Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a standard PS4, a responsive 1080p TV is enough; a 4K model also works and will scale the console’s signal. PS4 Pro is the only PS4 model that outputs 4K, so choose a TV with 4K/60Hz support if you want to use that feature. For current US budget shortlists, RTINGS names the TCL QM6K as its general budget pick and lists the Hisense 55U6SF Pro and 65-inch TCL QM5K in its under-$500 guide. Prices and availability change, so check the exact model, size, and return terms locally.
What matters most when choosing a PS4 TV?
Match the TV to your console first. The standard PS4 does not output 4K, so a 1080p set can deliver its picture without requiring you to pay extra for resolution you cannot use. A 4K TV can still be a sensible choice: it accepts and scales the standard PS4’s signal, and it can display 4K output from a PS4 Pro.

For either console, check how the TV performs in Game Mode. A high advertised refresh rate is not a substitute for low input lag: responsiveness is the delay between a controller action and the corresponding image on screen. RTINGS calls input lag below 15 ms a good value for 4K/60Hz input; that is its guidance, not a universal pass/fail standard. See RTINGS’ input-lag testing and methodology.
- Standard PS4: Prioritize a suitable size, 1080p resolution or better, and responsive 60Hz Game Mode.
- PS4 Pro: If you want 4K, verify 4K/60Hz support and which HDMI input supports it.
- HDR: Look beyond the HDR10 label. Brightness, contrast, reflections, and local dimming influence how convincing HDR looks on a budget TV.
- Connections: Check that the TV has enough HDMI inputs in convenient locations for your console and other devices.

| Model | What the guide highlights | Trade-offs and fit for PS4 |
|---|---|---|
| TCL QM6K | RTINGS’ general budget pick in its 2026 roundup; it describes deep blacks, colorful imagery, two HDMI 2.1 ports, VRR, and high-refresh-rate support. | Those advanced gaming features are mainly useful with newer consoles or PCs; they are not required for PS4. RTINGS notes modest motion blur. Check local price and available size. RTINGS’ 2026 budget TV guide |
| Hisense 55U6SF Pro | RTINGS’ under-$500 guide names it as its best TV under that price ceiling, with a 55-inch option and low additional input lag among its gaming features. | The price is variable, and the guide notes motion-handling limitations. Assess whether 55 inches suits your room and viewing distance. RTINGS’ 2026 under-$500 guide |
| TCL QM5K, 65-inch | RTINGS’ named 65-inch under-$500 choice; the guide describes local dimming and 1080p/1440p at 144Hz with VRR. | RTINGS notes brightness loss in HDR gaming mode. The high refresh rate does not improve the standard PS4’s output by itself. RTINGS’ 2026 under-$500 guide |
| Vizio Mini LED Quantum 4K, 75-inch | RTINGS lists it as a 75-inch under-$500 choice and describes 4K/60Hz and 1080p/120Hz with VRR. | The guide notes limits in gaming features and motion handling. Check the exact size and SKU, along with current availability and price. RTINGS’ 2026 under-$500 guide |
“Under $500” is the category used by that roundup, not a promise that a model is currently available at that price from every retailer. The recommendations are US-oriented; model names, sizes, prices, and stock can differ by region.
How to choose the right size and features
Start with the room and viewing distance
Choose a screen size that fits your seating distance and space rather than buying the largest model on a shortlist. Measure the available width and consider where the TV will sit; a 65- or 75-inch option may be poor value if it overwhelms the room or forces an uncomfortable viewing position.
Decide whether you need 4K
If you own a standard PS4 and are buying only for that console, 1080p is sufficient. If you own a PS4 Pro, or want the TV for other 4K sources, a 4K set makes more sense. For Pro gaming at 4K, confirm 4K/60Hz compatibility rather than assuming every HDMI port handles it.

PS4 gaming does not require 4K/120Hz, 4K/144Hz, or VRR. These may be useful for future consoles or a gaming PC, but they are not a reason by themselves to pay more for a PS4 television. Give greater weight to Game Mode input lag and the picture quality you will actually see.

Judge HDR by more than its label
PlayStation’s HDR setup guidance requires an HDR10-capable 2K or 4K television and HDR-enabled content. But format support alone does not establish that a TV can produce a striking HDR image. RTINGS’ budget roundups discuss brightness, contrast, reflections, and local dimming as factors that separate budget models. Read its model-specific comments rather than treating “HDR” as a guarantee of image quality.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Set up HDR on a PS4
Sony says all PS4 consoles support HDR video output for gameplay and streaming. HDR depends on the whole connection and content chain: the TV must support HDR10, the game or video must offer HDR, the PS4 must run system software 7.0 or later, and the connection must use a Premium HDMI cable. See PlayStation’s PS4 HDR setup instructions.
- Check the TV manual to identify an HDMI input that supports HDR. Enable the TV’s HDR, UHD, or Deep Color setting for that input if required.
- Connect the PS4 directly to the TV with a Premium HDMI cable. A receiver or other device in the chain can prevent HDR from working.
- On the PS4, open Settings > Sound and Screen > Video Output Settings. Set HDR and Deep Color Output to Automatic.
- Check the console’s Video Output Information screen to confirm HDR support. Use HDR-enabled content to test the result.
Set up 4K on a PS4 Pro
Only PS4 Pro outputs 4K. Sony’s setup guidance says to enable 4K on both the console and TV, use the TV’s designated 4K HDMI input where applicable, and confirm the display supports 4K/60Hz. The HDMI cable supplied with PS4 Pro is suitable. Follow PlayStation’s PS4 Pro 4K and HDR instructions.
Recommended Free Tools
If 4K or HDR is unavailable, check the selected HDMI port and the TV’s per-input settings first. Then verify the PS4 video output settings and any cable or device between the console and TV against the manufacturers’ guidance.
Quick Recap
Before you buy
- Confirm whether you have a standard PS4 or PS4 Pro; this determines whether 4K output is relevant.
- Compare the TV’s screen size with your room and seating distance.
- Look for responsive Game Mode performance at 60Hz, not just a large refresh-rate number on the box.
- For PS4 Pro 4K, verify 4K/60Hz support on the HDMI input you plan to use.
- For HDR, check HDR10 support and the TV’s real-world brightness and contrast characteristics, then make sure the full signal path supports HDR.
- Check current local price, exact regional model code, stock, HDMI-port count, and return policy. Roundup prices and availability are not universal.
