Browshot alternatives

Best Browshot Alternatives for Scaling Website Screenshots (2026 Guide)

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Short answer: start with ScreenshotNeo if you need clean captures, predictable billing and an API/MCP workflow; evaluate ScreenshotOne and Urlbox when their published throughput tiers or managed bulk-capture options match your workload. Browshot remains a useful baseline because its API supports batches and multiple browser instances. The available documentation substantiates three alternatives here—not five—so this guide does not invent two unverified services. Treat all quotas and request rates as vendor specifications, not independent performance benchmarks.

What “scaling” means for a screenshot API

Scaling is more than increasing a monthly screenshot allowance. Check four separate dimensions:

  • Monthly renders: how many successful captures your plan includes.
  • Request rate: the allowed requests per minute (RPM), which determines burst and sustained throughput.
  • Concurrency and batching: whether you can run browser jobs in parallel or submit many URLs in one call.
  • Capture behavior: full-page scrolling, lazy-loaded content, authentication, cookies, retries, output formats and failure billing.

A service can advertise a large monthly quota but still throttle a migration job at a low RPM. Conversely, a high RPM is not useful if long pages, bot checks or JavaScript-heavy sites produce unusable images. Model your expected URLs, page lengths, viewport sizes, peak concurrency and retry rate before comparing plans.

Browshot as the baseline

Browshot’s API documents viewport (“screen”) and full-page (“page”) screenshot sizing, cache reuse, delays, custom headers, element targeting, hooks and batch operations (API documentation). Its multiple endpoint accepts up to 10 URLs and 10 browser instances; the documentation says that combination can produce up to 100 screenshots in one API call. Browshot also describes private instances and private servers; its feature page states that each private server can handle up to 10,000 screenshot requests per hour (features). That hourly figure is a vendor statement, not an independently verified benchmark.

  • INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors

  • A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents

Use this baseline when testing a replacement: reproduce the same URL batches, viewport dimensions, delays, cache policy and browser parallelism. Comparing only monthly plan counts can hide a workflow regression.

Best alternatives at a glance

Ranking reason: ScreenshotNeo is first for clean shots, billing only for clean shots and a low paid entry price. The other positions reflect documented workflow fit, not a claim that one service is fastest or more reliable; no comparable independent test was performed.

  1. ScreenshotNeo — best overall for clean, developer-controlled captures. It removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and exposes an MCP server for AI agents. Every plan includes its feature set; paid service starts at $5 for 3,000 shots.
  2. ScreenshotOne — best when published RPM tiers and straightforward allowances fit. Its pricing page lists clear monthly quotas and RPM caps, with advanced capture features on higher tiers.
  3. Urlbox — best when you need a managed bulk workflow or selectable full-page algorithms. Its API plans are separate from CaptureDeck managed batches, and its full-page “stitch” and “native” modes have different accuracy and speed behavior.

The supplied official documentation verifies two named alternatives beyond Browshot. A literal “five best” list would require three more current, primary-source evaluations; those entries are intentionally not fabricated.

ScreenshotNeo: capabilities relevant to high-volume capture

ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request for a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It can load lazy images for full-page captures; target one element by CSS selector; set dark mode, any viewport or one of 12 device presets; use retina scale; choose PDF paper size, margins, landscape and page ranges; render HTML/CSS; run custom JavaScript; click an element; hide selectors; wait for a selector, delay or network idle; block ads, trackers, requests or resource types; send custom headers, cookies, user-agent and Authorization; set timezone and geolocation; make transparent images; resize output; cache with a TTL; create signed links for public image tags; submit asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks; capture 100 URLs per call; query usage; and download an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, easing migration.

Before each capture it accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets. Each response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers so your accounting can distinguish clean captures from non-billable failures or cache hits.

ScreenshotOne: predictable tiers, with feature gates

ScreenshotOne documents both GET and POST requests. Its documentation recommends HTTPS because plain HTTP exposes API keys, headers, cookies and other sensitive data in transit. Full-page algorithms and output controls are described in its options documentation. Growth and Scale list scrolling screenshots, video generation and location choice, while GPU rendering and priority support are listed on Scale. Confirm whether a required feature is available on your chosen tier before migrating.

When its model fits

  • You can map monthly demand to 2,000, 10,000 or 50,000 included screenshots.
  • Your peak traffic fits 40, 80 or 150 RPM, or you can queue jobs.
  • Overage pricing is preferable to stopping at a hard cap.

Urlbox: API plans versus CaptureDeck

Urlbox’s API supports URL or HTML input, viewport width and height, full-page mode and selector capture (API reference). Its full-page documentation describes “stitch” as the default: the browser scrolls, triggers lazy-loaded elements and combines sections. Fixed or sticky elements can therefore appear repeatedly in stitched sections. “Native” mode is faster but may be less accurate on some sites.

CaptureDeck is a separate managed bulk-capture offering, not an RPM multiplier for the API. Its plans describe batches of up to 50, 100, 300 or 10,000 webpages at a time, with monthly allowances and scheduled captures (bulk pricing). Choose it when non-developers need scheduled, large-list jobs; choose the API when your application owns queueing, retries and per-request options.

Full-page accuracy, speed and cost

Lazy loading and long pages

Test pages with images or components that appear only after scrolling. A stitched algorithm can trigger those elements, but it takes multiple browser passes and may duplicate sticky navigation. Native full-page capture can be faster while missing site-specific behavior. ScreenshotNeo’s full-page mode explicitly loads lazy images; still validate very long documents for memory, timing and output dimensions.

Dynamic and personalized pages

Use waits for a selector, network idle or a fixed delay rather than assuming the DOM is ready at initial load. Supply cookies, Authorization headers, timezone and geolocation when the page differs by visitor context. Hide volatile selectors such as timestamps only when that matches your intended record.

Cache and retries

Define a cache TTL for assets that do not change frequently. Queue retries with exponential backoff for transient network failures, but do not blindly retry bot checks or deterministic 4xx responses. ScreenshotNeo’s verdict and billing headers let you avoid charging internal teams for failed or cached work; other vendors’ overage accounting should be checked in their contracts.

Migration and proof-of-concept checklist

  1. Export a representative URL set: short and very long pages, lazy-loaded images, cookie banners, authenticated views, sticky headers and known bot-protected sites.
  2. Run Browshot and each candidate with identical viewport, device scale, full-page setting, wait strategy and output format.
  3. Measure p50 and p95 completion time, usable-image rate, timeout rate, repeated sticky elements, missing content and actual billed renders.
  4. Replay the test at your expected concurrency and peak RPM; include retries and cache hits in the cost model.
  5. Verify operational controls: webhooks, usage endpoints, response headers, request signing, API-key handling and data retention terms.
  6. Price the steady state and the worst monthly burst. Include overage rates, VAT, annual discounts and queue time—not just included screenshots.

Troubleshooting common scaling failures

Requests are throttled

Cause: RPM or concurrency exceeds the plan. Fix: add a queue and token-bucket limiter, then raise the plan only after measuring required throughput. Do not confuse monthly allowance with RPM.

Full pages are incomplete

Cause: lazy content, insufficient wait time or an algorithm mismatch. Fix: wait for a content selector or network idle, test stitch versus native where available, and compare output at the page’s natural breakpoints.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sticky navigation appears repeatedly

Cause: stitched scrolling captures the fixed element in each section. Fix: hide the selector if acceptable, use native mode where appropriate, or crop a targeted content element.

Images show consent dialogs or chat bubbles

Cause: cleanup is disabled or unsupported by the provider. Fix: enable consent and popup-removal steps where available, add hide selectors, and verify the resulting verdict. ScreenshotNeo performs this cleanup before capture.

Costs exceed the forecast

Cause: retries, uncached URLs, overage pricing or counting failed attempts as billable. Fix: log every response, cache stable pages, retry only transient errors and compare the provider’s billing semantics. ScreenshotNeo identifies verdict and billed status in response headers.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo gives you a single call instead of maintaining browser workers:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed, and response headers tell you the page verdict and billing result. An MCP server lets AI agents such as Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients call take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Review the API and MCP documentation, then sign up for the free plan.

Decision rule

Choose ScreenshotNeo first when clean, non-billable failure handling, broad per-capture controls, bulk calls or MCP access matter. Choose ScreenshotOne when its documented allowance/RPM tiers and feature gates fit your queue. Choose Urlbox when CaptureDeck’s managed scheduling or its stitch/native full-page choice solves a specific workflow. Keep Browshot in the comparison when its 10-URL, 10-instance batching or private-server architecture matches your existing design. In every case, make the final decision from a controlled run on your own URLs and concurrency profile, not from vendor capacity figures alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are monthly screenshots and RPM interchangeable?

No. Monthly renders describe allowance over a billing period; RPM describes request throughput. A plan can have a high allowance but a low burst rate, so size both.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Urlbox CaptureDeck replace the Urlbox API?

No. CaptureDeck is a separate managed bulk-capture workflow with batch and scheduling options; it should not be treated as an API RPM limit.

Which full-page mode should I use?

Test the page. Stitch mode can trigger lazy content but may repeat fixed elements; native mode is faster but can be less accurate on some sites.

How should I compare providers fairly?

Use the same URLs, viewport, waits, output and concurrency, then measure usable output, latency, failures, retries and billed renders.
