There is no single best CityFibre broadband provider for every address. CityFibre builds and operates the wholesale full-fibre network, while an internet service provider (ISP) sells you the package, supplies the router and manages your contract. The providers and speeds you can order depend on the exact property, so start with CityFibre’s address checker, then compare the live offers for price, upload speed, contract terms, equipment and support.
What CityFibre is—and why the ISP still matters
CityFibre is a wholesale fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network operator, not a retail broadband company. Its fibre normally runs all the way to the building, avoiding the copper final section used by part-fibre services. CityFibre says it works with more than 30 broadband providers and is rolling out a purpose-built network to 8 million UK homes and businesses. The ISP you choose remains your contractual provider: it bills you, handles faults and complaints, sets the package price, and decides which router or mesh equipment is included.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That separation explains why two homes on the same street can see different offers. An ISP may have opened sales in one exchange area but not another, may sell only selected speed tiers, or may pause orders while installation capacity is full. CityFibre’s directory is useful for discovering providers, but it cannot confirm service at your property.

Check your address before comparing providers
Use the address or postcode checker before relying on any national list. CityFibre’s directory was marked as last updated 15 June 2026, and its own guidance says the checker becomes authoritative only once the network is built at a property. Follow this order:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Enter the complete postcode, then select your exact address, flat or business unit. Do not assume that a nearby house has the same result.
- Record whether the result says the service is live, available to order, coming soon or unavailable. Note any stated installation date.
- Open each provider’s offer from the result and save the actual monthly price, speed tier, contract length, setup charge and any promotional end date.
- Check the estimated download and upload speeds, not just the largest download number in an advert.
- Read the pre-contract information for annual price increases, cancellation charges, minimum-term rules and what happens if installation is delayed.
If the checker shows no service, a provider’s general CityFibre page cannot override that result. Recheck after the stated rollout date and look at alternative fixed-line or wireless services in the meantime.
Providers currently listed on CityFibre
The current directory names the following retail providers. The list is dynamic; inclusion means a provider works with CityFibre somewhere, not that it serves every listed town or every property.

TalkTalk: a broad mainstream option with up to 900 Mbps advertised
TalkTalk says its CityFibre Full Fibre service is live in more than 100 towns and cities. Its current CityFibre page advertises packages from 65 Mbps to 900 Mbps and average speeds up to 900 Mbps. It also describes connecting up to 128 devices, which is useful context for a busy household with phones, televisions, consoles, cameras and work equipment.
Those are advertised ranges, not a promise that every TalkTalk customer can order 900 Mbps. Your postcode determines which tiers are sold, and the speed delivered over Wi‑Fi depends on the router, room layout and device capability. Check the exact monthly price, minimum term, annual increase and installation date at checkout. TalkTalk also advertises television bundling; compare the total cost if you need a broadband-and-TV package rather than broadband alone.

Zen: the highest advertised speed in this comparison
Zen advertises CityFibre services with download and upload speeds up to 2.5 Gbps. Its explanation of CityFibre FTTP correctly describes fibre running all the way to the home, and it states that availability varies by address. Zen names Aberdeen, Bolton, Bradford, Cambridge, Coventry, Leeds, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and York, followed by “and many more locations.”
Zen positions the service around UK-based support and says it has been a Which? Recommended Provider for Broadband for six consecutive years; that is the provider’s own statement, not an independent finding established here. A 2.5 Gbps tier is relevant only if your address qualifies and your home network can use it. You need a suitable router, at least one multi-gigabit Ethernet path for full wired performance, and client devices capable of more than 1 Gbps. Ordinary Wi‑Fi devices will not automatically reach the headline rate.

CityFibre names Vodafone and Sky among its partner providers. Their retail offers, speed tiers, prices, contract terms and equipment can vary by postcode, so neither can be ranked nationally from the available information. If either appears for your address, compare its live offer with the other results rather than assuming that the brand name guarantees better performance.
YouFibre and regional providers: potentially strong local fits
YouFibre and dozens of regional ISPs appear in the directory. A local provider may offer a useful upload tier, a shorter support route or service in a new-build area before larger brands arrive. It may also have narrower coverage, different installation arrangements or fewer router and television options. Check business-hours support, fault targets, equipment replacement, contract exit terms and whether the quoted price is introductory or ongoing.
Compare the numbers that affect your household
| Published figure | What it means | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 65–900 Mbps | TalkTalk’s advertised package range on its CityFibre page | Packages and availability depend on the exact location; the figure is an advertised range, not a universal orderable choice. |
| Up to 900 Mbps average speed | TalkTalk’s top advertised average download speed | Actual Wi‑Fi performance varies with equipment, radio conditions and device limits. |
| Up to 2.5 Gbps download and upload | Zen’s advertised maximum CityFibre tier | Address eligibility and compatible multi-gigabit home networking are required. |
| More than 100 towns and cities | TalkTalk’s stated CityFibre footprint | It describes the service footprint, not guaranteed availability at every address in those places. |
Download capacity controls how quickly a large file arrives or how many high-resolution streams can run at once. Upload capacity matters for cloud backups, video calls, sending large files, livestreaming and working with remote servers. Two packages with the same download speed can feel different if one has a much lower upload rate.

Choose a speed tier by use case
One or two light users
Email, browsing, music and occasional HD video usually do not require the highest tier. Prioritise a fair ongoing price, a reliable router and reasonable support rather than paying for capacity you will not use.
Streaming households
Several simultaneous 4K streams, game downloads and smart-home devices increase peak demand. A mid-to-high tier can reduce contention inside your home, but Wi‑Fi coverage is often the limiting factor. Check whether the supplied router supports modern Wi‑Fi and whether mesh nodes cost extra.
Gamers
Gaming responsiveness depends more on latency, jitter, packet loss and a wired or well-positioned wireless connection than on a headline 2.5 Gbps download rate. Ask the provider about the router’s Ethernet ports, bridge or modem mode, IPv6 support and any traffic-management policy. Connect a console or gaming PC by Ethernet where practical, and place the router in an open central position.
Home workers and creators
Frequent video meetings, VPN use, large uploads and cloud synchronisation make upload speed and stability important. Check the advertised upload tier, the provider’s fault-reporting process and whether the router can prioritise work devices. A mesh system can remove dead zones, but it cannot repair a line fault or create more upstream capacity.
Very large or multi-gigabit homes
Zen’s advertised 2.5 Gbps option is aimed at addresses and networks that can exploit multi-gigabit service. Confirm that the optical network terminal, router WAN port, switches, Ethernet cabling and key devices support 2.5GbE or faster. If most devices connect over older Wi‑Fi or 1GbE, a lower tier may deliver the same practical experience for less money.

Commercial terms to check at checkout
Headline prices can conceal the most important differences. Save a copy of the pre-contract summary and verify:
- Ongoing monthly price: distinguish the introductory period from the price after it ends.
- Annual price rises: record the date, formula and whether the increase is a fixed amount or inflation-linked.
- Minimum term: note the length and the early-termination charge calculation.
- Installation and activation: check one-off fees, engineer requirements and the appointment window.
- Service guarantee: see whether compensation or a right to leave applies if installation misses the promised date.
- Equipment: confirm whether the router is included, rented, returnable or locked to the provider, and whether mesh units are optional.
- Bundles: price television, phone or security add-ons separately if you do not need them.
- Cancellation: establish the cooling-off period, return process for equipment and any charges after service activation.
Router, Wi‑Fi and installation considerations
Full fibre to the home does not make every room a gigabit room. The fibre terminates at an optical network terminal or integrated unit, then your router distributes service over Ethernet and Wi‑Fi. Thick walls, neighbouring networks, appliance interference and poor router placement can reduce throughput.
Before ordering, ask whether the ISP supplies a router with gigabit or multi-gigabit Ethernet, Wi‑Fi 6 or a newer standard, guest networking and IPv6. Confirm whether you may use your own router and whether the ISP provides the authentication details or requires its equipment. If you plan to add mesh, check wired backhaul support; wireless backhaul can consume some of the available radio capacity.
On installation day, keep the path to the preferred router location clear and ensure an adult is present if the provider requires access. The engineer may need to attach an external fibre box, route a cable through the wall and place the termination point near a power socket. Ask where the internal cable will run before work starts.
How to make a fair postcode comparison
- Collect every live result: write down provider, package name, download, upload, monthly price, setup fee and contract term.
- Normalise the price: calculate the total cost over the minimum term, including one-off fees and any unavoidable add-ons.
- Separate promotional and permanent pricing: show the post-promotion monthly amount in your notes.
- Score performance needs: give extra weight to upload speed for backups, creators and remote work; give extra weight to latency and Ethernet options for gaming.
- Check equipment fit: verify router Wi‑Fi, Ethernet speed, mesh availability and own-router policy.
- Review support: compare contact channels, opening hours, fault escalation and any service-level commitments.
- Choose the lowest-cost package that meets the real requirement: reserve multi-gigabit pricing for homes whose devices and usage can benefit from it.
Common problems and practical fixes
The checker says “coming soon”
Do not place an order on the assumption that a nearby property is live. Record the stated date, check again after it passes and keep an existing service until the new installation is confirmed.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
A provider appears in the directory but not for your address
The directory is a network-wide list. A provider may not have capacity, retail coverage or a commercial agreement for your specific property. Use the address result rather than contacting providers that the checker does not show.
The wired test is fast but Wi‑Fi is slow
Test with a modern device connected by Ethernet directly to the router. If wired speed is close to the package rate, move the router into an open, central location, select a less congested channel where the router allows it, update firmware and consider wired-backhaul mesh. If wired speed is also low, report the issue to the ISP with the test time and device details.
Installation is delayed
Ask the ISP for the reason, a revised appointment and the terms of any missed-installation compensation or cancellation right. Keep written confirmation and do not cancel a working connection until the replacement is active unless you have a documented contingency.
The service drops repeatedly
Record dates, times, router status lights and whether all devices are affected. Restarting the router may clear a temporary fault, but repeated drops require the ISP to test the line and the optical equipment. Ask for an engineer visit if remote diagnostics cannot identify the cause.
Verdict: which CityFibre provider should you pick?
Start with the address checker, not a brand ranking. TalkTalk is the clearest mainstream option in the published material, with advertised CityFibre availability in more than 100 towns and cities and tiers from 65 to 900 Mbps. Zen has the highest advertised ceiling at up to 2.5 Gbps in both directions, but the value of that tier depends on address eligibility and a multi-gigabit home network. Vodafone, Sky, YouFibre and the regional ISPs are valid alternatives wherever the checker lists them; the available evidence does not establish a nationwide winner among them.
After filtering for your actual address, choose the package whose upload and download speeds, router, support and total contract cost match your household. Recheck the offer immediately before ordering because CityFibre coverage, provider participation and retail prices can change.
