What happens in “Child of the Elder Blood”?
This main-story quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer to Avallac’h’s laboratory on Pali Gap Coast in Skellige. There, they find material about Lara Dorren and the Elder Blood lineage that connects her to Ciri. Avallac’h’s research concerns Lara Dorren’s gene, which Ciri carries, and the discoveries upset Ciri.

After an elf in the bedroom directs hostile words at Ciri and Avallac’h, Ciri asks whether she should wreck the laboratory. Later, she asks Geralt to go with her to Skjall’s grave. These are the quest’s two decisions that count toward the broader Ciri ending tally.

Do these choices guarantee Ciri’s ending?
No. They are two entries in a larger set of Ciri-related decisions, not individual ending switches. WitcherDB’s guide says Ciri survives unless the player accumulates three or more negative choices overall, so choices elsewhere in the story matter too. Treat “good” and “bad” ending labels in walkthroughs as shorthand for the direction a decision pushes the tally, not as a guarantee from this quest alone.

What else is required for the Empress ending?
The Empress outcome has additional conditions beyond the decisions in this quest: Ciri must survive, Geralt must visit Emhyr, and Nilfgaard must win through the Reason of State quest. Thus, choosing both positive options here supports a positive Ciri outcome, but it does not by itself secure either a particular ending or the Empress ending.

If you want to prioritize the positive Ciri tally, encourage Ciri to wreck the lab and go with her to Skjall’s grave. If you think Geralt would instead try to calm her or decline the visit, those options reflect that role-play choice but count negatively in the tally described by the walkthroughs. The grave decision is also a direct choice about whether Geralt accompanies Ciri while she pays respects; refusing leaves her to grieve alone.
