Use a full-page capture tool for a webpage and a frame-specific method for video. GoFullPage is the clearest starting point for one-click, scrollable webpage captures, while FireShot documents more capture modes and output options but requires checking its current browser-store listing and plan limits. A single YouTube frame is a different job: an older guide describes a dedicated YouTube screenshot extension, yet its current availability and behavior are not established, so verify the listing before installing. For occasional full-page work, Firefox’s built-in “Save full page” option may remove the need for an extension.
Choose by what you need to capture
“Screenshot” covers several different operations. A visible-viewport capture records only what is currently on screen. A selected-area capture records a rectangle you draw. A browser-window capture includes the browser frame, tabs, and controls. An entire-page capture scrolls through a document and stitches content that extends below the viewport. A video-frame capture freezes one moment from a player, ideally without playback controls or other interface elements.

Those modes overlap in name but not in technique. A full-page extension must control page scrolling and assemble multiple viewport images. A frame tool must pause or sample the player at a precise instant and avoid capturing controls. Treating them as interchangeable is the most common reason for a poor result.
| Task | Best starting point | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Capture an ordinary page from top to bottom | GoFullPage or Firefox’s native full-page screenshot | Whether the page’s custom scrolling, embedded content, and current browser version work correctly |
| Capture only a visible region | Browser-native screenshot controls or a multi-mode extension such as FireShot | Selection accuracy and whether the result is saved locally or uploaded |
| Capture a browser window including chrome | FireShot’s documented browser-window mode or the operating system’s window capture | Current support in the installed edition; the FireShot manual is from 2016 |
| Save one frame from a web video | A frame-specific video screenshot extension, if a current listing and privacy policy check out | Current availability, player compatibility, image quality, and whether controls are omitted |
| Capture a PDF shown in a tab | The PDF viewer’s own download or print tools | GoFullPage says its scrolling capture cannot access PDF documents |
Best options for full-webpage screenshots
GoFullPage: the simplest entire-page workflow
GoFullPage’s official site positions the extension around one-click, full-webpage screenshots. Its Chrome Web Store listing also contains dated release notes. A September 24, 2026 note says a change fixed a Chromium 153 URL requirement and improved dialogs. That is evidence of a dated Chromium-listing update, not a guarantee that every Chrome, Firefox, or Edge release will behave identically.

For a normal article, documentation page, or long thread, the workflow is intentionally short:
- Install the current listing from the browser’s official extension store after checking the developer identity, requested permissions, and privacy disclosure.
- Open the target page and wait until text, images, and lazy-loaded sections have finished loading.
- Activate GoFullPage from the extensions menu or its toolbar icon.
- Let the extension scroll and assemble the page; do not interact with the tab while it is working.
- Inspect the resulting image for seams, missing sections, fixed headers, and content that appeared only after scrolling.
- Save the final file locally in the formats offered by the current interface.
The extension is not a universal document scanner. Its FAQ says it cannot access PDF documents to perform scrolling. The same FAQ notes that some websites manage scrolling with custom JavaScript. A page can therefore look ordinary yet fail to move through its content when an extension sends normal scroll commands.
FireShot: multiple capture scopes and a documented editing workflow
The FireShot Pro manual describes four capture scopes: visible area, selected area, entire page, and browser window. It also documents editing and annotation, clipboard copying, printing, and saving to PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, or BMP. These categories are useful when you need one tool for several screenshot jobs rather than only a full-page stitch.
However, that manual is dated 2016 and includes legacy browsers and services. Use it as evidence that those feature categories were documented, not as a current promise about the extension’s interface, supported browsers, file formats, or free-versus-paid boundaries. Before installation, open the current store listing and confirm:

Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot
A July 8, 2020 Tom’s Hardware guide describes Firefox’s built-in “Save full page” screenshot flow. This can be the safest choice for a basic capture because it avoids adding an extension. Browser menus change, so confirm the exact command in the Firefox version you use rather than relying on an old sequence of clicks. If the command is present, use it for pages that do not require special scrolling behavior, then open the saved image and check the bottom of the document before sharing it.
Why full-page capture fails on real websites
Custom scrolling containers
Some sites place the document inside a panel with its own scrollbar while the outer page remains fixed. A tool that scrolls the window may repeatedly capture the same outer frame and miss the panel’s contents. Look for a visible inner scrollbar, a dashboard layout, or a chat pane that moves independently. If the extension offers a selected-element or region mode, target that container; otherwise, capture it in several viewport images and assemble them manually.
Lazy-loaded and animated content
Images, comments, and product cards may load only after they enter the viewport. Give the page time to populate before starting. Animations can produce different pixels in each stitched segment, while sticky navigation bars can appear repeatedly. Pause media and, where possible, disable motion or wait for transitions to finish. Always inspect the seam between segments instead of assuming a successful download is a complete record.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPDFs and embedded documents
GoFullPage’s FAQ specifically says that PDF documents cannot be accessed for scrolling capture. For a PDF opened in a browser tab, download the original file, use the viewer’s print or export function, or capture individual pages with the browser or operating system. An extension designed for HTML scrolling should not be treated as a PDF conversion tool.
Restricted or protected content
Login walls, cross-origin frames, DRM-protected media, and pages that deliberately block copying can prevent an extension from reading pixels or injecting its capture script. Do not attempt to bypass access controls. Capture only content you are authorized to use, and check the site’s terms before redistributing an image.

Capturing a single frame from a browser video
Why a video-frame tool is different
A full-page extension is built to scroll a document, not to sample a player at an exact timestamp. It may capture the page around the video, include the player’s controls, or stitch a moving image into an unusable result. For a clean frame, pause the video at the desired moment, hide controls, and capture only the player or the frame area.
What the available evidence supports
The Tom’s Hardware guide dated July 8, 2020 identifies a YouTube screenshot extension as a way to capture an individual frame without player controls. That is secondary, dated information. Current store availability, developer identity, permissions, compatibility with today’s YouTube player, and output quality were not established by that guide. Search the official Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons site, or Edge Add-ons catalog immediately before installing, and do not assume that a similarly named listing is the same product.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Microsoft maintains a current Edge Add-ons screenshot catalog that can help you inspect available screenshot categories. A catalog result is not a recommendation: read the listing’s update date, user-facing permissions, privacy policy, and support notes.
A reliable frame-capture sequence
- Open the video at the page and resolution you are permitted to use.
- Move the pointer away from the player and pause at the target moment. If the controls remain visible, wait for them to fade or use the player’s full-screen control only if that improves the crop.
- Use a frame-specific extension if its current listing explicitly supports the player you are using. Otherwise use the browser or operating system’s area screenshot and crop to the video rectangle.
- Check the image at 100% size. Look for motion blur, a black frame caused by a transition, subtitles or controls you did not intend to include, and a resolution lower than the player’s displayed size.
- Save a local copy with a meaningful filename that includes the video title and timestamp. Keep the source URL separately so the frame can be identified later.
Do not claim that GoFullPage or FireShot provides frame-specific video capture based on the evidence above. Their documented or advertised emphasis is webpage capture; frame behavior would need confirmation in the current product listing.

Output formats, editing, and where your image goes
Image versus PDF
A PNG is normally preferable for text, interface screenshots, and diagrams because it preserves sharp edges without introducing JPEG compression. JPEG can produce smaller files for photographic video frames but may blur fine text. PDF is useful when a long page must be printed or sent as a document, provided the current tool actually offers PDF export. FireShot’s 2016 manual lists PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, and BMP; verify which of those remain available today.
Editing before sharing
Crop away unrelated tabs and personal information. Use a solid blur or opaque redaction for email addresses, account numbers, access tokens, and private messages; a translucent brush can leave text recoverable. If you need arrows, labels, or highlights, choose a tool whose current edition explicitly includes annotation. Do not infer editing support from a third-party screenshot or an old manual.

“Save” can mean different things. A download saves a file to your device. Clipboard output places pixels in another application. Print may create a PDF through the operating system. Some services upload an image for sharing. Before capturing confidential pages, determine which path the extension uses, whether an account is required, and whether the privacy policy says page content leaves your browser. Troubleshooting: diagnose the capture instead of repeating it
The result stops halfway down
- Check whether the page uses an inner scrolling panel.
- Wait for lazy-loaded sections before starting again.
- Disable overlays, cookie dialogs, or sticky elements that intercept scrolling.
- Try the browser’s native full-page command for a simple HTML document.
- If the target is a PDF, use the PDF file or viewer tools rather than a webpage scroller.
The image has repeated headers or blank bands
Sticky headers and fixed banners can be captured in every segment. Look for an extension setting that hides fixed elements; if none exists, crop the repeated bands or capture smaller sections. Blank bands often indicate that content had not finished rendering, a script changed the page height, or a cross-origin frame could not be read.
The video frame includes controls or is blurry
Pause first, move the pointer away, and wait for the controls to disappear. Choose a moment without a fade, seek animation, or rapid motion. If the player is displayed at a small size, enlarge it before capturing; enlarging the saved image later cannot restore detail that was never recorded.
The extension will not run on a page
Browser store policies may restrict extensions on internal browser pages, store pages, local files, or protected frames. Test a normal public HTML page to separate a site restriction from an installation problem. If the extension asks for a new permission after an update, reread the listing and privacy policy before granting it.
A practical decision guide
Choose GoFullPage when
- Your main requirement is a one-click capture of a conventional, scrollable HTML page.
- You can test the target site for custom scrolling and delayed content.
- You are comfortable verifying the current Chrome listing and permissions before use.
Choose FireShot when
- You need several scopes—visible, selected, entire page, or browser window—in one workflow.
- Current documentation confirms the editing or export features you need.
- You have checked how the present edition divides free and paid functionality.
Choose a native browser or operating-system tool when
- You capture only occasionally and want to minimize extension permissions.
- Firefox’s current interface offers “Save full page” for your document.
- You need a quick selected-region image or a paused video frame rather than an automated scroll.
Choose a video-specific extension only after verification
- The official store currently lists it for your browser.
- The listing clearly states which player or sites it supports.
- Permissions and privacy handling are acceptable for the material you will capture.
- You have tested a non-sensitive video and confirmed that controls are omitted and the saved frame is sharp.
Final checklist before you share a capture
- Confirm that you captured the intended scope: viewport, selection, window, full page, or one frame.
- Open the file and inspect every section, including the bottom of a long page.
- Remove private data, tokens, addresses, and unrelated browser tabs.
- Check the file type, dimensions, and readability at its intended viewing size.
- Record the source page and capture date when the image needs to be auditable.
- Make sure your use complies with the page’s terms, copyright rules, and any workplace policy.
The most dependable setup is usually two tools rather than one: a full-page method for scrollable documents and a frame-specific or manual area capture for video. Recheck store listings, permissions, browser compatibility, and privacy terms because those details can change independently of the screenshot technique itself.
