For the simplest way to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running around the clock, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: upload a video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and let its cloud service loop the stream. For a DIY setup where you want to control the encoder and server, AWS EC2 in Mumbai or Hyderabad and Google Compute Engine in Mumbai or Delhi are relevant VM candidates—but neither can be named the universal best without testing your workload.
A cloud VM is only one part of a nonstop stream. You must account for encoding capacity, outbound data transfer, reconnect behavior, and monitoring as well as the instance price. The right choice depends on whether the cloud server must encode your video or only relay an already encoded feed.
Which cloud service should you choose?
There is no established head-to-head reliability or value benchmark that proves one India-region cloud VM is best for every 24/7 YouTube livestream. The practical options depend on how much control you need and who will operate the encoder:
- StreamNeo: first choice for looping uploaded videos on YouTube without maintaining your own server. It runs in the cloud and recovers automatically if YouTube drops the stream; any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps is streamed as made at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.
- AWS EC2: a DIY virtual machine candidate in Mumbai or Hyderabad. You manage the encoder, instance, storage, network configuration, restarts, and monitoring.
- Google Compute Engine: a DIY virtual machine candidate in Mumbai or Delhi, with the same need to configure and maintain the streaming workload yourself.
Region availability establishes that you can run a VM in India; it does not establish lower latency, better uptime, or lower total cost. AWS EC2 bills On-Demand instances by time used, while Compute Engine pricing varies by region and can exclude separately charged resources. Price a complete 24/7 workload rather than comparing VM sticker prices alone.

What to compare in a DIY cloud VM
Use the same stream settings and runtime assumptions for each candidate. Compare these factors before committing:
- Total monthly cost: include the VM, persistent disk, outbound data transfer to YouTube, any GPU or other paid service, and applicable taxes or fees. A continuously running stream can make network transfer a substantial part of the bill.
- Encoding capacity: confirm that the CPU or GPU can encode your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate continuously. A VM suitable for relaying a finished feed may not be sufficient to encode it.
- Network path: measure stability from your video source to the VM and from the VM to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. A region name alone cannot predict the quality of either path.
- Recovery: test what happens after the encoder process stops, the VM reboots, or the network connection breaks. Configure supervision and reconnect behavior; a cloud VM does not keep an encoder alive by itself.
- Operations: decide how you will monitor stream health and receive alerts. A server can be running while the encoder is stalled or YouTube is no longer receiving a healthy feed.
Use the current AWS and Google Cloud pricing tools for your selected region and configuration. The final estimate should reflect the actual workload, not an assumed provider-wide price advantage.

Configure YouTube ingest settings
YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1, supports frame rates up to 60 fps, recommends constant bitrate, and calls for a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Follow YouTube’s current codec- and resolution-specific bitrate table when setting the encoder.
- Example: YouTube recommends 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. This is an ingest recommendation, not a guarantee that the VM’s network path will sustain the stream; allow headroom and verify stability.
- Test representative content: YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream. Static slides, music, and fast-moving video can behave differently in an encoder and on a network path.
- Monitor stream health: watch YouTube’s stream-health information during testing and operation, not just the VM’s CPU and network graphs.
Set up a DIY VM-to-YouTube stream
- Choose the architecture. Decide whether the VM will encode a source video or relay an already encoded feed. Encoding needs suitable sustained CPU or GPU capacity; relaying still needs a stable source-to-VM connection.
- Select an India region and estimate the workload. Compare AWS EC2 in Mumbai or Hyderabad with Google Compute Engine in Mumbai or Delhi. Estimate 24/7 runtime, disk, outbound transfer, and any additional services for the same configuration.
- Prepare the VM and encoder. Install and configure your chosen encoder, ensure it can restart after a process or VM interruption, and set its output to RTMPS where supported. Follow the encoder’s own installation and security guidance.
- Create or select a YouTube live stream and retrieve its stream URL and key. In the encoder, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key. The key tells YouTube which feed to accept and acts like a password: do not publish it or expose it in logs, screenshots, or shared configuration. Rotate it if it is exposed.
- Set video and audio parameters. Choose the codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, constant-bitrate mode, and keyframe interval based on YouTube’s current guidance for your output. For the H.264 1080p30 example, the recommended bitrate is 14 Mbps and the recommended keyframe interval is two seconds.
- Run a real test before relying on it. Send representative audio and video, check YouTube’s stream-health status, and verify that the bitrate and connection remain stable. Test recovery by restarting the encoder and, if practical, simulating a brief network interruption.
- Keep it operational. Configure process supervision and reconnect behavior, monitor both the VM and YouTube stream health, and arrange alerts for failures. A VM being online is not proof that the livestream is reaching YouTube.
Plan for long-running streams and archives
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise automatic archiving for streams longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on YouTube alone to retain an indefinitely long broadcast. If keeping a recording matters, plan an independent recording or recovery process and verify that it is working.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube, not for broadcasting a camera feed. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops it from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams your upload as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support; the same features apply to every plan, with only the billing duration changing. UPI and cards are accepted in India, and card checkout is available worldwide.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube receives no signal: check that the encoder is using the correct stream URL and current key, that the VM can reach the ingest endpoint, and that the encoder process is running.
- Stream health is unstable: check for bitrate spikes, constrained VM resources, or interruptions on either network leg. Compare the encoder output with the selected YouTube bitrate guidance and test again with representative content.
- The stream stops after a VM or process restart: configure the encoder to launch automatically and use process supervision and reconnect settings. Then test the recovery path rather than assuming a successful restart.
- The VM bill is higher than expected: inspect outbound transfer, disk, and add-on services as well as compute time. Recalculate for a full month of continuous use in the selected region.
- The stream is live but no archive appears: YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; longer streams are not covered by that promise. Use a separate recording plan when retention is important.
- The key may have leaked: treat it as a credential, restrict access to encoder configuration and logs, and rotate the key if someone else may have seen it.
