Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For a car without dependable built-in calling, a dedicated Bluetooth speakerphone is the simplest fix. The strongest current, directly documented option in the available evidence is the Avantree Roadtrip: it can play calls through its own two-speaker unit or transmit phone audio to the car stereo over FM. That makes it a practical fit for drivers who want a self-contained speaker, an FM option, or both.
There is no independent, controlled test here that proves one model has the best microphone or sound quality. Treat published specifications as a way to match a device to your car and calling habits—not as a measured ranking. The guidance below explains what matters, how to install and use the Roadtrip, and what to verify before buying any car speakerphone.

What a car speakerphone does
A car speakerphone pairs with your phone over Bluetooth. Its microphone captures your voice, while its built-in speaker reproduces the other person’s voice. You can keep the phone in a mount, pocket, or bag instead of holding it.
Some units also include an FM transmitter. The transmitter sends the speakerphone’s audio on a low-power FM frequency; you tune the vehicle radio to that same open frequency. Calls, music, podcasts, and navigation prompts can then play through the car’s speakers. FM is optional rather than mandatory: a standalone speakerphone works without involving the car stereo.

Bluetooth profiles determine which functions are possible. The Roadtrip lists HFP and HSP for calls and A2DP and AVRCP for music and playback controls. Actual behavior still depends on the phone’s operating system, Bluetooth implementation, and the vehicle environment.
Best-documented option: Avantree Roadtrip
Roadtrip is the only current model in the available evidence with a detailed, model-specific feature list and setup instructions. Avantree describes it as a car Bluetooth speaker and wireless FM transmitter for phone calls and phone audio. Its advertised specifications are useful for comparison, but they have not been independently measured.
| Feature | Roadtrip’s published specification | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Speakers | Two 3 W speakers | A self-contained stereo speaker unit; loudness and clarity in a moving car depend on placement, road noise, and volume. |
| Microphone | Built-in noise-reducing microphone | Noise reduction is claimed by the manufacturer; no controlled voice-quality test is provided. |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 5.0; HFP, HSP, A2DP and AVRCP profiles | Supports hands-free calling and common music/playback functions on compatible phones. |
| Talk-time estimate | Up to 12 hours at 60% volume | An advertised maximum under the stated volume condition, not a guaranteed runtime for every call pattern. |
| Music-playback estimate | Up to 8 hours at 60% volume | Music use is specified separately from talk time and may vary with volume and Bluetooth activity. |
| Battery | 1,020 mAh rechargeable, replaceable BL-5C | A replaceable cell gives you a model-specific replacement path instead of requiring disposal when the battery ages. |
| Charging | About two hours | Charging time is a manufacturer estimate. |
| FM transmission | 88.1–107.9 MHz; transmitter range up to 12 feet | The radio and Roadtrip must use the same clear frequency, and the vehicle antenna layout can affect results. |
| Controls | Rotary volume dial, voice-assistant control, motion sensor | Physical controls can reduce the need to reach for a phone; assistant behavior varies by phone and assistant. |
Roadtrip can automatically power on or reconnect using its motion sensor, according to the product description. Confirm that behavior with your phone before relying on it; automatic reconnection is not established for every handset.

Built-in speaker mode
Use the Roadtrip as a completely separate speaker when you want the shortest setup. It avoids searching for an FM frequency and continues to work in cars with weak or unusual radios. Put the unit where its microphone has a clear path to the driver and passengers, then adjust the rotary dial.
Rank #2
- [2-IN-1 SPEAKER & FM TRANSMITTER] Use the Roadtrip as a Bluetooth speaker for calls, voice assistant activation, or directions, or use as an FM transmitter to stream audio from your phone to your car's stereo via FM.
- [CRYSTAL CLEAR CALLS] Hear every conversation clearly with dual 3W speakers, and ensure your voice is heard just as clearly with the built-in noise-reducing microphone.
- [HIGH-DEFINITION SOUND] Despite its compact size, the Roadtrip’s dual 3W speakers deliver powerful, high-definition audio with emphasized clarity.
- [SMART AUTO POWER] The Roadtrip automatically powers off as you leave the car and your phone disconnects. When you return, its built-in motion sensor detects your presence, powers on, and reconnects to your device as you open the door.
- [EASY TO USE] Turn the rotary dial to adjust the volume, or press it to activate your phone's voice assistant for hands-free calls, texts, and more.
- Best for: quick installation, cars with unreliable radios, and drivers who want calls isolated from the stereo.
- Trade-off: a small dashboard unit must compete with engine, tire, and ventilation noise; the evidence does not include a measured loudness or speech-intelligibility result.
FM-transmitter mode
FM mode can make phone audio louder or more natural when your car stereo and speakers are better than a small accessory. It requires an open frequency and matching tuning on both devices. In crowded urban areas, a supposedly open channel can pick up another station or interference.
- Best for: drivers who prefer the vehicle’s speakers for calls, music, navigation, or podcasts.
- Trade-off: setup takes longer, and the usable channel can change when you travel.
How to set up Roadtrip
Bluetooth speaker setup
- Turn on the Roadtrip.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone.
- Start device discovery and select Avantree Roadtrip.
- Accept the pairing request if the phone displays one.
- Place a short test call while parked. Confirm that the phone uses Roadtrip for both the microphone and call audio.
- Adjust the speaker volume with the rotary dial and set the phone’s call volume to a comfortable level.
After the first pairing, leave Bluetooth enabled on the phone and power the unit on before driving. If it does not reconnect, open the phone’s Bluetooth device list while parked and select Roadtrip manually.
FM setup
- Switch Roadtrip to FM mode.
- Turn on the vehicle radio and find an unused frequency between 88.1 and 107.9 MHz. Avoid a channel with hiss, a weak station, or a neighboring station that bleeds into it.
- Set Roadtrip to exactly the same frequency.
- Play a short audio clip while parked and adjust the radio and Roadtrip volume independently.
- If static appears, choose another open frequency and retune both devices.
The listed transmitter range is up to 12 feet. Keep the unit within that distance of the radio antenna area, but do not assume every vehicle will achieve the maximum range.
What to compare when shopping
Microphone and noise handling
Look for a microphone positioned toward the cabin and an explicit noise-reduction claim. Those features indicate design intent, not a guaranteed conversation in traffic. Road, HVAC, open windows, and dashboard reflections can all affect what the other party hears. A seller’s “noise cancelling” label should never be treated as an independent speech-quality measurement.

- Dual Speakers: Dual 2 Watts Speakers for the better sound quality and louder calling volume. You could enjoy your hands-free calling even in very noisy highway.
- CONNECT To 2 PHONES: With the multipoint technology, the Besign BK06 Bluetooth Car Kit can connect to 2 devices at the same time.
- Siri or Voice Command: One Button to activate the Siri or Voice Command In the standby mode, press the Siri Button for 2 seconds to activate the voice command function on Andriod or iOS devices.
Speaker output and placement
Wattage alone does not predict intelligibility. Compare the number and size of speakers, the physical location of the unit, available volume controls, and whether the device can use the car stereo. A 3 W rating on each of Roadtrip’s two speakers is a published electrical specification, not a standardized loudness score.
Bluetooth pairing and controls
Physical buttons or a dial are preferable to navigating a phone screen. Check whether the unit advertises answer, end, mute, redial, playback, or voice-assistant controls. Pair and test those functions while parked. Never configure a new device or troubleshoot Bluetooth while the vehicle is moving.
Two-phone use
Multipoint matters if you carry personal and work phones. The Roadtrip evidence does not establish multipoint support, so do not assume it can maintain two active connections. A Jabra Freeway manual from roughly 2015 documents two active Bluetooth devices, voice-operated calling, dual microphones, music streaming, and a motion sensor, but Freeway is a legacy design. The manual does not prove current retail availability, software support, or compatibility with modern phones.
Battery, charging, and replacement
Compare talk-time and music-time estimates separately, and note the volume used for each estimate. Roadtrip’s figures—up to 12 hours of talk and up to eight hours of music at 60% volume—are manufacturer claims. Heavy call use, high volume, cold temperatures, and repeated reconnection can reduce runtime. Its replaceable BL-5C battery is a practical advantage for long-term ownership, but verify that any replacement is specifically compatible with the Roadtrip model.

- 【Hands-Free Calls】 Built-in 3W speaker designed for phone calls and voice clarity in the car. Please note this device is not a replacement for a full car stereo system.
- 【DISTRACTION FREE DRIVING】Encourages safe driving by using Siri Assistant to make phone calls, send texts or get driving directions.
- 【Motion Wake Function】 The CK11 automatically wakes when vibration is detected (e.g., car door opens). It powers down only after the Bluetooth connection is disconnected and no activity is detected for a period of time. For best results, ensure the device is properly clipped and charged. (Please note that the physical On/Off switch must not be set to “Off” when using this feature.)
- 【LONG BATTERY LIFE】Get lost in your calls, music or driving directions with up to 18 hours of battery life! Feeling a little low? Avantree CK11 rechargeable battery charges in 2-3 hours and features over 600 hours of standby time.
- 【PAIR. PLACE. PROCEED.】Installation of CK11 is so easy your child can do it! Simply pair the device with your phone(s), place it on the visor with the included clip and be on your way to clear calls in the car!
Mounting and vehicle layout
Confirm how the device will attach before ordering. A unit that blocks an air vent, instrument display, or windshield view is a poor fit regardless of audio features. Keep the microphone unobstructed and place the speaker where the driver can hear it without turning their head. The available evidence does not test every dashboard, visor, or vent configuration.
Phone and profile compatibility
Check the phone’s Bluetooth version and support for hands-free calling before purchase. Bluetooth 5.0 on the accessory does not guarantee identical performance with every older or newer phone. Also verify whether your phone’s voice assistant can be activated from a connected accessory; the Roadtrip page describes an assistant control but does not promise universal assistant compatibility.
FM versus a standalone speaker: a decision table
| Question | Choose standalone speaker mode when… | Choose FM mode when… |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want the fastest setup? | You want to pair once and avoid tuning a radio. | You are willing to find and match an open frequency. |
| Which speakers should carry the call? | The accessory’s built-in speakers are sufficient. | Your car’s speakers provide the preferred volume or cabin coverage. |
| How stable is the radio environment? | Your area has crowded FM channels or frequent travel between regions. | Your car has a reliable radio and you can locate a clear channel. |
| What audio do you want routed? | Primarily calls through a dedicated device. | Calls plus music, navigation, and other phone audio through the stereo. |
Troubleshooting common problems
The phone will not pair
- Park safely, turn Bluetooth off and on, and restart the Roadtrip.
- In the phone’s saved Bluetooth devices, remove an old Roadtrip entry, then repeat pairing.
- Move other previously paired phones out of range during first setup.
- Confirm that the unit is not already connected to another phone.
The other person cannot hear you
- Move the unit so the microphone is not covered by a case, vent, or dashboard edge.
- Lower fan speed and close a window for a controlled test while parked.
- Check the call-audio route on the phone and select Roadtrip as the microphone and speaker.
- Test a second phone; if only one handset fails, the issue may be phone-specific rather than a failed microphone.
FM audio is static or another station interrupts
- Find a different unused frequency within 88.1–107.9 MHz.
- Set the radio and Roadtrip to the exact same decimal frequency.
- Keep the unit within the stated up-to-12-foot transmitter range.
- Retest after moving the accessory; the best channel and placement can differ by vehicle.
The battery does not last as expected
Compare your usage with the published test condition: the 12-hour talk and eight-hour music figures are both specified at 60% volume. Higher volume, continuous music, weak Bluetooth connections, and an aging battery can all shorten runtime. Charge for the manufacturer’s approximately two-hour estimate and investigate a compatible BL-5C replacement if capacity has materially declined.
Safety and distracted-driving law
A speakerphone can remove the need to hold or look at a phone, but it does not remove the mental demands of a conversation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states: “You cannot drive safely unless the task of driving has your full attention.” Its distracted-driving guidance reports 3,208 deaths and 315,167 injuries in crashes involving distracted drivers in 2024.

NHTSA defines distraction as activity that diverts visual, manual, or cognitive attention. Its guidance recommends avoiding talking or using a phone while driving. State legislatures set the applicable rules, and many states restrict texting, handheld calls, or other phone use. Check the law where you drive; a product marketed as “hands-free” is not a legal guarantee.
- Pair and configure the speakerphone before moving.
- Use voice controls only if you can do so without diverting attention.
- Pull over before changing Bluetooth devices, FM frequencies, or phone settings.
- End a call or let it go to voicemail when traffic requires full concentration.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify the audio path: built-in speaker only, or built-in speaker plus FM transmission.
- Confirm phone compatibility: Bluetooth calling, desired voice assistant, and any multipoint requirement.
- Check cabin placement: microphone visibility, speaker position, mounting method, and access to controls.
- Read battery conditions: talk and music estimates, test volume, charging time, and whether the cell is replaceable.
- Plan for your radio environment: FM mode is useful only when you can find a reasonably clear frequency.
- Separate claims from measurements: manufacturer noise-reduction, wattage, range, and endurance figures are not independent test results.
- Verify current availability: older models and manuals may no longer represent products that are sold or supported.
- Set up while parked: test a call, confirm the microphone route, and save a reliable FM channel before driving.
Which type is right for you?
Choose Roadtrip if you want flexibility
Roadtrip is the clearest documented fit when you want both a self-contained Bluetooth speaker and the option to use the car radio. Its advertised dual 3 W speakers, noise-reducing microphone, physical volume dial, motion sensor, replaceable battery, and FM range cover the main feature categories buyers typically compare. The evidence does not establish that it sounds better than competing products, so the recommendation is based on documented functionality and flexibility.
Consider a legacy design only after availability checks
Historical models such as Jabra Freeway show why multipoint, dual microphones, voice operation, and motion sensing can matter. The roughly 2015 manual is not evidence of current stock, firmware support, warranty service, or compatibility with today’s phones. Treat such specifications as comparison ideas, then verify a current listing and support status before purchase.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Skip a dedicated unit if your car already solves the problem
If the vehicle’s built-in hands-free system reliably handles calls and the microphone is clear, an add-on speakerphone may add complexity rather than value. An accessory is most useful when the car lacks hands-free calling, its microphone is poor, or you need a portable solution that can move between vehicles.
