Best Budget TVs for Wide Viewing Angles: What to Know Before You Buy

If your sofa or dining area spreads across the room, prioritize how a TV holds color, brightness, and contrast from the side—not a manufacturer’s single “viewing angle” figure. OLED is the strongest broad-category starting point for off-center consistency, and the LG B5 OLED is a current budget-oriented example; the available comparison says it has a wider viewing angle than the Hisense U7SG. Exact prices, sizes, and regional availability still need checking.

What a wide viewing angle means in a real room

Side seating can change more than brightness. Colors may wash out or shift, blacks can look lighter, and gamma—the relationship between image tones—can change. If one person sits near the center, these effects may matter little; if several viewers sit far to either side, they can make the picture look noticeably different across the room.

RTINGS’ viewing-angle score combines color washout, color shift, brightness loss, black-level raise, and gamma shift. Its published component weights are 5.0%, 4.0%, 6.0%, 4.0%, and 6.0%, respectively. Those listed components total 25%, so they should not be mistaken for a complete 100% score. RTINGS explains its viewing-angle test and scoring.

The lab procedure measures horizontal viewing: RTINGS displays an image, films the set from a fixed position, then rotates it to capture angles up to 70 degrees to the right. That offers a useful comparison for side seating, but it is a defined horizontal test—not a guarantee that every seat, image, or room will look identical.

Which budget TV is the best starting point?

LG B5 OLED: the wide-angle-oriented example

RTINGS’ 2026 guide to TVs under $1,000 describes the LG B5 OLED as a budget OLED choice and says it has a wider viewing angle than the Hisense U7SG. That supports considering the B5 when off-center viewing is a priority; it does not establish an exact angle score, a current street price, or that the B5 is the best value in every country or screen size. Check the exact regional model and size before buying. See RTINGS’ under-$1,000 guide.

TCL QM6K: a budget or large-screen alternative to investigate

The same guide identifies the TCL QM6K as an option for strict budgets or for shoppers seeking a 75-inch TV under $1,000. That is a price-and-size consideration, not evidence that it is a wide-angle winner. Before choosing it for side seating, check its full independent viewing-angle results for the exact configuration you are considering.

Do not treat a manufacturer angle claim as a test result

TCL Europe describes its C6K model family, listed in sizes from 50 to 98 inches, as offering an “ultra-wide viewing angle.” That wording is the manufacturer’s claim, not independent proof that the C6K outperforms other TVs. Use the TCL Europe C6K page for the regional product information it provides, then seek independent measurements before relying on the claim.

How panel type affects the choice

OLED is the clearest category-level bet for side seating

RTINGS says OLED pixels emit light in all directions and that OLED TVs have very wide viewing angles, better than IPS panels. That makes OLED a sensible panel-level starting point when consistent off-center color and brightness are more important than finding the lowest possible price.

Some VA TVs trade contrast for improved angles

Viewing-angle technology can improve the angles of some VA sets, but RTINGS says it can reduce contrast and is generally found on higher-end TVs. A VA model may therefore require a compromise: the technology can help people seated to the side, while the contrast benefit associated with VA may be reduced.

Match the TV to your seating and room

  1. Map the seats. Note the farthest left and right seats and how far each is from the screen’s centerline. A wide seating spread makes off-axis consistency more important than it is for a single centered viewer.
  2. Decide how much consistency matters. If viewers regularly sit well off center, prioritize independent results covering color, brightness, black levels, and gamma rather than relying on one angle number.
  3. Account for room brightness. Viewing-angle evidence alone does not determine whether a TV will be bright enough for your room. Consider how bright the room is and verify a candidate’s brightness performance separately.
  4. Compare the exact model and size available locally. Confirm the full model name, screen size, and country-specific configuration. Availability and model suffixes can vary by region, and a recommendation can change as new models arrive. RTINGS notes that its current picks can include 2025 models when they remain available. Check RTINGS’ current market-picks guide.
  5. Compare the delivered price. No date-specific retailer price or inventory is established here. Check current local listings for your chosen size rather than assuming that an under-$1,000 guide or past price applies to your purchase.

What to verify before choosing

  • Independent test results address several off-axis changes—not just the manufacturer’s angle claim.
  • The precise model and size are available in your country, and their configuration matches the review you consulted.
  • The current price fits your budget; a guide’s category or past recommendation does not guarantee today’s price.
  • The TV also suits your room’s brightness and your typical content, since wide-angle performance alone does not settle those questions.
