The best club for a story-driven FC 27 Manager Career depends on the story you want: Schalke 04 or Leicester City for a restoration, Wrexham or Hearts for an underdog climb, or a Liga MX side if you want a new format. This is an editorial shortlist, not an EA ranking. It draws on club-selection guides published since launch, and it names the criteria behind each pick.
EA’s own Career Mode guide puts it plainly: “Career Mode lets you build your own football story as a manager or player.” The club you pick sets the premise, so the choice matters.

Check the database before you commit
Ratings, divisions and rosters in these guides come from secondary sources. They can change with squad updates. EA advises downloading the latest squad update before starting a save, so do that first. Then confirm in the club-selection screen that each club’s league, squad and objectives match the premise below. Where a division or rating is uncertain, I have said so rather than stating it as fact.

EA announced worldwide availability on September 25, 2026, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game has 21,000+ players, 800+ clubs and national teams, 140 stadiums and 35+ leagues, according to EA’s 2026 launch release. Those are game-wide totals. They say nothing about any single club’s rating or story.

What FC 27 changes about telling a story
Several new systems affect how a rebuild plays out, according to EA’s launch release and deep dive:
- Rebuilt Career Mode Transfer Market. Clubs bid actively, and player values are enhanced by TransferRoom data. Recruitment is now a bigger part of any rebuild.
- New negotiation tactics. These include performance clauses and buy-back clauses. A buy-back clause fits a “sell a prodigy, bring him home” subplot.
- Dynamic OVRs. Ratings reflect form, morale and fitness, so a squad’s real strength moves during a season.
- Custom Manager Live Creator Challenges. These provide creator-made scenarios if you want a ready-made premise.
Club storylines worth playing
Schalke 04: restore a major club
A current FC 27 recommendation guide describes Schalke as back in the Bundesliga with an unfinished rebuild. Confirm the division and roster in your own game. The appeal is scale. This is a big club with big expectations and a squad that needs work.

Story arc: stabilise first and avoid relegation. Then use the club’s size to build toward a return to European competition.
Leicester City: the fallen champion
Current guides treat Leicester as a rebuild candidate or a long-haul option. One reports a squad overall of 69. That figure comes from a secondary source and may differ in your game. I’m not stating the starting division, so check it on the club-selection screen.

A current club-selection guide lists Wrexham as an underdog option. Verify its division in your game’s squads.

Story arc: lower-league-to-top-flight ambition. A self-imposed recruitment rule keeps it honest, such as signing only players whose value fits a realistic budget for the club’s level.

Story arc: challenge the established order in the domestic league, then make progress in Europe.
A Liga MX club: a new format
EA’s feature page says Liga MX is playable in Manager and Player Career. It has official squads, clubs and kits, plus the Apertura and Clausura structure. That makes it a fresh setting for readers who haven’t managed under a two-stage season.
Caveat: EA’s October 2026 launch update acknowledged issues affecting league progression, including Clausura, and said it was working on them. Check for patches before you invest a long save. A shorter first season is a safer way to test it.

How to choose between them
- Starting challenge and save length. Restorations and long rebuilds suit multi-season saves. A quick format test suits a Liga MX club.
- Squad strength and recruitment room. Check this in the game database, not in a guide.
- League and cup objectives. Make sure the board’s targets support your story, whether that is promotion, survival or a European place.
- How distinctive your own rules can be. A story with a self-imposed limit, such as no big-money signings, lasts longer than the default sandbox.
- Current mode limitations. The Liga MX issue is the known example.
With the rebuilt transfer market and dynamic ratings, recruitment and squad management carry most of the drama in any of these saves.
