Choose the Newmen GM326 if you want the distinct feel of linear mechanical switches, a smaller 75% layout, a volume dial and hot-swappable switches at a much lower reported price. They are not interchangeable: one uses membrane construction and the other uses mechanical switches, so feel, sound, layout and feature priorities should decide your purchase—not RGB lighting alone.
Prices and availability change by retailer and country. Logitech’s US product page displayed $59.99 when checked in 2026, while RTINGS describes the G213 as typically selling for about $50. GamesRadar reports the GM326 is often found around $20–$25 and rarely above $30, but that is editorial pricing rather than a guaranteed live offer. Check the exact model, layout and current local price before ordering.

Quick comparison: which cheap gaming keyboard fits you?
| Keyboard | Switch type and feel | Layout | Notable features | Reported price guidance | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Logitech G213 Prodigy | Membrane with tactile Mech-Dome keys; softer and generally quieter than a clicky mechanical board | Full-size, including number pad | Five-zone RGB, integrated palm rest, adjustable feet, dedicated media controls, spill-resistance claim tested to 60 ml | $59.99 on Logitech’s US page at research time; RTINGS says typically around $50 | Players who need a numpad, quieter cushioned keys or an included palm rest |
| Newmen GM326 | Red linear mechanical switches; smooth, bump-free presses | 75% compact layout | Volume dial, hot-swappable switches, wired connection, ABS keycaps | GamesRadar reports about $20–$25 commonly and rarely over $30; verify live pricing | Players who want mechanical feel, more mouse room and a compact desk footprint |
The comparison is about two specific examples, not a claim that every membrane keyboard feels like the G213 or every budget mechanical keyboard feels like the GM326. Switch implementations, stabilizers, keycaps and firmware vary between models, even when the marketing terminology is identical.
What “cheap” should mean for a gaming keyboard
A low price is useful only when the keyboard still matches your daily requirements. A board that costs less but forces you to give up a number pad, produces more noise than your room allows or lacks a key you use constantly is not a bargain for you.

Set your budget using a live price in your country. The figures commonly quoted for these models show why a fixed “under $50” label can mislead: the G213 was listed at $59.99 on Logitech’s US site, yet RTINGS describes it as typically around $50. Taxes, shipping, sales and regional variants can move the final total above or below either figure. The GM326’s $20–$25 range comes from GamesRadar’s roundup and should be treated as a check-the-retailer estimate, not a promise.
- Confirm the exact model name and layout in the listing photos.
- Check whether the price is for a new keyboard, a regional variant or a temporary promotion.
- Make sure the keyboard uses the connector and operating-system support your computer accepts.
- Read the return policy, especially for inexpensive mechanical boards whose switches or stabilizers may vary from unit to unit.
Membrane versus mechanical: the decision that changes every keystroke
Membrane and Mech-Dome boards
Membrane keyboards register a press through a rubber dome and membrane layer. Logitech describes the G213 as a membrane keyboard with Mech-Dome keys tuned to provide a tactile response and a performance profile similar to a mechanical keyboard. That wording does not make it a mechanical switch board: the underlying construction, feel and serviceability are different.
The G213’s manufacturer specifications list 4 mm key travel and a 50 g actuation force. Logitech also includes an integrated palm rest, adjustable feet and dedicated media controls. For a player who shares a room, streams near a microphone or simply prefers a cushioned press, this style can be more comfortable and less intrusive than a loud clicky board. Membrane designs can also keep the price down, although you should not assume all membrane keyboards have the same rollover, actuation or durability.

Mechanical keyboards place an individual switch under each key. The Newmen GM326 uses red linear mechanical switches. “Linear” means the key moves smoothly without the bump of a tactile switch or the audible click of a clicky switch. GamesRadar notes that this smooth action can suit fast repeated presses, but switch preference is subjective.
- Linear: smooth from top to bottom, with no tactile bump; often chosen for rapid repeated inputs.
- Tactile: a noticeable bump indicates the actuation point without requiring a loud click.
- Clicky: adds an intentional click sound and is usually the loudest option.
Mechanical construction does not guarantee premium quality. GamesRadar reports that inexpensive boards can exhibit case echo, spring ping, inconsistent switches or cheap-feeling keycaps. Its reviewer had a positive experience with the GM326, but that is one reviewer’s evaluation rather than a guarantee for every unit.

Which switch type should you buy?
Choose membrane when quiet operation, a softer press, a full-size layout or an included comfort feature matters more than switch customization. Choose mechanical when you know you want a particular linear, tactile or clicky behavior and are willing to check build-quality reports. Do not select mechanical solely because it is advertised as “gaming”; the actual switch and layout matter more than the label.
Layout and desk space: full-size, TKL and 75%
Full-size boards
A full-size keyboard keeps the number pad, function row, navigation cluster and arrow keys in their traditional positions. The G213 uses this layout. It is the safer choice for spreadsheets, finance, chat moderation, key-heavy games and any workflow that uses numeric entry. The trade-off is width: the mouse sits farther to the right, and a narrow desk may leave less room for broad mouse movements.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTenkeyless and smaller layouts
Tenkeyless (TKL) removes the number pad. A 75% board keeps the function row and most navigation keys in a tighter arrangement, usually with smaller gaps. GamesRadar identifies the GM326 as a 75% keyboard and explains that TKL and smaller layouts reclaim desk space and can make mouse movement easier.
Compact layouts are not automatically better for gaming. Check the exact diagram or product photos for the right Shift, Enter, Backspace, arrow and navigation keys. Some smaller boards layer missing functions behind an Fn key, which can be slower when you need a dedicated key during work or play.
Use your desk and games as the test
- Measure the usable width between your monitor stand, mouse area and desk edge.
- Mark the approximate width of a full-size board; leave room for the mouse at your normal sensitivity.
- List any number-pad or navigation keys you use weekly, not just in games.
- If you never use the numpad and want a wider mouse sweep, compare a 75% or TKL board first.
Top pick for a quieter full-size setup: Logitech G213 Prodigy
What you get
The G213 is a wired, full-size membrane gaming keyboard with tactile Mech-Dome keys. Logitech lists 4 mm travel and 50 g actuation force, five customizable RGB zones, an integrated palm rest, adjustable feet and dedicated media controls. Logitech also states that the keyboard’s spill resistance was tested with 60 ml of liquid. That is a manufacturer test claim, not an independent durability certification, so keep drinks away from the board and follow the care instructions supplied with your unit.

Its five-zone lighting is zone-based rather than per-key. RTINGS specifically notes that distinction. You can customize the zones, but you should not expect the individual-key effects available on many more expensive mechanical keyboards.

Why it makes sense for some buyers
- The full-size layout preserves a number pad for work and games that use numeric controls.
- Mech-Dome membrane keys provide a tactile, cushioned press without the loud click of clicky switches.
- The integrated palm rest adds support without requiring a separate accessory.
- Dedicated media controls let you adjust or mute playback without reaching for software controls.
- Adjustable feet allow a small change to typing angle.
Where it falls short
- Its width may reduce mouse room on a narrow desk.
- Zone lighting is less granular than per-key RGB.
- Membrane construction does not provide the switch replacement and customization path of a hot-swappable mechanical board.
- The direct US price of $59.99 is above a strict $50 ceiling; RTINGS’ “typically around $50” description is a general market observation, not a live guarantee.
Buy the G213 when its full-size layout, quieter feel and built-in palm rest solve a real problem. Do not buy it simply because it has RGB or because an old article calls it an under-$50 keyboard without checking today’s listing.
Top pick for inexpensive mechanical feel: Newmen GM326
What you get
GamesRadar’s current budget roundup names the GM326 its best budget gaming keyboard. The model is wired, uses red linear mechanical switches, has a 75% layout and ABS keycaps, and includes a volume dial. Its switches are hot-swappable, so a compatible replacement switch can be installed later without replacing the entire keyboard. Confirm compatibility before buying any replacement; the roundup does not establish a universal socket standard for every regional version.
Why it makes sense for some buyers
- The 75% footprint leaves more horizontal room for a mouse than a full-size board.
- Red linear switches offer a smooth, consistent style of press for users who prefer it.
- A physical volume dial is faster to adjust than an on-screen slider.
- Hot-swap capability gives you an upgrade or repair route that fixed-switch boards do not.
- GamesRadar reports common pricing around $20–$25 and says it is rarely above $30, making it unusually inexpensive when that local price is available.
Important compromises
GamesRadar reports limited or unreliable software availability and no personalized keybinding support. That matters if you expect to remap layers, create macros or tune lighting through a dependable desktop application. The same review cautions that inexpensive mechanical boards can have echo, ping, inconsistent switches and inexpensive-feeling keycaps. Its positive review is useful evidence, but individual units and regional listings can differ.
Choose the GM326 when compact dimensions and mechanical feel rank above a numpad, extensive software or a guaranteed premium build. If you need frequent numeric entry or prefer a cushioned, quieter press, the G213 is the more coherent choice even when its price is higher.

Features worth comparing after layout and switches
Media controls and volume
A dedicated mute or media key is useful when a game is running full-screen. The G213 provides dedicated media controls; the GM326 provides a volume dial. Decide whether you prefer individual buttons or one physical control, then verify the listing because controls can differ between regional revisions.
Palm rests and typing angle
The G213 includes an integrated palm rest and adjustable feet. A compact board such as the GM326 does not provide the same full-size integrated support in the stated specifications. If your wrists already contact the desk edge, account for the palm-rest difference before treating the lower purchase price as a saving.
Hot-swappable switches
Hot-swap sockets let you change compatible mechanical switches without soldering. This is valuable only if you intend to experiment or replace a failed switch. It does not make the keycaps, stabilizers, case or firmware premium, and it does not remove the need to verify switch compatibility.
Lighting
Lighting improves visibility and appearance, but it rarely changes game performance. The G213 offers five customizable RGB zones rather than per-key RGB. For the GM326, confirm the exact lighting mode and whether software is actually available for your version; GamesRadar reports unreliable or unavailable software.
Keycaps, stabilizers and sound
ABS keycaps, as listed for the GM326, are common on inexpensive boards. They can feel thinner or become shiny with use sooner than some thicker alternatives, although the listing alone cannot predict lifespan. Listen for reports of case echo, spring ping and uneven stabilizers when evaluating a low-cost mechanical model. A quiet room, shared office or microphone setup makes these details more important than RGB effects.

How to choose in five steps
- Set a real, local ceiling. Record the current delivered price in your currency, including tax and shipping. Treat the cited $59.99, roughly $50, and $20–$25 figures as dated guidance rather than permanent limits.
- Choose the switch behavior. Select membrane for a softer, generally quieter press; select linear, tactile or clicky mechanical switches only when that specific feel suits you.
- Choose the layout. Pick full-size if you need a numpad or broad navigation cluster. Pick 75% or TKL if desk width and mouse room matter more, after checking which keys move or require Fn layers.
- Rank useful extras. Compare palm rest, dedicated media buttons, volume dial, hot-swap sockets, cable routing, lighting control and software only after the first three decisions.
- Check the compromises. Look for software limitations, keycap material, reported ping or echo, inconsistent switches, return terms and the exact regional configuration.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every “mechanical-feel” keyboard is mechanical
Marketing language can describe a membrane board with a shaped rubber dome. The G213 is explicitly membrane with Mech-Dome keys. If switch replacement, a particular switch sound or a mechanical hot-swap socket matters, verify the construction rather than relying on “mechanical-like” wording.
Using an old price threshold
A headline that says “under $50” can become inaccurate when a manufacturer listing changes. The G213’s $59.99 US listing and RTINGS’ typical-around-$50 description demonstrate why the date, country and retailer must accompany a price.
Buying a compact board without checking the key map
Seventy-five percent does not mean one universal arrangement. Compare the product image with your current keyboard, especially the right Shift, arrow keys, navigation keys and function row.
Expecting budget software to behave like premium software
GamesRadar reports that the GM326’s software is unreliable or unavailable and that personalized keybindings are absent. If remapping and macros are essential, treat that limitation as a deciding factor, not a minor footnote.
Assuming a positive review guarantees your unit
GamesRadar’s favorable GM326 experience is one reviewer’s evaluation. Low-cost mechanical boards can show unit-to-unit differences in ping, echo, switch consistency and keycap feel. Use the return window and inspect the keyboard promptly.
First-day setup and inspection checklist
- Confirm the model, layout and language legends match the listing.
- Connect the wired cable directly to the computer and test every key, including media controls, the dial and the number pad if present.
- Check for double presses, missed inputs, keys that feel heavier than their neighbors and uneven stabilizers on Space, Enter and Shift.
- Listen at your normal typing speed for case echo, spring ping or a rattle that would be distracting in your room.
- Set feet and palm position before a long session; do not force a wrist angle that causes discomfort.
- If software is advertised, verify that it downloads and recognizes the exact model. For the GM326, plan to use the keyboard’s built-in controls if the reported software limitation applies to your unit.
- Keep the receipt and packaging until you are satisfied with the board and its return eligibility.
Which keyboard should you buy?
Buy the Logitech G213 Prodigy when you need a full-size layout, quieter membrane feel, integrated palm rest and dedicated media controls, and you can accept a price that may be near or above $50 depending on the US listing and retailer. Buy the Newmen GM326 when you want a compact 75% board, red linear mechanical switches, a volume dial and hot-swap capability at the low editorial prices reported by GamesRadar, while accepting limited software and the possibility of budget-build noise or inconsistency.
The best cheap gaming keyboard is therefore the one whose compromises match your desk and habits. Decide switch feel and layout first, verify the live regional price second, and treat lighting as a bonus rather than the reason to buy.
