Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For a pre-recorded video sent to YouTube Live, choose the outgoing stream bitrate by frame rate and codec—not just by the video’s 1080p resolution. YouTube recommends 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p60. With AV1 or H.265, its recommendations are 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 12 Mbps at 1080p60. These are live-ingest recommendations, not guarantees of picture quality.
Recommended bitrate for 1080p YouTube Live
Use the row that matches the video codec and frame rate your encoder sends to YouTube. The minimums below are also YouTube’s stated live-ingest minimums; aim for the recommended target when your outbound connection can sustain it.

|---|---|---|
| H.264, 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| H.264, 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265, 1080p30 | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265, 1080p60 | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
These settings come from YouTube’s live encoder guidance. They describe the bitrate sent to YouTube, not a measured outcome or a guarantee that a particular picture will look good. A high-motion source may need more capacity than a static scene, but do not exceed your connection’s reliable upload capacity.
Why the stored file’s bitrate is not the live bitrate
A pre-recorded video becomes a live stream when an encoder or cloud service sends it as a live feed. The bitrate in the saved file describes its existing encoding; the live-ingest bitrate describes the outgoing feed YouTube receives. They are related to the source and encode workflow, but they are not interchangeable settings.
#1 Best Overall

YouTube’s separate upload encoding recommendations list 8 Mbps for 1080p standard-frame-rate video files and 12 Mbps for 1080p high-frame-rate files. Those figures apply to uploading a normal video, not to choosing a YouTube Live encoder target.
Set the rest of the live encoder correctly
Bitrate alone will not make a reliable stream. YouTube’s live guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate encoding (CBR); and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS.

- 【Compatible with Multiple Systems】suitable for Windows and Mac OS. High speed USB 3.0 technology and superior low latency technology makes it easier for you to transmit live streaming to Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, OBS, Potplayer and VLC.
- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
- Match frame rate to the outgoing feed. If the source and outgoing stream are 30 fps, use the 30 fps target. If the encoder sends 60 fps, use the 60 fps target. Preserve the source frame rate where practical rather than converting solely to claim a higher frame rate.
- Choose bitrate for the ingest codec. Use the H.264 row for an H.264 feed, or the AV1/H.265 row for those codecs. Do not apply an upload-file recommendation to the live feed.
- Use CBR. Set the encoder to constant bitrate so the outgoing stream holds a stable target instead of varying its bitrate.
- Set keyframes to two seconds. Do not set the interval above four seconds.
- Use RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends it for the connection to its ingest server.
Exact menu names differ by encoder. Check the live output settings—not just the source file properties—and verify that the selected codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval match the feed you intend to send.
Check whether your connection can sustain the target
The encoder’s target only helps if the outbound connection can deliver it steadily. Test the connection and run a representative pre-stream test using similar audio and movement to the actual video. YouTube’s advice is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Monitor YouTube’s stream health during the broadcast and respond to warnings rather than assuming the configured bitrate is being delivered reliably.

- Confirm the outgoing settings. Record the codec, frame rate, and target bitrate shown in the encoder.
- Test the upload path. Check that the available outbound connection can sustain the chosen bitrate; avoid treating a brief peak speed as proof of sustained capacity.
- Run a representative test stream. Use material with comparable motion and audio, then check YouTube’s stream health before relying on the setup.
- Adjust if the feed is unstable. If the connection cannot hold the recommended setting, investigate the connection or choose a lower stable target within YouTube’s stated settings rather than persisting with a bitrate that drops frames or disconnects.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo runs the playback in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your home computer and connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a camera-live service.
