Short answer: Buy Hood Warfare 2 if you specifically want inexpensive, online, first-person matches with gang-themed presentation. Buy 12 is Better Than 6 only if you are happy to trade multiplayer and first-person aiming for a very cheap, single-player, top-down western shooter. It is the strongest verified bargain alternative, but it is not a direct online replacement. Prices, discounts, ratings and player counts below are time-sensitive snapshots from October 2026.
What the “$6 shooter” is
The game people are calling the “$6 shooter” is Hood Warfare 2. Some launch coverage spelled the name “Hooded Warfare 2,” so either wording may appear in searches. Trapstar Games released it on Steam on October 8, 2026, with a $5.99 launch price and a reported 10% introductory discount at the time of coverage.

Its basic pitch is familiar competitive FPS action wrapped in a fictional Chicago gang conflict. Notebookcheck reporter Marius Müller summarized the formula as: “Hooded Warfare 2 is essentially Call of Duty multiplayer with a gangster twist.” That description is useful because it sets expectations: this is a match-focused shooter, not a campaign-led crime game.
What you get for the price
Six multiplayer modes, no story campaign
There is no story mode. The game is built around six multiplayer formats:
#1 Best Overall
- 【Huge Game Library】: The wireless classic TV game console system comes with over 200 built-in games and 29 Interactive & Sport Game, so you can play all your favorite classic games without the need for downloads or an internet connection.
- 【Wireless Connectivity】: With 2.4GHz wireless game controllers, you can play your favorite games from the comfort of your couch without any wires getting in the way.(The package does not include AAA batteries.)
- 【High-definition HDMI Output】: Connect the game stick to your TV using a mini HDMI cable to enjoy retro video games on the big screen in high definition.
- 【Easy Operation】: Simply connect the game stick to the power supply, plug it into the TV, and switch to the HD channel. No complicated setup or installation required.
- 【Ideal Gift For All Ages】: The nostalgia stick game console not only provides hours of fun for kids, but also evokes fond memories of childhood for adults. It's a perfect gift for any occasion, including birthdays and holidays.
- Territory control: teams contest areas of the map and try to hold them.
- Free-for-all: every player is an opponent rather than part of a team.
- Deathmatch-style play: players or teams compete through eliminations, following the familiar FPS score-chasing format.
- Loot theft: the objective centers on taking and securing loot instead of only chasing kills.
- Bomb planting: one side attacks an objective while the other defends it, using the classic bomb-mode structure.
- Chain collection: collecting chains is the defining objective, adding an item-focused variation to the shooting.
The names indicate different priorities, but they do not turn the game into six separate campaigns. Expect short, repeatable online rounds in which movement, aim, spawn knowledge and objective decisions matter more than narrative progression.
Attachments and unlocks
Weapons can be customized with sights, grips, magazines and other attachments. Kills and challenges unlock skins and equipment, giving regular matches a reason to work toward specific goals. However, launch coverage says there is no real progression system. In practical terms, treat the unlocks as loadout and cosmetic rewards rather than a deep character-level advancement path.
That distinction matters when comparing the game with larger shooters. You are paying for access to the match loop and its weapon customization, not for a long campaign, a broad account-level progression track or a fully developed live-service ecosystem.

Launch reception: useful signals, not guarantees
Early attention was substantial for a $5.99 release. Notebookcheck reported a first-week peak of nearly 15,000 concurrent players, citing SteamDB, and described a viral clip that passed 17.5 million views on X. At the time of that launch-period coverage, Steam showed more than 2,000 reviews with a 79% positive rating.
Those figures are snapshots, not permanent specifications. A first-week peak can fall quickly, a review percentage changes as more buyers post feedback, and a viral clip does not predict how many people will be online when you play. Check the current Steam page and recent reviews before purchasing if a healthy multiplayer population is your main reason for buying.
Rank #2
- On-Rails Shooter
- 3 Different environments each with multiple levels with progressive difficulty
- 3 Different enemy types (Cowboys, Indians, Outlaws) plus Boss shootouts
- Destructible objects (crates, oil barrels etc)
- Weapon upgrades including pistol, shotgun, laser gun! Single and Multiplayer gameplay modes.
The same launch reports mention complaints about aimbots, unfavorable spawns and a very short time to kill. These are particularly important in a low-cost competitive FPS: cheating can undermine fair matches, bad spawns can make deaths feel arbitrary, and a short time to kill leaves little room to recover after being surprised. They are reported player complaints, not proof that every match has those problems, but they should shape your expectations.
The best verified bargain alternative: 12 is Better Than 6
Why it belongs on this list
12 is Better Than 6 is the clearest directly verified low-price alternative in the available listings. Fanatical describes it as a Steam top-down shooter/adventure developed by Ink Stains Games and released on November 20, 2015. Its western setting and gunplay preserve the appeal of inexpensive shooting while changing almost everything about the format.
The camera looks down on the action instead of placing you behind the weapon. It is single-player rather than online multiplayer, and its difficulty is a central part of the experience. If you want to join a lobby, select a modern FPS loadout and fight other people, this is the wrong substitute. If you want a cheap game built around aiming, positioning and tense gunfights that you can play alone, the change in perspective may be exactly what makes it worthwhile.
Price and retailer ratings
When the Fanatical listing was accessed in 2026, it showed a regional sale price of £0.55, reduced from £6.99. That is a retailer snapshot in pounds, not a universal price or a promise that the sale will still be active. Your currency, taxes, account region and the end date of the promotion can change the checkout total.
The same listing showed 4.2 out of 5 from 118 ratings and a 73% recommendation rate. These are retailer-user metrics, not an independent review score, and the relatively small sample means they should be read as one signal rather than a definitive verdict.

Retailer feedback includes praise as well as reports of bugs. That combination fits the game’s age and bargain positioning: a very low price can make rough edges easier to tolerate, but it does not remove them. Read recent comments for the platform and controller or mouse setup you intend to use.

Choose Hood Warfare 2 when these are your priorities
You want online matches first
Hood Warfare 2 is the only one of these two choices that directly answers a request for cheap online FPS competition. Its six modes provide objective and kill-focused variations, so you can switch between team goals, solo scoring and item-based tasks without leaving the same game.
You like first-person, Counter-Strike-style fundamentals
Launch descriptions position the game in the tradition of Counter-Strike and older Call of Duty multiplayer. That means the appeal is immediate gunplay and round-to-round decision-making rather than a cinematic campaign. The first-person viewpoint also makes sight attachments, recoil control and fast target acquisition central to the experience.
You want a gang-themed presentation
The Chicago gang conflict is the differentiator that the $5.99 price alone cannot provide. If the setting and tone are what made the viral clips interesting to you, the game itself is the relevant purchase; the alternative below deliberately moves to a western world.
Choose 12 is Better Than 6 when these trade-offs are acceptable
You prefer a solo game
There is no matchmaking, server population or opponent behavior to worry about in a single-player game. You can play at your own pace and retry difficult sections without relying on a team or waiting for a lobby.

You enjoy top-down aiming and a stylized western
The overhead camera changes how you read cover, line of sight and enemy movement. It is not a cheaper version of Hood Warfare 2’s first-person handling; it is a different shooting genre that happens to be inexpensive and gun-focused.
You value the lowest verified checkout price
The displayed £0.55 promotion was dramatically below the £6.99 reference price, but it was regional and temporary. Confirm the live price before paying. A sale that has ended should not be used to judge current value.
How to assess Hood Warfare 2 before buying
- Open the current Steam listing. Verify the present price, discount end date, system requirements and the latest review trend. The $5.99 launch figure and 10% discount are historical launch terms.
- Read recent reviews rather than only the overall percentage. Look specifically for comments about aimbots, spawn locations, time to kill and whether those issues are improving or recurring.
- Check current player activity. The nearly 15,000 first-week peak is not a guarantee of today’s matchmaking conditions. A game can have a strong launch and a smaller off-peak population later.
- Decide whether the absence of a campaign is acceptable. Every listed mode is multiplayer. If you need offline content, this purchase will not provide it.
- Set expectations for progression. Attachments, skins and equipment unlocks add goals, but launch reporting does not describe a deep progression system.
How to evaluate the six modes
Territory control
Choose this if you enjoy coordinated movement and defending areas. The objective gives you a reason to leave safe positions and makes team communication more important than simply maximizing personal eliminations.
Free-for-all
Choose this for an individual test of aim and awareness. Because every other player is a threat, it removes the need to depend on teammates but increases the importance of checking multiple angles.

Deathmatch-style play
This is the most straightforward choice when you want repeated firefights with a familiar score-driven structure. It is a useful first mode for learning weapon handling before trying objective formats.

Loot theft
This mode is for players who want the match to revolve around taking and securing an item rather than only trading kills. The objective can change where fights happen, so a strong team must balance aggression with protection.
Bomb planting
Bomb planting adds an explicit attack-and-defense objective. It favors players who enjoy planned pushes, holding a site and making decisions under a round timer, even though the game’s exact map rules may vary.
Chain collection
Chain collection provides another item-centered goal. It is the least conventional name in the lineup, so check the in-game explanation when you first encounter it and learn whether your priority is collecting, denying or returning the chains.

Aimbot complaints
Aimbot reports concern competitive integrity, not graphics or controls. If you encounter a player whose accuracy appears impossible, use the game’s available reporting tools, save any evidence the platform allows and avoid treating one suspicious match as proof that every lobby is compromised. Recent reviews can indicate whether reports are isolated or widespread.
Unfavorable spawns
Spawn complaints mean you may be eliminated soon after entering a round or placed in a poor tactical position. Learn common routes and cover, but recognize that map knowledge cannot fully solve a spawn system players consider unfair.
Very short time to kill
A short time to kill rewards seeing the opponent first and punishes exposed movement. Use cover, clear angles deliberately and avoid assuming that you can survive long enough to retreat after taking fire. If you prefer extended duels, this design may feel harsh rather than exciting.
Buying and price pitfalls
- Do not compare currencies at face value. $5.99 and £0.55 are from different stores and regions. Taxes and conversion costs can change the final amount.
- Separate launch prices from current prices. Hood Warfare 2’s 10% discount was temporary, and the £0.55 listing was a sale snapshot.
- Do not treat user ratings as professional review scores. The 79% Steam figure and Fanatical’s 4.2/5 and 73% recommendation describe user feedback at particular times.
- Do not infer long-term population from a launch peak. Nearly 15,000 concurrent players was a first-week high, not an ongoing minimum.
- Check the edition and platform before checkout. The cited information concerns the Steam release of Hood Warfare 2 and a Steam listing for 12 is Better Than 6.
Decision guide
| If you say… | Buy | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| “I need online first-person matches.” | Hood Warfare 2 | It is the multiplayer FPS in this comparison. |
| “I want a gang-themed Chicago setting.” | Hood Warfare 2 | The alternative is a stylized western. |
| “I only play solo.” | 12 is Better Than 6 | It is presented as single-player. |
| “I want the cheapest displayed sale.” | 12 is Better Than 6, if the £0.55 offer is still live in your region | The cited listing showed that price, but promotions change. |
| “I dislike very fast deaths and competitive uncertainty.” | Neither without checking current feedback | Hood Warfare 2 has short-time-to-kill and cheating complaints; the alternative has bug reports. |
Bottom line for a $6-shooter fan
Hood Warfare 2 is the right purchase when the thing you want is specifically a cheap, gang-themed, first-person multiplayer shooter. Its six modes, attachment system and challenge unlocks give the $5.99 launch package a clear match-play identity, while the reported aimbot, spawn and time-to-kill complaints are reasons to inspect current reviews before committing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

At the cited £0.55 sale price it was an exceptional low-cost experiment, but the price and retailer ratings are snapshots. Recheck both stores immediately before purchase.
