That is the clearest inexpensive Samsung option with a stated long-support term. The newer A27 5G may also fit a budget, while the A37 5G, A56 5G and A57 5G cost more. Check the exact U.S. model, storage, carrier compatibility and live price before buying.
The short answer
If software longevity is your first priority, start with the Galaxy A17 5G. Samsung Electronics America announced U.S. availability from January 7, 2026, and explicitly promised six Android/One UI generations and six years of security updates. Its announced starting price was $199.99, making it the strongest answer to “What is the cheapest Samsung Galaxy phone with six years of updates?” based on the published U.S. terms.

The Galaxy A26 5G, A36 5G and A56 5G belong to the preceding A-series announcement that also describes six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates for the lineup. Samsung’s March 2026 announcement gives the A37 5G and A57 5G an “up to” six-generation and “up to” six-year commitment. The A27 5G is listed on Samsung’s current U.S. store, but the available material does not establish its exact update term, so treat it as a price-and-specification candidate rather than an evidence-backed six-year pick.
“Long-term updates” do not guarantee that every regional variant receives patches on the same day, that updates arrive monthly for the entire period, or that an inexpensive phone will remain fast enough for your workload. Storage, memory, modem compatibility, display, durability and the model’s launch date all affect how useful those years will be.

What Samsung’s update promises actually tell you
Operating-system generations and security years are different
An Android/One UI generation count describes major platform and Samsung-interface upgrades. A security-update term describes the period in which Samsung says it will provide security maintenance. They are separate benefits; a phone can receive fewer major-version upgrades than security patches, so compare both figures rather than treating one as a substitute for the other.
“Up to” is a qualification, not a guaranteed schedule
Samsung uses “up to” for several newer A-series models. That wording preserves conditions that can vary by model, region and software-release policy. It is appropriate to report the promise as written, not to convert it into a guaranteed calendar end date or a claim of identical support for every carrier SKU.
Support duration starts from a product’s support timeline
A phone bought late in its sales cycle may have fewer years remaining than one bought near launch, even when both carry the same nominal promise. Before paying, confirm the model’s first-sale timing, the exact regional SKU and Samsung’s current support listing. The U.S. figures below are not a promise for another country.

The announced prices, dated MSRP file and live-store snapshots are different types of evidence. None should be treated as a permanent sale price. Samsung’s price file also marks some A26, A36 and A56 stock-keeping units as end-of-life, so availability can matter as much as the old MSRP.
Model-by-model buying guidance
Galaxy A17 5G: the clearest budget longevity pick
The A17 5G combines the lowest clearly documented price with an explicit six-generation and six-year statement. Its 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage are entry-level, but microSD expansion can help with photos and media. IP54 and the listed Gorilla Glass Victus front glass are vendor specifications; they do not replace a case or prove drop resistance in everyday use.
Choose it when your workload is messaging, web browsing, navigation, streaming, banking and light photography, and when keeping the purchase price low matters more than demanding multitasking. Before checkout, verify that the advertised unit is the 5G U.S. model, unlocked if required, and that the storage configuration matches the listing.

Galaxy A27 5G: a live-store option requiring verification
The A27 appears on Samsung’s current U.S. smartphone page at a price close to the mid-budget range. However, the available announcement material does not confirm its update duration or detailed U.S. specifications. That makes it impossible to rank it above the A17 on software-support evidence alone.

If you are considering the A27, open Samsung’s support information for the exact model number and look for a stated Android/One UI and security policy. Compare the delivered configuration, carrier bands and warranty terms with the A17 rather than assuming a newer model automatically has a longer promise.
Galaxy A26 5G: documented longevity at a higher entry price
The A26 5G is part of Samsung’s A-series statement covering six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. The cited U.S. configuration has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, which may be a better fit than an entry model for heavier app switching. Samsung notes that configurations can vary by market, so inspect the U.S. listing and model number.

Its higher launch price buys more memory than the A17 configuration described here, but the available material does not provide comparative performance testing. Select it for the specific memory, storage or feature combination you need, not on the assumption that the processor will remain faster for a known number of years.
Galaxy A36 5G: a display and protection step up
The A36 5G carries the same published A-series longevity statement and is listed with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, a 5,000 mAh typical battery and IP67 water and dust resistance. Those are specifications, not independent battery-life or durability results. A larger, higher-feature display can be valuable for reading, video and navigation, but it also makes the phone a larger purchase.
It makes sense when the A17 or A26 would force compromises in screen size or the listed protection rating. It is not the economical choice if your only goal is the longest documented software support per dollar.

Galaxy A56 5G: higher-priced A-series headroom
The A56 5G is also covered by Samsung’s six-generation/six-year A-series announcement and has the listed 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, 5,000 mAh typical battery and IP67 rating. Samsung later announced U.S. availability that included an Amazon-exclusive color; colors and inventory are not guaranteed to remain available.
At its launch-level price, it belongs in a “pay more for features” decision rather than a strict budget shortlist. Confirm the exact storage, color, unlocked status and remaining support period before comparing it with a newer model at a similar price.
Galaxy A37 5G and A57 5G: newer, but not automatically better value
Samsung’s March 2026 statement gives both models an “up to” six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and “up to” six years of security updates. The live U.S. prices captured for them place the A37 well above the A17 and the A57 higher still. Their newer launch timing may mean more support time remains at purchase, but the available material does not establish independent performance, battery-aging or update-rollout advantages.

Galaxy A16 5G: the cheaper price is not the same as a verified long-support deal
The March 2026 Samsung MSRP file lists the A16 5G below the A17. The available material does not attach the same explicit six-year security and six-generation operating-system commitment to it. If long support is the reason you are shopping, the lower MSRP is not enough evidence to make it the better buy.

- Set the support floor. Decide whether you require an explicit six-year security term, six major Android/One UI generations, or simply the longest practical life at your price. Use the exact wording on Samsung’s page for the model and region.
- Compare the total purchase cost. Separate a launch price, an MSRP and a live promotional price. Add required accessories, sales tax, storage upgrades and any carrier condition. A short-term discount does not change the support policy.
- Match memory and storage to your use. The cited A17 configuration has 4 GB/128 GB, while the cited A26 and A36 configurations have 6 GB/128 GB. More RAM can make multitasking more comfortable, but the available evidence does not quantify a speed difference.
- Check the physical specification you actually need. The A17’s IP54 and listed front glass differ from the IP67 rating listed for the A36 and A56. Ratings describe test conditions; they are not insurance against immersion, drops or repair costs.
- Confirm network and regional compatibility. Match the model number, 5G or LTE variant, supported bands, eSIM or SIM requirements and carrier approval. A phone with the right update policy is not useful if it cannot connect reliably to your network.

Choose the Galaxy A17 5G first when you want the lowest clearly documented Samsung price with six generations of Android/One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. Move to the A26 5G if its 6 GB configuration and higher-tier features justify the additional cost. The A36 and A56 add a larger AMOLED display, a 5,000 mAh typical battery and IP67 protection in the cited specifications, while the A37 and A57 are newer, higher-priced options with Samsung’s “up to” wording.
