Best Boltgun 2 Settings for Finding Secrets and Exploring Levels

By Freedom251 Team · · 12 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The most effective Boltgun 2 exploration setup is a stable 1080p/60 FPS target, Camera Comfort enabled when recoil or screen shake obscures rooms, separate audio sliders for music, effects and voices, and remapped controls that put movement, dash or slide, the map and the objective hint within easy reach. During play, check the map after every major fight, inspect elevation changes, search side corridors before passing an objective gate, and use the optional yellow dotted hint only when you have genuinely lost the route. For secret hunting, choose the character whose movement you can control while looking around: Malum Caedo is the more durable heavy-weapon option, while Nyra Veyrath trades toughness for speed and mobility.

Boltgun 2 launched on October 14, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The guidance below reflects launch information and may need checking against your current build after patches.

Use this baseline before your first exploration run

Start with performance and visibility rather than chasing a cinematic preset. A consistent frame rate makes it easier to notice a narrow passage, follow a moving platform, line up an interaction, and read the map while under pressure. Select the quality tier that matches your graphics hardware and aim for 1080p at 60 frames per second when that is your display target.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Setting or control Recommended starting point Why it helps exploration
Graphics quality Use the tier that can hold your target frame rate; 1080p/60 FPS is the practical launch target Stable motion makes scanning rooms and judging hazards more reliable than a higher preset with uneven performance.
Camera Comfort On if recoil, shake or camera motion makes visual searching difficult Reduces visual distraction while you inspect corners, platforms and interactable objects.
Difficulty Normal for a first completionist attempt, or an easier setting if combat repeatedly interrupts your searches Less pressure gives you time to investigate branches and test environmental interactions.
Volume Use Custom Volume Controls; set effects and voices high enough to hear cues, then balance music separately Combat audio should not drown out sounds that help you orient yourself or recognize an interaction.
Controls Remap map, objective hint, movement and dash or slide to immediately reachable inputs Navigation tools are useful only if you can open them without taking your attention away from movement.
FOV, sensitivity and brightness Begin at the display and input defaults, then adjust in small increments No single numeric value is established as best for every monitor, controller, mouse or seating distance.

Do not treat a published number as a universal answer for FOV, aim sensitivity or brightness. The useful target is functional: enough peripheral view to understand a room, sensitivity low enough for controlled aim, and brightness high enough that dark corners remain readable without washing out contrast.

Match the PC preset to your hardware

The launch PC requirements reported by Tutorial.Games list Windows 10 or 11 in 64-bit form and 8 GB of RAM. The reported GPU tiers begin with a GeForce GTX 980, Radeon R9 Fury or Intel Arc A580 for the Low target, and a GeForce GTX 1650 or Radeon RX 570 for the High target. These are launch targets rather than a promise for every later patch, so verify the current store-page requirements if your build has changed.

Launch requirement information Reported hardware Exploration implication
Operating system Windows 10/11, 64-bit Keep the operating system and graphics driver current enough for the version you are running.
Memory 8 GB RAM Close unnecessary background applications if the game stutters while loading connected areas.
Low graphics target GTX 980, Radeon R9 Fury or Arc A580 class Use this as the lower launch reference when prioritizing a stable frame rate.
High graphics target GTX 1650 or RX 570 class Use this as the higher launch reference, then lower effects if frame pacing becomes uneven.

The apparent ordering of the listed GPU examples should not be interpreted as a precise performance ranking; they are the launch requirement examples reported for each tier. If a room becomes difficult to read because of hitching, reduce the setting that causes frame-time spikes before increasing brightness or sensitivity. A smooth camera is more useful for finding a hidden chain or button than extra visual effects.

Make the camera and display comfortable for searching

Turn on Camera Comfort when motion hides details

Camera Comfort is the first setting to test if recoil, screen shake or rapid camera movement makes it hard to scan. Enable it, replay a busy encounter, and check whether you can keep your crosshair on a doorway or pillar while moving. Leave it off only if the unmodified presentation remains comfortable and does not make you overlook environmental details. This is a visibility decision, not a difficulty exploit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Set brightness for dark corners, not for a brighter-looking game

No source establishes a best brightness number for every display. Adjust it while looking at an area that contains both a lit surface and a shadowed corner. Raise it until the corner’s shape and any nearby object are distinguishable, then stop before blacks become gray. Recheck after changing the display’s own HDR, gamma or contrast mode; a monitor setting can change the result more than a small in-game adjustment.

Adjust FOV and sensitivity by a repeatable test

There is no universally correct FOV or sensitivity value for Boltgun 2. For FOV, use a room with nearby walls and a distant target: increase the field of view until peripheral routes are easy to read without making objects uncomfortably distorted. For sensitivity, perform a short turn, stop on a doorway, and repeat while tracking a small target. Lower the value if you routinely overshoot an opening; raise it if turning between a map marker and a threat requires repeated lifts or large stick movements. Change one setting at a time so you know which adjustment helped.

Configure audio so combat does not erase navigation cues

Boltgun 2 includes Custom Volume Controls. Separate music, sound effects and voice levels instead of leaving one master slider to determine everything. Keep effects and voices prominent enough to hear combat changes, warnings and contextual sounds, then lower music if it masks those cues. If you use headphones, test the mix in a quiet corridor as well as in a large fight: a setting that sounds balanced during combat may still hide a subtle interaction sound when you are searching a side room.

Audio should support, not replace, visual checks. A sound can tell you that an encounter or interaction is nearby, but the map and room geometry still determine whether you have explored every branch. Pause the game and adjust the mix whenever you notice yourself using repeated blind turns because you cannot distinguish important sounds.

Put exploration tools on reachable controls

On PC, Boltgun 2 supports mouse-and-keyboard play and full controller input. The Xbox review reports remappable controls, so use the binding screen to build a layout that suits your hand rather than accepting a default that forces you to release movement. Exact sensitivity numbers are personal; no universal preset has been published.

  1. Keep movement continuous. Put forward, strafe and reverse movement where your primary hand can operate them without reaching across the keyboard or lifting your thumb from the stick.
  2. Make dash or slide immediate. Exploration often turns into a sudden traversal or escape. A reachable input lets you test a gap or leave a hazard without fumbling.
  3. Assign the map to a deliberate but fast input. You should be able to open it after a fight and close it before entering the next room without navigating a submenu.
  4. Assign the objective hint separately. Keep the hint available when lost, but do not place it where an accidental press interrupts movement or combat.
  5. Test the bindings in a safe area. Confirm that opening the map, requesting the hint and returning to movement do not conflict with weapon switching or interaction.

Controller users should favor a layout that allows a quick map check while keeping the movement stick ready. Mouse users can place map and hint commands on nearby keys or side buttons, provided those buttons are not easy to press accidentally during a fight.

Use a map-and-hint loop instead of wandering

Boltgun 2 has branching routes, a multi-level map and 33 missions, according to GamingTrend’s 2026 coverage. The game also offers an optional yellow dotted objective hint. The hint is a route aid, not a secret detector: it points toward the current objective but does not replace checking unexplored branches.

  1. Finish the immediate fight, then stop. Do not sprint through the next doorway while your sense of direction is still based on the previous arena.
  2. Open the map. Identify your current position, the objective direction and any side corridor or level change you have not visited.
  3. Read elevation. Inspect the map’s different layers before assuming a line is walkable. A marker above or below you may require a stair, lift, drop or loop rather than a straight run.
  4. Trace the unvisited branches. Before crossing an objective gate, check nearby side corridors and dead-end-looking spaces. This is the safest time to search because the gate can change your context or trigger a one-way sequence.
  5. Use the yellow dotted hint only when necessary. If you cannot identify the route, follow the dots until you regain a known landmark, then stop relying on them and resume branch checking.
  6. Reopen the map after a transition. A level change, teleport, scripted event or large arena can invalidate your mental picture. Reorient before committing to the next objective.

This loop balances discovery and efficiency. Following the hint constantly can lead you straight to the mission goal while leaving optional corridors untouched; refusing to use it at all can turn a vertical branch into an unnecessary backtrack.

Where Boltgun 2 hides secrets

Secrets include power-ups and hidden Purity Seals. They are often earned through environmental interaction rather than by simply walking through an arena. Search for a reason to interact whenever a room contains an object that does not serve an obvious combat purpose.

Check these environmental patterns

  • Interactable chains: a chain can signal a mechanism, release or route that is not visible from the floor.
  • Pillars: inspect all sides, not just the face that points toward the objective. A pillar can conceal an interaction or a line of sight to another mechanism.
  • Buttons: test isolated controls after clearing nearby threats, then watch for a door, platform, crate or hazard that changes state.
  • Suspended crates: look above your normal crosshair level and consider whether a raised object can be moved, shot, reached or used as part of a route.
  • Hazardous machinery: machinery that appears to be scenery may be part of a puzzle or a way to remove a dangerous enemy. Approach only after identifying the hazard’s timing and escape path.
  • Routes without a combat reason: a corridor that does not lead toward an arena can still be the correct path to a Purity Seal or power-up. Treat unusual geometry as a clue rather than wasted space.

Search in a safe order

  1. Clear or weaken threats that can interrupt an interaction.
  2. Circle the room’s perimeter and look at floor, wall and overhead levels.
  3. Compare what you can see with the map, including elevation and side branches.
  4. Test nearby chains, pillars and buttons one at a time.
  5. Watch for environmental changes, newly opened routes, buffs or removed enemies.
  6. Only then move through the objective gate or leave the area.

Environmental interaction can reveal a buff or remove a difficult enemy, so secret hunting is not merely a collectible exercise. It can change the combat conditions of the route ahead. If an interaction appears dangerous, mark its location mentally, clear the room, and return rather than abandoning it.

Choose the character that fits your search style

Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath have materially different movement, durability and weapon identities. Neither is an objectively best explorer for every player. The better choice is the profile you can control while dividing attention between movement, threats and room inspection.

Character Strengths relevant to exploration Trade-offs Best fit
Malum Caedo Sturdier profile and heavy-weapon identity Less emphasis on rapid repositioning than Nyra Players who want more forgiveness while checking rooms and prefer to hold ground during searches.
Nyra Veyrath Faster, more mobile movement with sliding, a sword, flamer and melta tools Requires more deliberate movement control while scanning and fighting Players who use speed to cross gaps, disengage from threats and investigate branches quickly.

When Malum is the safer first choice

Pick Malum if you often lose health while stopping to inspect a room or if heavy weapons let you secure an arena before searching. His sturdier identity gives you more room to make a wrong turn, retreat and re-enter. Keep movement disciplined: durability does not make a dead end or an unexamined upper level disappear.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When Nyra is the better exploration tool

Pick Nyra if you naturally read the environment while moving and can use sliding and rapid repositioning without overshooting a doorway. Her sword, flamer and melta options give her different answers at close and medium range, while mobility helps you leave a hazard or reach a route before enemies regroup. If speed causes you to run past interaction points, lower sensitivity or slow down at every branch.

Set difficulty around your completion goal

Boltgun 2 includes Adjustable Difficulty. Use a lower setting if repeated deaths force you to rush through rooms, because a secret run fails when combat pressure prevents observation. Use a higher setting only when you can still clear encounters deliberately and retain enough attention for map checks. Difficulty changes how much time and risk you can spend exploring; it does not make the map or hint unnecessary.

Windows Central estimates an average Normal playthrough at 6–10 hours, depending on collectible hunting. Treat that as a planning range, not a timer. A direct objective run can be shorter, while checking every branch, testing interactions and revisiting missed areas can extend it. Replay and level-select options support cleanup, so you do not need to restart the entire campaign after discovering that one Purity Seal was missed.

Resolve common navigation problems

What you notice Likely cause What to do
The objective marker seems close, but no route reaches it You are viewing a different elevation layer or approaching from the wrong side Open the map, inspect the layers and locate the stair, lift, drop or loop that connects them.
You keep returning to the same arena A branching corridor or one-way transition was overlooked After the next fight, trace every unvisited side branch before crossing the objective gate.
You arrive at the goal but miss secrets The yellow hint led you past optional spaces Use level select or replay, then search perimeter routes, overhead objects and interaction points before advancing.
Screen motion makes details disappear Recoil or camera shake is obscuring your scan Enable Camera Comfort, retest in a busy encounter and adjust sensitivity if you still overshoot turns.
You cannot hear useful cues Music or combat effects are masking voices or contextual sounds Open Custom Volume Controls and rebalance music, effects and voices separately.
You repeatedly pass an interaction The control is hard to reach or you are moving too quickly Remap interaction and movement tools, slow at room edges, and inspect chains, pillars, buttons and machinery from multiple angles.
Performance drops while searching The selected quality tier is exceeding your hardware’s stable frame-time budget Lower the quality tier or demanding effects and prioritize consistent frame pacing over visual fidelity.

A practical first-run plan

  1. Before starting: choose the quality tier that matches your hardware, set a stable display target, enable Camera Comfort if motion bothers you, and configure Custom Volume Controls.
  2. Before the first mission: remap map and objective hint inputs, verify dash or slide, and test the full control layout on your chosen character.
  3. At every arena: clear enough enemies to search safely, then inspect the perimeter, overhead space and map layers.
  4. At every branch: explore the side route before the objective gate unless the game clearly makes it one-way; use the hint only to recover orientation.
  5. At every suspicious object: test chains, pillars, buttons, suspended crates and machinery, then observe what changes.
  6. After finishing a mission: note any unvisited map branch and use replay or level select for cleanup rather than relying on memory alone.

Creative Director Aaron Ashbrooke said, “I want people to be surprised whenever they play a level.” The best settings support that design goal: stable performance, readable camera motion, clear audio and quick map access leave your attention available for the unexpected route or interaction instead of making you fight the interface.

What may change after launch

The October 14, 2026 release covers PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, but platform menus, performance targets and individual setting labels can change with patches. The PC hardware examples and 1080p/60 FPS target above describe launch information. If your version adds a setting, changes a control screen or behaves differently, use the current in-game labels and re-test the camera, audio and map workflow in a safe area before beginning a completionist run.
