You cannot pair a regular Bluetooth speaker directly with a PS5. Sony says the console blocks Bluetooth Audio because of possible latency and bandwidth problems. The practical workaround is a USB Bluetooth transmitter: connect it to the PS5, select it as the audio output, and pair your speaker with the transmitter.
For a USB-A port, the Avantree DG60P is the strongest candidate in this shortlist. For a USB-C connection, consider the Avantree C81-Gaming or UGREEN 80894. All range and latency figures below are manufacturer claims, not independent laboratory measurements, and Sony does not guarantee third-party adapter compatibility or performance.

Why a PS5 needs a Bluetooth transmitter
PS5 consoles do not offer native Bluetooth speaker pairing. In its support explanation, last modified September 15, 2026, Sony says “the reason the PS5 doesn’t support Bluetooth Audio connections is because of possible latency performance and bandwidth.” The same restriction applies to ordinary Bluetooth speakers, even if they pair perfectly with a phone or laptop.
A transmitter acts as a USB audio device that the PS5 can recognize. It receives game sound from the console and sends that sound over Bluetooth to the speaker. This is different from pairing a speaker in the PS5’s Bluetooth accessories menu: the console still sees the transmitter as its output device, while the transmitter manages the wireless speaker connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sony lists a third-party Bluetooth adapter as an alternative, but it does not promise that every adapter will work or that performance will be consistent. Firmware updates, USB power behavior, codec support and the speaker itself can all affect the result.

How to choose the right PS5 transmitter
Match the USB connector to your console
The PS5 has both USB-A and USB-C ports, but their location and availability depend on whether you are using the front or rear of the console and on what other accessories are connected. DG60P is a USB-A transmitter. C81-Gaming and UGREEN 80894 are USB-C designs. Check the connector in the product listing and confirm whether a USB adapter is included; a physically incompatible plug will prevent setup even when the transmitter is otherwise suitable.
Match the codec at both ends
Bluetooth 5.0 or 5.3 describes the radio generation, not guaranteed gaming delay. The transmitter and speaker must share a codec for that codec to be used. aptX Low Latency, aptX Adaptive and similar modes can reduce delay when both devices support the same mode. If the speaker only supports SBC, the connection may fall back to SBC with noticeably more delay.
Avantree claims that C81-Gaming can reach 55 ms or less with compatible aptX Low Latency or aptX Adaptive equipment. Its support information warns that a speaker or headset without aptX Adaptive can show more delay. Treat those numbers as the maker’s conditions-based claim, not a promise for every speaker, game or room.

Decide whether you need one or two speakers connected
UGREEN 80894 lists dual pairing, so it is the relevant option when you want to connect two Bluetooth receivers at once. Dual pairing divides the transmitter’s available bandwidth and can change synchronization or delay. For one gaming speaker, a single connection is simpler and usually easier to troubleshoot.
Check microphone and chat requirements
Many USB transmitters send audio only. C81-Gaming is explicitly transmit-only, so it does not provide a return microphone channel for party or game chat. Plan to use the DualSense microphone, a wired headset, or another separately supported microphone if you need voice chat. A speaker that has a built-in microphone does not automatically make a transmit-only USB adapter bidirectional.

PlayStation Link accessories use Sony’s proprietary PlayStation Link USB adapter. They should not be described as generic Bluetooth transmitters, and their compatibility behavior is different from that of a standard Bluetooth dongle. PULSE Elevate can also handle Bluetooth-device audio, but it is an integrated speaker solution rather than a way to transmit to any Bluetooth speaker you already own.
Model-by-model guidance
Avantree DG60P: best USB-A candidate
DG60P is the straightforward choice when you want to use a USB-A port. Avantree lists PS5 and PS4 compatibility, Bluetooth 5.3, A2DP and AVRCP profiles, and support for aptX Adaptive, aptX-HD, aptX-LL, aptX and SBC. Its stated operating range is up to 50 m in an open area. Walls, furniture and radio interference can reduce usable distance, so the open-area figure should not be treated as an indoor guarantee.
The basic workflow is simple: plug DG60P into the PS5, put the speaker into pairing mode, pair the two devices, and choose “Avantree DG60P” under the PS5’s audio-output settings. Because the product offers several codecs, it is a good fit when your speaker’s specification explicitly lists aptX Adaptive or aptX Low Latency. If your speaker supports only SBC, the transmitter cannot create a low-latency codec that the speaker lacks.

Avantree C81-Gaming: compact USB-C candidate
C81-Gaming is a USB-C Bluetooth 5.3 transmitter with aptX-HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX-LL, aptX and SBC. Avantree lists up to 30 m of range and claims latency of 55 ms or less when the receiving device supports the relevant low-latency codec. This is the most explicit low-delay claim in the shortlist, but it is conditional on the speaker’s codec support and is not an independent test result.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The unit transmits audio only and is not compatible with Sony PULSE 3D. That limitation matters if you were hoping to use one adapter for both a Bluetooth speaker and a PULSE 3D headset. It also means you should arrange chat audio separately before relying on it for multiplayer sessions.
UGREEN 80894: USB-C with dual pairing
UGREEN 80894 is a USB-C PS5 transmitter for Bluetooth headphones or speakers. Its listed features include aptX Low Latency, dual pairing and pass-through charging. Choose it when those two practical features matter more than a published range number.
Confirm the speaker’s codec list before buying. The presence of aptX Low Latency in the transmitter does not ensure that the speaker will use it; both sides must support the same codec family. Pass-through charging can help when a USB-C port is occupied or you need to power another accessory, but verify the exact charging arrangement and make sure the transmitter remains firmly connected while the console is in use.
PULSE Elevate: official alternative, not a universal transmitter
PULSE Elevate wireless speakers use the included PlayStation Link USB adapter and can also handle audio from Bluetooth devices. This is an option when you are willing to adopt a complete speaker system designed around the PS5. It does not transmit PS5 audio to an existing third-party Bluetooth speaker, so it belongs in a different buying category from DG60P, C81-Gaming and UGREEN 80894.

PS5 setup: connect and pair a Bluetooth speaker
- Connect the transmitter. Insert the USB-A or USB-C transmitter into a PS5 USB port that matches its plug. If you are using a hub or adapter, remove it during initial setup so you can isolate connection problems.
- Open the output menu. On the PS5 home screen, go to Settings > Sound > Audio Output.
- Choose the transmitter. Set the transmitter’s name, such as “Avantree DG60P,” as Output Device. If the console keeps switching back to another device, disable automatic switching in the same audio-output area.
- Put the speaker in pairing mode. Use the speaker’s Bluetooth button or pairing control. Keep it close to the PS5 for the first connection and disconnect it from phones or other remembered sources that might capture the pairing request.
- Complete pairing on the transmitter. Follow the transmitter’s pairing procedure until its indicator shows a connected state. The PS5 generally does not display the speaker as a separate Bluetooth accessory; the transmitter handles that link.
- Select a shared codec if available. If the transmitter offers codec selection, choose a mode that the speaker also lists. aptX Adaptive or aptX Low Latency can help only when both devices support the same mode.
- Test game audio. Start a game with speech, sound effects and a visible action. Check whether voices and effects line up with the picture before beginning a long session.
- Check chat separately. Confirm your microphone input and party-chat output. A transmit-only adapter will not supply a microphone path, even when speaker audio works.
How to reduce Bluetooth delay
Some delay is inherent in wireless encoding, buffering and decoding. A small offset may be acceptable for menus or turn-based games but distracting in rhythm games, competitive shooters and dialogue-heavy scenes. Use this order of checks:
- Verify codec matching. Read the speaker’s specification, not just the transmitter’s. A transmitter supporting aptX Adaptive cannot force a speaker that supports only SBC to use aptX.
- Try a single receiver. Turn off dual pairing and disconnect other Bluetooth devices. Multiple links can add scheduling and synchronization overhead.
- Shorten the path. Keep the speaker in the same room with a clear path to the transmitter. Range figures such as 50 m open-area or 30 m are not indoor latency guarantees.
- Remove competing radio sources. Move Wi-Fi routers, USB 3 accessories and other wireless hubs away from the transmitter and speaker where practical.
- Compare with a wired reference. Briefly use wired headphones or a controller-connected headset. If the wired signal is synchronized and Bluetooth is not, the wireless path is the limiting factor rather than the game.
- Use another output route when timing is critical. Wired audio, HDMI audio to a display with Bluetooth output, or a PlayStation Link system may provide a better result for your equipment.
Do not treat a product’s advertised millisecond figure as universal. Avantree’s 55 ms or less claim for C81-Gaming applies when compatible low-latency codecs are used; your speaker, firmware and content can produce a different result.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Alternative routing through a TV or AV system
The PS5 can send audio over HDMI to a television or AV system. If the display has Bluetooth audio output, pair the display with the speaker instead of connecting a USB transmitter directly to the console. This can be convenient when the speaker is already used for TV sound, but the television becomes part of the latency chain and may apply its own audio processing.
An HDMI audio-extractor chain is another possibility: PS5 HDMI output goes to the extractor, video continues to the display, and the extractor’s audio output feeds a Bluetooth transmitter. The exact equipment must preserve the video mode you use. Verify HDMI 2.1 support, 4K at 120 Hz, variable refresh rate and HDCP behavior for the specific extractor, display and cable combination. No particular extractor is established here as a verified PS5 solution, so treat compatibility claims cautiously.
Protect your video settings
Adding an extractor or changing HDMI routing can cause the PS5 to renegotiate resolution, refresh rate or HDR. Check Settings > Screen and Video after installing any new device. Confirm that 4K, 120 Hz, VRR and HDR still appear as expected in your setup. If a feature disappears, bypass the new device temporarily to identify whether it is the bottleneck.

Troubleshooting common failures
The PS5 does not show the transmitter
- Unplug and reconnect it directly to the console, avoiding a hub during testing.
- Try another USB port of the correct type or use the included connector adapter if one is supplied.
- Restart the PS5 with the transmitter attached, then revisit Settings > Sound > Audio Output.
- Check whether another USB audio device is being selected automatically and turn off automatic device switching if necessary.
The speaker pairs but there is no sound
- Confirm the transmitter itself is selected as Output Device, not the television or controller.
- Raise the speaker’s volume and make sure it is not still connected to a phone.
- Disconnect and re-enter pairing mode on both devices.
- Test with SBC first if codec selection is available, then move to a shared aptX mode. This distinguishes a codec-negotiation problem from a general connection problem.
Audio is delayed or out of sync
- Check whether the speaker supports aptX Adaptive or aptX Low Latency.
- Disable a second paired receiver and reduce distance or obstructions.
- Turn off television sound processing if the signal is routed through a display.
- For timing-sensitive games, switch to wired audio or a PlayStation Link setup if Bluetooth delay remains unacceptable.
Party chat does not work
A transmit-only adapter can deliver game sound while providing no microphone input. Use the DualSense microphone, a wired headset or another microphone path supported by the PS5. Do not assume a speaker’s built-in microphone will be routed back through a one-way transmitter.
Which option fits your setup?
- Choose DG60P if you need USB-A, want the broadest listed codec support in this group and have one Bluetooth speaker.
- Choose C81-Gaming if your console position favors USB-C and your speaker supports aptX Adaptive or aptX Low Latency. Account for its transmit-only design and PULSE 3D incompatibility.
- Choose UGREEN 80894 if USB-C, dual pairing and pass-through charging are priorities, and your speaker shares its low-latency codec.
- Choose PULSE Elevate only if you want an official PlayStation Link speaker system rather than a transmitter for existing Bluetooth equipment.
For any of the USB transmitters, verify the connector, shared codec, microphone needs and desired video mode before ordering. Sony’s position remains that third-party adapter compatibility and performance are not guaranteed, so retain a wired or HDMI-based fallback if synchronized audio is essential.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I connect a Bluetooth speaker directly to a PS5?
No. PS5 does not support Bluetooth Audio connections directly. Use a compatible USB Bluetooth transmitter, route audio through a TV or AV system with Bluetooth output, or use a PlayStation Link speaker system.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Will Bluetooth 5.3 eliminate PS5 audio delay?
No. Bluetooth version alone does not determine latency. The transmitter and speaker need a shared low-latency codec such as aptX Low Latency or aptX Adaptive, and the actual result still depends on the devices and audio path.
Can a USB transmitter provide PS5 voice chat?
Not necessarily. Transmit-only adapters, including C81-Gaming, send audio to the speaker but do not provide a microphone return path. Use a separately supported microphone or headset for chat.
