For a longer save, FAFIFA’s 20 August 2026 database lists all three with potential above their current rating. The right signing still depends on your squad role, budget and save context: the ratings do not establish a universal transfer price or guarantee that a player will be available.
Best high-rated central midfielders for immediate impact
EA’s official FC 27 central-midfielder ratings show several strong choices, but their attribute balances point to different uses. OVR is a useful starting point, not a complete guide to how a player will fit your formation or instructions.

Ratings and selected attributes in this table are from EA Sports’ FC 27 central-midfielder ratings page. Potential figures are from FAFIFA’s central-midfielder ranking, updated 20 August 2026; they are third-party database values, not a promise of a particular player’s development in your save.
Pedri: a high-rated technical option
Pedri combines a 90 OVR with 89 passing and 91 dribbling in EA’s listed attributes. That profile makes him a strong option to consider when you want a midfielder who can help circulate possession and carry the ball. FAFIFA lists his potential at 93, three points above the cited current rating.

Vitinha: another 90 OVR choice
Vitinha also has 90 OVR and 91 dribbling, with 88 passing. The listed defensive and physical numbers—75 DEF and 70 PHY—are lower than João Neves’s, so compare the two against the role your team needs rather than treating their similar overall ratings as interchangeable. FAFIFA lists Vitinha at 92 potential.
João Neves: a more defensively balanced profile
At 88 OVR, João Neves is two points below Pedri and Vitinha, but EA’s listed DEF 86 and PHY 82 stand out among these options. Those attributes make him worth considering if you want more defensive contribution from central midfield. FAFIFA gives him 92 potential, again as a database estimate rather than an assured in-save outcome.

Valverde and Barella: compare the attribute mix
Valverde’s listed 90 PAC and 85 PHY give him a different profile from the more passing- and dribbling-focused numbers shown for Pedri and Vitinha. Barella is listed at 87 OVR, with 84 passing, 86 dribbling and 81 defending. These figures help distinguish the options, but your tactics and squad gaps should decide which profile is useful.

EA’s ratings page also ranks women’s central midfielders among the highest-rated players at the position. Alexia Putellas is listed at 91 OVR, with 91 passing, 92 dribbling, 72 defending and 75 physical. Aitana Bonmatí is listed at 90 OVR, with 86 passing, 88 dribbling, 75 defending and 72 physical. These are relevant options when your Career Mode squad context includes them; the ratings alone do not establish availability or transfer feasibility for every save.

How to choose a CM for your Career Mode team
- Decide the job first. If you need a possession-focused creator, compare passing and dribbling; if you need defensive cover, give greater weight to the defensive and physical figures shown for candidates such as João Neves.
- Use OVR for the immediate comparison. EA lists Pedri and Vitinha at 90, João Neves at 88, and Valverde and Barella at 87. Overall rating is a snapshot of current quality, not a guarantee of performance in every role.
- Consider potential for a longer save. FAFIFA’s 20 August 2026 figures are 93 for Pedri and 92 for Vitinha and João Neves. Treat these as third-party comparison data, not a fixed development result.
- Check your club and save before pursuing anyone. Neither cited database establishes a universal transfer fee, wage, willingness to move or availability. Feasibility depends on your club and the circumstances of your save.
What the ratings can—and cannot—tell you
The EA page is the source for current OVR and the listed attribute values; FAFIFA provides the dated potential comparisons. Neither source can determine which player will improve your particular team most, and the cited data do not support calling any option a bargain or guaranteed signing. Use the numbers to narrow your shortlist, then judge fit against your squad needs and the transfer conditions in your save.
