For a low monthly bill with modest data, Connect by T-Mobile’s 5GB plan is a strong option at $15 per month before taxes and fees. If you need unlimited data, Visible’s base plan costs $25 per month with taxes and fees included, though its hotspot is limited to speeds up to 5Mbps. Neither is best for everyone: coverage where you use your phone, data needs, hotspot limits, and whether you can prepay all affect the choice.

Which prepaid plan fits your needs?

These one-line prices were advertised by the providers on October 7, 2026. They are examples, not a complete market ranking, and plan terms can change. Compare the amount due today—not just a monthly equivalent—alongside data conditions, taxes, and any Auto Pay requirement.

Choose by your most important constraint

If you want the lowest monthly commitment

Connect by T-Mobile lists 5GB for $15 per month, with taxes extra. The price is not introductory and the plan does not require a yearly contract, according to T-Mobile’s Broadband Facts disclosure. It makes sense only if 5GB is enough and T-Mobile coverage works where you live, work, and travel.

If you can prepay to lower the monthly equivalent

Mint’s 6GB plan is listed at an equivalent of $15 per month, but that is not a month-to-month bill: the new-customer three-month offer requires $45 upfront, while the listed annual rate requires $180 upfront. Before choosing, check what the plan costs when the offer or prepaid term ends.

If you need unlimited data and a predictable advertised total

Visible’s base plan is $25 per month with taxes and fees included and advertises unlimited talk, text, and data. Its hotspot is also described as unlimited, but speeds are capped at up to 5Mbps; “unlimited” does not mean full-speed hotspot.

If AT&T coverage or annual prepayment matters

AT&T’s annual offer requires $240 paid upfront for a new single line purchased online, equivalent to $20 per month. After 16GB, speeds are reduced to a maximum of 1.5Mbps. AT&T describes its prepaid service as pay-as-you-go wireless with no annual contract; that service description does not remove the annual offer’s upfront payment commitment.

If you want prepaid service directly from a major carrier

Verizon and T-Mobile list prepaid plans with Auto Pay conditions and higher starting prices than the lowest-cost examples above. Compare each plan’s data allowance, hotspot terms, taxes, first-month amount, and price eligibility rather than assuming direct-carrier service has the same cost or conditions as another provider.

How to compare the real cost and limits

Put plans on the same footing: one line, the same period, and the amount you actually pay. A monthly equivalent can conceal a substantial upfront bill, while an Auto Pay price may not be the price for every customer.

  • First payment and renewal: Write down the total due today, the length of service it buys, and the price when any introductory or prepaid term ends.
  • Data after the allowance: Check whether speeds are reduced, network traffic is deprioritized, or another limit applies. Unlimited data is not automatically unlimited high-speed data.
  • Taxes, fees, and discounts: Identify whether taxes and fees are included and whether a price requires Auto Pay, a new line, or online purchase.
  • Hotspot: Check both the data allowance and speed. A plan can allow hotspot use while restricting it to a low speed or limiting high-speed hotspot data.
  • Coverage and network: Check the provider’s coverage map for your home, workplace, and regular travel destinations. Maps cannot guarantee indoor reception, and performance varies with location, device, congestion, and plan terms.
  • Travel and calling: Look at international calling, roaming, and travel benefits only if you need them; included calling does not establish that roaming is included.
  • Phone compatibility: Confirm that your phone is unlocked and compatible with the chosen carrier before switching.

Check coverage and your phone before switching

Coverage is local, so a national map or general claim about a network cannot tell you whether service will work inside your home or along your commute. Use the provider’s coverage tools for the specific places you rely on, and consider how much data you use in a typical month before giving up your current service.

If you bring your own device, check its unlocked status and compatibility with the chosen prepaid service. AT&T says most unlocked Android phones and iPhones newer than iPhone 6 are compatible with AT&T Prepaid; T-Mobile likewise directs BYOD customers to verify that a phone is unlocked and compatible. A compatible unlocked 5G smartphone may be useful if you need a handset, but buying a new phone is not required just to choose a plan.

Plan pages are the controlling source for current terms: the figures above reflect provider pages accessed October 7, 2026, and are not speed tests or coverage verification at any address. NerdWallet notes that prepaid service from Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T can be worth considering to save versus single-line postpaid service, but savings are not guaranteed for every customer (NerdWallet’s prepaid-plan guidance). Tom’s Guide’s 2026 comparison also highlights Mint’s upfront-payment trade-off and compares data and networks; its rankings are editorial judgments, not universal results (Tom’s Guide’s 2026 comparison).
