There is no officially confirmed single “best” castle location in V Rising. The strongest choice changes with your progression, server rules and priorities. For most players, the practical route is the western plateau in Farbane Woods early, Dunley Farmlands in the mid game, and Silverlight Hills when large-scale silver access matters. PvP builders should also consider the western cliffs of Hallowed Mountains or Dunley’s northwest plateau, where terrain and limited approaches can make a larger difference than scenery.

How to choose a castle site
A useful location solves several problems at once: it is reachable from the areas you currently farm, has enough room for the castle you intend to build, and gives attackers as few convenient approaches as possible. The best-looking plot can become a poor base if every resource run crosses the entire map or if the Castle Heart sits where an attacker can reach it directly.
Use these criteria before committing to a plot:
- Game stage: Early, mid and late progression favor different regions.
- Server type: PvE rewards convenience and expansion; PvP adds chokepoints, cliffs, barriers and heart protection.
- Resources: Nearby trees, enemies, iron or silver reduce travel time and help you level equipment faster.
- Buildable area: Leave room for additional floors, production rooms and defensive layers.
- Routes: Count every practical path to the plot, not just the entrance that looks obvious on the map.
- Patch stability: Map layouts and balance can change, so inspect the current in-game map before placing the heart.
Community guides broadly converge on one region for each major stage, but they disagree about the exact parcel within those regions. Treat the regional recommendations below as starting points, then verify the ground in your current world.

Best early-game location: Farbane Woods’ western plateau
Why it works early
The western plateau in Farbane Woods is the most common early-game recommendation. A guide summary describes the plateau as having only one way in or out, which gives a new castle a simple defensive shape. Early players usually have limited materials, few servants and little spare time for long journeys; a compact site with a restricted approach is easier to wall and maintain than an ambitious, exposed build.
Farbane Woods also keeps an early castle close to the enemies, trees and general materials that help a new vampire advance. One community guide’s general advice is to build near resources, trees and enemies so gear levels can rise without repeated cross-map trips. The western plateau fits that early-game logic while giving you a natural place to test gates, walls and room layout.
Who should choose it
- New players establishing their first permanent heart.
- Solo or small-group players who want a manageable defensive perimeter.
- Builders who value a straightforward entrance over maximum late-game resource access.
What to check on the ground
- Walk the entire plateau perimeter before placing the Castle Heart.
- Confirm that the apparent single approach is genuinely the only practical route for players and not merely the most visible path.
- Mark where the outer wall, crafting rooms and storage could fit without blocking future expansion.
- Check that nearby trees and enemy routes do not make the heart area awkward to reach during routine farming.
- Place the heart only after you know where your first defensive gate and production rooms will go.
The plateau is an early-game recommendation, not a promise that the location remains optimal forever. As your travel range and resource needs grow, Dunley Farmlands generally becomes the more consistent base region.
Best mid-game location: Dunley Farmlands
Why Dunley is the most consistent all-round choice
Dunley Farmlands is described by community guides as the most consistent mid-game pick because it balances resources, travel and expansion room. That balance matters more in the middle of a run than a single defensive trick: you are likely building more production stations, making longer farming trips and needing a base that can grow instead of being replaced immediately.
The region is also near the Haunted Iron Mine, making it a practical base for iron farming. Iron access can shorten the time spent shuttling between mining runs and your crafting rooms, while the reported room for expansion lets you separate storage, production and decorative areas instead of stacking everything into one cramped enclosure.
Best Dunley sub-areas by objective
| Area or direction | Best use | Reason given by community guidance | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dunley Farmlands generally | Mid-game all-round base | Balance of resources, travel and expansion room | Exact plots vary; inspect the current map and terrain |
| Near the Haunted Iron Mine | Iron-focused progression | Convenient access for iron farming | Resource convenience may expose the base to more travel traffic |
| Northeastern Dunley | PvE convenience | A guide suggests the area near the Bastion of Dunley and Church of the Damned | The guide does not establish a single best parcel or a measured travel advantage |
| Northwest plateau | Aggressive PvP | Recommended by Switchblade Gaming for players taking an aggressive PvP approach | Its suitability depends on your server population and local attack routes |
PvE placement in Dunley
For PvE, the northeastern area near the Bastion of Dunley and Church of the Damned is one suggested option. The appeal is central access to activity and enemies rather than a siege-proof shape. Before committing, test the routes you actually use: a location that looks central may still force awkward detours around cliffs or blocked paths.
PvP placement in Dunley
The northwest plateau is the Dunley recommendation aimed at aggressive PvP. Its value is strategic rather than scenic: a plateau can simplify sightlines and let a group plan an attack-oriented base around a controlled approach. The source does not establish that every northwest plot is equally strong, so inspect the surrounding terrain and count routes from neighboring build areas.

When Silverlight becomes the priority
Silverlight Hills suits late-game builds that need silver at scale. Once silver production or repeated silver runs become a central part of your progression, reducing the distance between the resource area and your storage and crafting rooms can outweigh the broader convenience of a mid-game Dunley base.
Rank #2
Community guidance also describes Silverlight Hills as having natural elevation that can contribute to defense. Elevation is an advantage only when it translates into fewer usable approaches or better control of gates; a high-looking plot is not automatically secure. Walk the slopes and identify where a player could actually climb, cross or bypass your intended wall.
Who should move their focus here
- Late-game players whose build and progression depend heavily on silver.
- Groups willing to trade some general travel convenience for specialized resource access.
- Builders who can use elevation as one layer of a larger defensive design.
Silverlight Hills is not presented as the universal final base. If your group rarely farms silver or values a quieter, more isolated location, another region may better fit your routine. The key is matching the heart to the resource you repeatedly carry home.
Most defensible PvP locations
Hallowed Mountains’ western cliffs
The western cliffs of Hallowed Mountains are described as among the most defensible castle sites, with one real entry path. A single approach can simplify gates, traps and internal fallback positions, and the cliffs can function as a natural barrier. The disadvantages are equally clear: the area is remote, icy and resource-light. You may spend more time traveling for materials, and a defensive site is less useful if your group cannot efficiently supply it.

Another guide summary characterizes Hallowed Mountains as a comparatively quiet PvP area with minimal traffic. That can reduce opportunistic encounters, but low traffic also means fewer nearby targets and potentially less convenient access to contested resources. Choose it for security and isolation, not for a busy farming circuit.
Dunley Farmlands’ northwest plateau
Dunley’s northwest plateau is the more active PvP alternative. It is recommended for an aggressive style, where proximity to routes and contested activity may matter as much as passive defense. Compared with Hallowed Mountains, Dunley offers a more balanced resource and travel environment, but the exact defensive strength depends on the plot’s approaches and neighboring castles.
Defense comparison
| Location | Defensive feature | Resource and travel profile | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hallowed Mountains, western cliffs | One described entry path; cliffs and elevation | Remote, icy and resource-light | Players prioritizing isolation and defensive simplicity |
| Dunley Farmlands, northwest plateau | Plateau terrain suited to an aggressive PvP plan | More balanced regional access | Groups that want PvP activity as well as a defensible base |
| Farbane Woods, western plateau | One described way in or out | Early-game trees, enemies and basic progression nearby | New players learning castle defense |
| Silverlight Hills | Natural elevation can aid defense | Strongest stated reason is silver access | Late-game silver-focused builds |
No published statistic establishes a win rate, raid survival rate or numerical defense bonus for any location. These are terrain and convenience assessments from community guides, not measured guarantees.
Castle Heart placement for PvE and PvP
PvE: prioritize access and growth
One guide recommends a ground-floor heart near the entrance in PvE. The stated reason is practical: it is easy to reach when feeding the heart with Blood Essence. In a PvE world, where siege pressure is not the primary concern, that convenience can be worth more than hiding the heart deep inside the build.

A central position leaves room to expand in multiple directions and reduces the chance that a later room, staircase or production wing forces a rebuild. Keep a clear route from the entrance to the heart so routine maintenance does not turn into a maze.

PvP: assume the heart is the objective
Several community summaries identify the Castle Heart as the primary target in PvP sieges. The same advice recommends enclosing it. Another guide suggests placing the heart on an upper floor and burying it behind a honeycomb of rooms. This is a guide-derived tactic rather than an officially confirmed optimal layout, but it expresses the correct PvP principle: make the attacker spend time and resources reaching the heart instead of exposing it beside the first gate.
In practice, design layers rather than one oversized room:
- Use the site’s natural barrier—cliff, water or a narrow approach—as the outermost defensive advantage.
- Place gates so an attacker cannot walk directly from the map edge to the heart.
- Build secondary rooms and corridors around the heart, creating multiple turns instead of a straight line.
- Keep critical storage and production from forming a single obvious route to the heart.
- Check that defenders can still reach the heart quickly to feed it and respond to a breach.
High ground near chokepoints is a general recommendation in the guide summaries. In PvP, cliffs or water barriers are preferred where the terrain allows them. Do not sacrifice every resource route for theoretical security: a heart that is difficult to supply can become a liability during normal play.

- Can you feed the heart without crossing the entire castle?
- Does the planned build have room to expand around it?

- Can attackers approach from a second side you have not considered?
- Will adding another floor or defensive layer leave the heart accessible to defenders?
Choosing between PvE convenience and PvP security
| Priority | Better starting direction | What to optimize |
|---|---|---|
| Fast early progression | Farbane Woods western plateau | Short trips to trees, enemies and basic materials; simple perimeter |
| Balanced mid-game development | Dunley Farmlands | Iron access, travel balance and expansion room |
| Silver-heavy late game | Silverlight Hills | Silver access, usable elevation and enough buildable space |
| Quiet, defense-first PvP | Hallowed Mountains western cliffs | Single approach, cliffs and low traffic |
| Aggressive PvP activity | Dunley northwest plateau | Controlled plateau approaches plus access to active routes |
| PvE heart maintenance | Any spacious central plot; Dunley northeastern area is one suggestion | Resource proximity, clear heart access and future expansion |
Use the table as a filter, not an automatic answer. For example, a solo player may prefer Dunley’s balance even in PvP, while a large clan may accept Hallowed Mountains’ poor resource profile because several members can handle supply runs.
A practical scouting process before you claim land
1. Define the next ten hours of play
List the resource and enemy routes you expect to repeat immediately. If silver is still a distant objective, a Silverlight plot can add unnecessary travel. If iron is your current bottleneck, Dunley’s proximity to the Haunted Iron Mine has more practical value.
2. Inspect the approach from every direction
Walk around the candidate area instead of viewing only the intended gate. Record cliffs, water, narrow paths and open slopes. A location described as having one entrance in a guide may contain a second practical route on a changed map or a different server state.
3. Mark the build footprint
Place temporary mental boundaries for the heart, main rooms, outer wall and future expansion. A plot that fits a starter room may not fit a multi-floor castle with a honeycomb around the heart.
4. Test routine access
Make a short farming loop to the resources and enemies you actually use. Include the return trip while carrying materials. Remote defense is only worthwhile if the supply burden fits your group’s schedule.

5. Decide whether the site is a stage base or a long-term base
Farbane’s western plateau is a sensible early foundation, but Dunley is the more consistent mid-game location. Decide in advance whether you are building a compact stepping-stone castle or investing in a plot intended to remain useful through later progression.
6. Recheck the current patch
Map and balance details are volatile. Check the in-game map and current patch notes before committing, especially if a guide mentions a named patch, new region or progression unlock. Claims about “Invaders of Oakveil” in Patch 1.1 and a Redistribution Engine unlocking at level 74 were not confirmed by the available patch-note evidence, so do not use them as planning assumptions.

Cursed Forest and Gloomrot
Some guides list Cursed Forest or Gloomrot as possible castle regions, but those recommendations could not be confirmed across the available results. That does not prove the regions are unusable; it means there is not enough consistent evidence here to call either one the best location. If you are considering one, verify its current build rules, routes, resources and terrain directly in your world.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Choosing scenery over logistics
A scenic, central or elevated plot may be attractive, but repeated long resource runs become expensive in time. Compare the route to your next major bottleneck, not only the view from the castle door.
Putting the heart beside the first gate in PvP
That layout makes feeding easy but can expose the primary siege target. Enclose the heart and force turns through rooms or defensive layers, while keeping a defender’s route to it.
Building on a plateau without checking the back edge
A plateau is valuable only when its sides are genuinely difficult to approach. Walk below the cliffs and along the rear edge to find bypasses before treating the terrain as a wall.
Using a resource-rich plot with no expansion room
Iron or silver access does not compensate for a heart wedged against the boundary. Reserve space for additional floors, storage and production before finalizing the site.

Frequently asked decisions
Should a new player start in Dunley instead of Farbane?
Usually not. Farbane’s western plateau is the common early recommendation because it combines early progression access with a reportedly limited approach. Dunley becomes the stronger general-purpose choice once iron, travel and expansion matter more.
Is Hallowed Mountains always the best PvP base?
No. Its western cliffs favor isolation and a restricted entry, but the region is remote and resource-light. Dunley’s northwest plateau is better suited to an aggressive PvP plan, and the right choice depends on whether defense or activity is your priority.
Where should the Castle Heart go in PvE?
A guide recommends a ground-floor position near the entrance for easier Blood Essence feeding. Keep it central enough to allow expansion and avoid trapping it behind later rooms.
Where should the Castle Heart go in PvP?
Enclose it. Guide summaries describe the heart as the primary siege target and suggest an upper-floor position behind a honeycomb of rooms, while still preserving a fast defender route for maintenance.
Can I rely on a guide’s exact coordinates?
No exact coordinates are established here. Guides disagree within regions, and map details are volatile. Use the recommended region, then inspect the current in-game terrain and patch notes.
Final decision framework
Pick Farbane Woods’ western plateau when you are establishing an early base and want a simple perimeter. Pick Dunley Farmlands when you need the most dependable balance of iron access, travel and expansion. Pick Silverlight Hills when silver has become the resource that dictates your routine. For PvP, choose Hallowed Mountains’ western cliffs for a remote, single-approach defense or Dunley’s northwest plateau for a more aggressive position.
