There is no released PC game that currently delivers the full daycare-management premise. The closest match is Daycare Manager, a planned Windows title covering childcare routines, staffing and facility expansion, but its developers announced on December 10, 2021 that development was officially on hold. For something you can play now, Academia: School Simulator is the nearer substitute because it focuses on running a school, while Two Point Campus offers a broader, more comedic university-management experience. Both are educational-institution games, not childcare simulations.
At a glance: the best matches for a daycare-management player
| Game | Setting and age group | Availability | Management focus | Who should choose it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daycare Manager | Planned daycare for young children | Unreleased; development on hold | Care routines, education, employees, building, playgrounds, interiors, advertising and enrollment | Readers willing to follow an unreleased project rather than buy a playable game |
| Academia: School Simulator | High school and teenage students | Released on Steam on September 8, 2017 | School construction, teachers, facilities, student needs, budgets and sandbox management | Players who want the closest available institution-management substitute |
| Two Point Campus | University and adult students | Released on Steam on August 9, 2022 | Campus construction, staff, courses, student needs, clubs and pastoral care | Players who value humor, presentation and a wider campus-management toolkit over age-group accuracy |
This ranking is about premise and availability, not an objective quality score. The evidence available for these games does not include a hands-on comparative test, so “best” means the most suitable choice for a reader who searched for childcare or daycare management.

What a true daycare-management game would need
A daycare simulation differs from a generic tycoon game because the central challenge is continuous care for very young children. A convincing design has to combine short, repeating routines with the longer-term work of operating a business.

- Scheduling playtime without leaving children unattended.
- Preparing and serving meals, then responding to individual feeding needs.
- Managing naps and quiet periods so the daily timetable does not collapse.
- Introducing age-appropriate learning or early schooling activities.
- Returning each child safely to an authorized parent or guardian.
Running the facility
- Recruiting enough employees for the number of children enrolled.
- Expanding rooms and outdoor play areas as demand grows.
- Arranging interiors and playground equipment for a safe, usable layout.
- Advertising the daycare and attracting new families.
- Balancing operating costs against the quality and capacity of the facility.
That combination is why the unreleased Daycare Manager is the exact conceptual match in this group. The two released alternatives reproduce the institution-building side, but they use older students and different care requirements.

Daycare Manager: the exact premise, but not a game you can play now
Daycare Manager is the only candidate in the supplied listings built specifically around opening and operating a daycare. Its planned feature set spans both direct childcare and business administration.
Planned gameplay systems
The Steam community description outlines a daily care cycle built around playtime, feeding, naps and schooling. The intended objective is not merely to place buildings: you would look after children throughout the day and safely return them to their parents. That gives the project a more hands-on emphasis than a conventional school-building game.
Beyond the care loop, the planned systems include hiring, recruiting, advertising, facility expansion, playground construction and interior design. In practical terms, the game was presented as a blend of staffing simulator, schedule manager and construction sandbox. A successful daycare would therefore need enough workers, suitable spaces and a steady flow of families, not just attractive rooms.

The Daycare Manager development team posted a Steam community announcement on December 10, 2021 saying that development was “officially on hold.” The same announcement adds: “Sadly, we don’t know when or if we’ll be available to come back to it anytime soon.” That is a statement about an indefinite pause, not a launch delay with a replacement date.
SteamDB’s record for the project lists it as prerelease and shows the release date as “To be announced”; the record was updated May 18, 2026. SteamDB is a third-party database, so this metadata should not be treated as a newer promise from the developers. Taken together, the announcement and the database entry mean there is no established release date and no basis for calling the game currently purchasable or playable.
Who should follow it
Follow the Steam community hub if the specific daycare premise matters more to you than playing immediately: Daycare Manager on Steam Community. Do not buy a key or plan a current playthrough on the assumption that the project has resumed. If your priority is an available game today, move to one of the school-management options below.
Academia: School Simulator is the closest playable substitute
Academia: School Simulator shifts the setting from childcare to high school, but it preserves several management decisions that daycare fans are usually seeking: building an institution, hiring staff, meeting student needs and keeping a budget under control.

What you manage
The official Steam listing describes a high-school management game in which you design the campus, employ teachers, provide educational facilities and respond to student needs. Budget management is a central constraint: construction and staffing choices have to fit the school’s finances rather than being treated as unlimited creative-mode decoration.
Its sandbox mode is useful if you prefer experimenting with layouts and policies instead of following a tightly scripted campaign. You can test how rooms, staff coverage and student services interact, then rebuild the campus around a different plan. Those systems are structurally relevant to daycare management even though the students are older and the needs are not equivalent to feeding, napping or supervised handoffs.
Where the match ends
There is no evidence in the listing that Academia simulates toddlers, parent pickup, nap schedules or the safeguarding routines that define a daycare. Teachers and high-school facilities are not interchangeable with childcare workers and playrooms. Choose it for the management framework, not because it recreates early-childhood care.
Availability and review snapshot
The game is a released Steam title, with a release date of September 8, 2017. The Steam page showed 84% positive from 1,580 English-language reviews overall and 7% positive from 152 recent reviews when accessed on October 13, 2026. These figures are Steam’s changing user-review summaries, not an independent quality test; they can move as new reviews arrive. Check the current store page before relying on them: Academia: School Simulator on Steam.
Two Point Campus: a polished but more distant education option
Two Point Campus moves farther from childcare by placing you in charge of a university. It is still relevant if what you want is a readable management game about constructing an educational institution, recruiting employees and keeping a student population satisfied.
Systems that transfer from the daycare idea
The listing emphasizes campus building, staff hiring and course creation. You also manage student needs, clubs and pastoral care. Those elements create a chain of decisions familiar to any institution simulator: expand facilities, employ the right people, offer activities that support the population and keep students content enough to remain enrolled.
Clubs and pastoral care give the game more social-management depth than a pure construction sandbox. They also make it easier to see why this is an adjacent recommendation rather than a childcare one: the game’s population is university students, and its support systems are designed around adult learners, courses and campus life.

The table shows the central trade-off: only Daycare Manager targets the correct age group, while only the two school games are established as available releases. Neither alternative should be described as a daycare simulator.
Platform, purchase and availability checks
Availability is the first filter for this particular search. Daycare Manager was presented as a planned Windows title, but its on-hold announcement and “To be announced” database status mean there is no confirmed PC release to purchase. A page or trailer describing intended features is not the same thing as a downloadable build.
Academia: School Simulator and Two Point Campus are released digital PC games listed on Steam. Their prices, discounts, bundles, regional availability and hardware requirements can change, so check the live store pages at the time you buy. The listings provide the authoritative current details for supported systems and minimum specifications; do not assume that a computer capable of one title will automatically meet the other’s requirements.
No physical edition, childcare-specific accessory or other necessary product is established for these recommendations. You only need a compatible PC and the relevant digital game when a released listing is available. A generic mouse, keyboard or gift card is not a substitute for choosing the right simulation, and buying hardware cannot make the unreleased daycare project playable.
Which game should you choose?
Choose Daycare Manager only if premise matters more than availability
The project is the right one to watch if your non-negotiable requirement is caring for young children, arranging play and nap routines, and handling parent handoffs. Its planned feature list is unusually close to that brief. The indefinite hold means you should treat it as a project to monitor, not a purchase decision or a guaranteed future release.
Choose Academia for the nearest management structure
Pick Academia: School Simulator when you want the closest playable approximation of running an educational facility. Its high-school setting keeps the focus on room planning, staff coverage, student requirements and finances. It is the better fit for a player who values operational management and can accept that the population is teenagers rather than children.

Choose Two Point Campus for broader campus play
Pick Two Point Campus when presentation, course design, clubs and student support sound more appealing than a close age-group match. It is the most distant option from daycare, but its university systems provide a larger institutional sandbox for players who are happy to broaden the question from childcare to education management.
How to avoid buying the wrong type of game
- Check the population first. Look for explicit wording about daycare, children or early education. “School management” can mean high school or university, which changes every care and staffing assumption.
- Separate planned features from available features. A community announcement can describe an intended design without establishing that the game has launched. For Daycare Manager, the on-hold notice and absent release date outweigh the appealing feature list when you are deciding what to play today.
- Look for the daily loop. If your interest is childcare, verify that the description includes routines such as feeding, naps, play and supervised pickup. Construction alone does not make a daycare simulator.
- Check the store page immediately before purchase. Release status, supported systems and review totals can change. Third-party metadata is useful for tracking a project but is not a substitute for a developer announcement.
- Decide how much abstraction you accept. A high-school or university game can satisfy the institution-management urge while failing the childcare premise. Make that compromise deliberately rather than assuming the labels are interchangeable.
What the review percentages do—and do not—tell you
The review figures above are useful as a quick signal of how Steam users rated each released game at a particular moment. They do not measure daycare accuracy, safeguarding realism or comparative gameplay quality. They also combine many different player expectations, languages and play styles.

The especially weak recent snapshot shown for Academia: School Simulator should be read alongside its overall figure, not as a definitive verdict about every version or update. Likewise, the stronger recent snapshot for Two Point Campus does not make it a closer childcare match. Reviews answer “how users rated this game,” while the title question asks “which game fits a daycare-management interest.” Those are different measurements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why there is no definitive “best” daycare game on PC yet
The direct candidate is unreleased, and the available alternatives occupy different educational stages. That leaves a genuine gap between the search phrase and the current PC catalog represented here. Calling one of the school games the best daycare title would hide that distinction and create the wrong expectation about children, routines and parent interactions.
For now, the honest recommendation depends on the compromise you are willing to make: wait and watch the paused daycare project, play a high-school management game for the closest operational structure, or move to a university simulation for a broader and more stylized campus experience.
Frequently overlooked questions
Is Daycare Manager available to download on PC?
No confirmed playable release is established. The project was announced for Windows, but the development team said on December 10, 2021 that work was officially on hold and that it did not know when, or whether, it would return. SteamDB still records the release date as “To be announced.”
Does Daycare Manager have a confirmed launch date?
No. The SteamDB entry is marked prerelease with a “To be announced” date, and the on-hold announcement supplied no replacement schedule. Treat any future date shown elsewhere as unconfirmed unless the development team updates its official channels.

Which released game is closest to running a daycare?
Academia: School Simulator is the closest playable substitute because it combines construction, teachers, student needs, facilities, budgets and sandbox management. It is still a high-school game, so it does not establish toddler care, feeding, naps or parent pickup.
Is Two Point Campus a childcare game?
No. It is a university-management game about building a campus, hiring staff, creating courses and supporting adult students through needs, clubs and pastoral care. Choose it for broader education management, not for an early-childhood setting.
Can Steam review scores prove which title is best?
No. The recorded Steam snapshots were 84% overall for Academia and 89% overall for Two Point Campus when their pages were accessed on October 13, 2026, but those percentages are volatile user summaries. They say nothing directly about daycare fidelity, and they are not controlled comparative tests.
Is there a physical daycare-game product to buy?
The listed titles are digital PC games, and no specific physical edition, accessory, manual or collectible is established as necessary for them. Check the official Steam listings for current digital availability instead of substituting a generic gaming product.
