The game is scheduled for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026; depending on your time zone, the opening falls on the evening of November 4. Check your local store before making plans: Best Buy has not said every location will participate, and the announcement does not establish a midnight event at other retailers.

What launches, and which system do you need?
Nintendo lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for November 5, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, and describes the remake as a Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo’s U.S. product page lists a physical edition. If you are attending for a copy, the platform requirement matters: this release is not listed for the original Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo says the first print run’s physical game will have special packaging with textured foil cover art, while supplies last. That packaging is a limited first-run feature, not a promise that every physical copy will include it.

- Play the original Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Or the Master Quest edition with many bonus features
What else might be available at the opening?
Best Buy says a limited number of the game, the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 system, and the matching Pro Controller will be available in stores. That is a limited-stock announcement, not confirmation of inventory at every participating location or a reservation. Check with your store and your order details rather than assuming an item will be waiting.
Why is Nintendo bringing Ocarina of Time back?
Nintendo has announced a substantial remake rather than a simple reissue. Its stated updates include overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, revised camera and movement controls, faster loading, a continuing day-and-night cycle, and a tapestry that tracks story progress. These are Nintendo’s announced features; they are not independent hands-on findings.
Rank #3
- Play the original Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Or the Master Quest edition with many bonus features
The scale of the announced updates helps explain why this launch has a late-night retail event, but the confirmed claim is narrower: Best Buy is holding late openings at nearly all U.S. stores. The official announcements do not establish a broader return of midnight launches across retailers, nor do they provide attendance or demand figures.
