Best Blood Bowl Teams for Beginners: How to Choose One

There is no evidence-backed single “best” Blood Bowl team for every beginner. Choose by the kind of play you want to learn, how much roster complexity you want to manage, and whether the team’s miniatures appeal to you. Humans and Orcs are two options to compare, but the available official material does not establish either as the easiest team.

What Blood Bowl team should I start with?

Blood Bowl is a tabletop fantasy football game played with teams represented by miniatures. Games Workshop’s overview names Humans, Orcs, Elves, Dwarfs, Ogres and Undead among the available teams. That gives you a range of themes and possible play styles to explore, but it does not identify a universal beginner pick.

Games Workshop’s 2025 team-tier document ranks teams by competitive tier, not by how easy they are for a new coach to learn. A competitive tier is not a beginner-difficulty score, so it should not be used to declare one team the simplest starting point.

How do I choose a Blood Bowl team?

Use these questions to narrow your options. The goal is to find a team you will enjoy learning, not to chase a difficulty ranking that the available official sources do not provide.

#1 Best Overall
Games Workshop 99120909001 "The Gouged Eye Orc Blood Bowl Team Miniature Game

  • This box contains 12 horrible plastic Orc Blood Bowl players 2 blitzers, 2 throwers, 2 Black Orc blockers and 6 linemen

What style of play do you want to learn?

Decide whether you want a broad introduction to different kinds of actions or would rather focus on a more specialized plan. Humans and Orcs are familiar examples to compare, but the sources here do not establish their current Third Season roster details or prove that either is a better beginner choice. Check the current roster and rules before treating a particular team’s roles or tactics as a reason to buy it.

How much roster complexity do you want to manage?

Look at how many distinct player roles and special rules the current roster asks you to track. Those details can affect how much there is to learn, but no difficulty rating should be assigned without checking the Third Season roster and rules. The available official material does not provide a named beginner statistic or a team-by-team ease comparison.

Do the miniatures appeal to you?

Choose a team whose models and theme you are happy to own and use. A retailer’s general advice is to consider both miniature appeal and play style, and that is a useful personal-choice principle—not official Games Workshop guidance or evidence of a team’s difficulty.

Check the Third Season rules and team box before buying

Use Third Season as the rules context for a current team decision. Games Workshop’s 2025 event rules direct team drafting to the Third Season Official Rulebook. Its roster-change article says the number of roster positionals will match the contents of the team box. Before purchasing, confirm that the listing is for the current edition and that its box contents suit the roster you intend to use.

If you are looking for a Blood Bowl Third Season starter set or team miniatures, verify the specific listing, seller, availability and price before buying. The sources establish the relevance of current-edition products, but do not verify any particular retailer listing.

A practical first-team decision

  1. Pick the style you want to learn. Decide whether you prefer a broad introduction to different actions or a more focused approach.
  2. Inspect the current roster. Use Third Season rules to check the team’s player roles and special rules; do not infer simplicity from a competitive tier.
  3. Compare the box with the roster. Confirm the models and positionals in the team box match what you plan to field.
  4. Choose the team you will enjoy using. If two options look equally suitable, model and theme appeal can be a sensible tie-breaker.
