental FPS/RPG | E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy | Steam lists online, LAN and shared/split-screen features. |
Choose by session shape
Pick The Ascent or Satellite Reign when the group wants a campaign that carries progress from one meeting to the next. Pick Neon Chrome when the fun is in repeating runs, improving a build and dealing with a changing layout. Pick E.Y.E. when the group values discovery and unusual systems more than a streamlined progression path.
Choose by group personality
- Action-first group: The Ascent provides shooting, loot and cyberware with little strategic overhead.
- Planner group: Satellite Reign rewards role assignment, reconnaissance and timing.
- Couch party: Neon Chrome gets everyone into a shared-screen run quickly.
- Experimenters: E.Y.E. offers the broadest sense of mystery and build experimentation.
Setting up a session without avoidable problems
For The Ascent
- Decide whether the group will use online play or shared/split-screen play before launching the session.
- For online play, have the host start the campaign and invite the other players through the platform’s normal multiplayer flow.
- For shared play, connect the local controllers or input devices, then select the game’s local co-op option.
- Keep the group at no more than four total players, including the host.
For Satellite Reign
- Use a shared local network when everyone is in the same location.
- Have one player create a LAN session and have the others search for and join that session.
- For remote friends, establish a VPN that places every computer on one virtual LAN before starting the game.
- If the host is not visible, check that the VPN connection is active and that local firewall rules allow the game to communicate on the virtual network.
- Remember that the 2025 UNET shutdown means the normal former online service is not the route to use.
For Neon Chrome
- Put all players at the same screen and connect two to four local controllers or input devices.
- Start a shared-screen co-op run.
- Agree on how the group will spend persistent upgrades between attempts, since the game is built around repeated procedural runs.
For E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy
- Choose online, LAN or shared/split-screen play based on where the group is located and what the platform exposes.
- Allow extra time for every player to learn the interface and character systems.
- Discuss roles and preferred approaches before a difficult mission, since hacking, stealth, combat and build choices can all affect the plan.
Does Cyberpunk 2077 have co-op or multiplayer?
Do not choose Cyberpunk 2077 or its Phantom Liberty expansion for an official co-op session. The Phantom Liberty Steam listing labels the expansion Single-player and states that it requires the base game. Phantom Liberty released on 25 September 2023. The setting may look like an obvious match for a co-op list, but the official release information does not describe a supported co-op campaign, so it is not included among the recommendations above.
Final decision guide
Start with The Ascent unless your group has a specific reason to choose something else. It is the only option here that combines a full action-RPG campaign with both online and shared/split-screen co-op in a simple four-player structure.
Choose Satellite Reign when coordination is the main attraction and everyone accepts LAN or LAN-over-VPN setup. Choose Neon Chrome for local, repeatable runs that fit a casual gathering. Choose E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy when your group wants an older, darker FPS/RPG that rewards experimentation and does not mind a steeper learning curve.
