There is no single best AT&T plan. For most people, Premium 2.0 is the safest default if you use a lot of data, Extra 2.0 suits moderate users who want hotspot, Value 2.0 suits light users who care mainly about price, and Elite 2.0 only makes sense if you will actually use its international, smartwatch/tablet and Turbo extras. Light single-line users with an eSIM phone should also look at the $15 Build-A-Plan. All prices below are AT&T’s advertised examples for the United States, with conditions stated beside each one. Confirm your own total at checkout.

The four Unlimited Your Way plans

AT&T’s consumer lineup has four tiers: Value 2.0, Extra 2.0, Premium 2.0 and Elite 2.0. They differ mainly in how much high-speed data you get before slowing, hotspot allowance, international features and included device access.

Plan High-speed data Hotspot International / extras Best fit
Value 2.0 5GB, after which AT&T may temporarily slow data when the network is busy 3GB, then max 128 kbps Unlimited talk, text and data in and between the U.S., Canada and Mexico Light data users who mostly use Wi-Fi
Extra 2.0 100GB, then possible slowing when the network is busy 50GB, then max 128 kbps Value features Regular heavy-ish users who need hotspot
Premium 2.0 Unlimited, described by AT&T as not slowed based on how much you use 100GB Unlimited talk, text and high-speed data in 20 Latin American countries, with conditions Heavy users; travelers to those countries
Elite 2.0 Unlimited (Premium-level) 250GB Unlimited international talk and text plus 20GB data monthly in 210+ destinations; one smartwatch and one tablet per line at no extra monthly cost; AT&T Turbo Frequent international travelers, people who want connected watch and tablet included

The Elite 2.0 entry is read from AT&T’s plan page; its Premium-level data treatment is implied by the tier ladder, so check the live terms before assuming identical data handling.

How to choose

1. Start with each line’s real data use

Check your phone’s cellular data counter for a typical month. Under roughly 5GB, Value 2.0 can work. If you regularly go beyond that, Value’s 5GB threshold is the main catch: past it, AT&T may slow data when the network is busy. Extra’s 100GB is far more than most phones use. Premium matters mainly if you are a very heavy user or want the guarantee of no usage-based slowing.

2. Decide whether you tether

Hotspot data is a separate allowance, and after it runs out speed drops to a maximum 128 kbps. Value’s 3GB disappears quickly on a laptop. Extra’s 50GB, Premium’s 100GB and Elite’s 250GB suit progressively heavier remote-work or travel use.

3. List where you travel

Canada and Mexico are covered from Value up. Frequent trips to Latin America point to Premium. Trips farther afield, or needing data in many countries, point to Elite. If you never leave the U.S., you are paying for these extras for nothing.

4. Value extras only if you will use them

Elite’s smartwatch and tablet access is worth something only if you have those devices and would otherwise pay for lines on them. Same for Turbo. Otherwise compare Elite’s extra cost against Premium and skip it if the answer is not obviously yes.

5. Mix tiers across lines

AT&T says Unlimited Your Way lets you mix and match plans across lines. A family can put a heavy user and traveler on Premium while a child who lives on Wi-Fi uses Value.

What the prices really mean

AT&T’s wireless page shows Premium 2.0 at $50 per line per month and Elite 2.0 at $70 per line per month, both on a four-line account. These are not one-line prices. The “starting at $30 per line” headline refers to Value 2.0 with eligible AutoPay and paperless billing, plus a $5 monthly credit for up to 36 months with a new bring-your-own smartphone on each line. Taxes and fees are extra.

Samsung Galaxy S22 5G, US Version, 128GB, Black - AT&T (Renewed)
  • Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus+), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus+), aluminum frame
  • Armor aluminum frame with tougher drop and scratch resistance (advertised)
  • IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins)

AT&T’s unlimited plans page says its prices are after AutoPay, paperless billing and any wireless discount. It also says proof of eligibility may be required, discounts can take up to three bills to start, and additional charges and restrictions apply. An activation or upgrade fee of up to $50 and a deposit may also apply. When comparing, write down line count and discount assumptions next to every number.

Discounts to check

  • Affinity discounts: AT&T promotes up to 20% savings for certain eligible employees, teachers, military and union members and others. Its Appreciation Savings pages name military, veterans, teachers and retired responders. These are not automatic and depend on both your status and the specific plan.
  • Age 55+ bundle: AT&T advertises two wireless lines plus home internet for $99 per month plus taxes and fees for customers 55 and older. Availability varies by location and requires eligible AT&T Fiber or Internet Air service. Treat it as a separate check for qualifying households, not the ordinary price of wireless service.
  • Phone deals: AT&T’s add-a-line examples require a new line, eligible service, installment financing and bill credits spread over 36 months, with restrictions. A “free phone” headline is not an unconditional price and says nothing about whether a higher tier is worth it.

A cheaper option for one low-use line

Build-A-Plan is an online single-line option starting at $15 per month plus taxes and fees. The base includes unlimited talk and text and 1GB of data, with data and features available at additional prices. To bring your own phone, it must be paid off, unlocked and eSIM-capable. AT&T says most newer phones are, but verify your exact model and lock status. If your phone does not qualify, shop for an unlocked, eSIM-capable 5G smartphone, and confirm that specific model’s AT&T compatibility before buying.

“Unlimited” and coverage caveats

On plans with specified high-speed amounts, AT&T may temporarily slow data during congestion once you pass them. 5G needs a compatible plan and device and is not available everywhere. AT&T claims 5G coverage for over 316 million people nationwide, based on a map it describes as approximate coverage as of March 2025; it says actual coverage may vary and is not guaranteed. That figure is AT&T’s own, not an independent audit, so test coverage at your home, work and regular routes using your address.

In its March 13, 2026 announcement, AT&T’s Jenifer Robertson, executive vice president and general manager, Mass Markets, said: “Customers have been clear: they want simple plans, features that matter, and real value. That’s what Unlimited Your Way delivers.” That is the company’s position, not independent proof of simplicity or reliability against rival carriers. Nothing in AT&T’s materials ranks it against other carriers for your situation.
