What “track” means at Best Buy
Best Buy’s published pricing information explains how prices can change and how to request a price match or adjustment; it does not describe an automatic alert service for ordinary purchases. Prices may vary during the day and by store, region, website, app, or sales channel. To keep watch, revisit the product listing yourself and, after buying, check the order’s details for a price-match option.

There are two different situations: asking Best Buy to match a qualified competitor’s current price, and asking it to honor a lower Best Buy price. The eligible offer and request process depend on which situation applies and where the purchase stands.
Check whether a competitor price qualifies
Before contacting Best Buy, compare the actual offers. The competitor’s lower offer must still be active when Best Buy reviews it. Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee policy, effective September 2, 2026, generally requires all of the following:

- Good at Bestbuy.com and in any US Best Buy location, Best Buy Mobile stores or Puerto Rico locations.
- Redemption: Instore and Online
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
- Same item: The brand, model number, and color must match.
- New condition: Open-box, refurbished, and pre-owned items do not qualify.
- Available now: The offer must be immediately available; out-of-stock and limited-quantity offers are excluded.
- Eligible seller: The item must be sold by Best Buy or a qualified competitor itself, not by a third-party marketplace seller.
- Qualified competitor: The retailer must be on Best Buy’s Qualified Competitors list.
The Qualified Competitors list, which states an effective date of May 11, 2025, names Abt, Amazon, Apple, B&H Photo Video, BJ’s Wholesale Club, BrandsMart USA, Costco, Crutchfield, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Micro Center, Nebraska Furniture Mart, P.C. Richard, RC Willey, Sam’s Club, Target, and Walmart. Best Buy excludes marketplace listings on those retailers’ sites. Check Best Buy’s current list before making a request because the published list may change.
Offers that are commonly excluded
The policy excludes many offer types, not just marketplace listings. Examples include clearance, open-box, refurbished, pre-owned, liquidation, trade-in, coupon, bundle, subscription, financing, credit-card or gift-card offers, and prices limited to customer groups or loyalty programs. Warehouse-club offers have a stated exception under specific conditions. Other exclusions include competitor service prices, contract phones, pre-orders, Best Buy Education and Business transactions, Black Friday and specified daily or hourly promotions, the specified Thanksgiving period, and some membership-related video-game discounts. The policy’s terms and exclusions can change, so check the current terms rather than assuming this list covers every case.

Best Buy says Puerto Rico stores have their own posted terms and do not match online and app prices. If a warehouse-club price requires a membership login, Best Buy says the request is available only in store and must be based on a live offer, not a screenshot.

Confirm the brand, model number, color, condition, seller, and current stock on both listings. Keep the competitor’s live webpage open or have its current ad and web address ready so Best Buy can verify the item, price, and availability.

For an online comparison, Best Buy compares the current pre-tax price; shipping and delivery charges are not included. A coupon price is not eligible for a price match. Best Buy’s FAQ says you may use a coupon or request a match to the lower price, but not both.

For a store visit, have the competitor’s current listing or ad ready. For a web order, use chat or phone rather than going to a store or sending email to complete the request.
Can Best Buy adjust its own price after you buy?
Yes, if the purchase meets the policy terms and the request is made during the return and exchange period. Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee policy, effective September 2, 2026, states: “If we lower our in-store, online or app price during the return and exchange period, we will match our lower price, upon request.” This is a request-based adjustment, not an automatic alert or refund for ordinary purchases.

Store pickup, scheduled delivery, and pre-orders
- Store pickup: A BestBuy.com pickup order may qualify if the item’s price is lower in store or online when you pick it up.
- Scheduled delivery: If Best Buy lowers its price before the scheduled delivery date, Best Buy says to call; it says it will refund the full difference, including tax.
- Pre-order: If the price drops by the time the order ships, Best Buy says it automatically charges the lower price.
These cases have distinct timing rules. Check the relevant order details and contact Best Buy through the route specified for that situation.
A practical way to check for a price change
- Save the product identity. Note the exact model number and color, along with the original order or product listing.
- Recheck the live offer. Visit BestBuy.com or the qualified competitor’s current product page. Confirm condition, seller, stock, and the offer price; do not rely on a stale search result or screenshot.
- For a Best Buy purchase, inspect Order Details. If already received or picked up, look for “See details” and check price-match availability. For a store purchase, retain your receipt and contact the store.
- Request review while the offer is active. Use chat or 1-888-237-8289 for an online order; for a store purchase, ask a Customer Specialist or Customer Service.
- Account for the timing rule. For an ordinary post-purchase Best Buy adjustment, check that you are within the return and exchange period. For scheduled delivery, call about a drop before delivery; for a pre-order, the lower price is charged at shipment according to Best Buy’s policy.
