Short answer: there is no developer-confirmed “best” weapon pairing for ARC Raiders’ Grappling Hook. The most dependable approach is to choose a loadout for the fight you expect after the swing: a flexible mid-range setup for aggressive repositioning, a dependable close-to-mid-range setup for disengaging and extracting, or a low-commitment setup for exploring and looting. This article treats “the new gadget” as the Grappling Hook introduced in Embark Studios’ Frozen Trail 2.0 update on October 8, 2026.
What the Grappling Hook changes
Frozen Trail 2.0 added the Grappling Hook alongside Pendola Pass, new map conditions, enemies, weapons, a revised skill tree and other gadgets. A current gadget guide describes the Grappling Hook as a way to swing between buildings or climb to high ground. That function gives it more route flexibility than a simple forward dash: you can approach from an unexpected angle, leave a bad position vertically, or bypass an obstacle when the terrain allows it.

The official update notes do not rank loadouts, test weapon combinations or name a universal meta. The builds below are therefore situational recommendations. They explain what to carry when your priority is entering a fight, leaving one, or completing an objective with minimal commitment. Your weapon choices should follow that purpose rather than an assumption that the gadget makes every gun equally effective.

Before choosing weapons, evaluate the complete setup against the same six questions:
#1 Best Overall
- ARC Raiders Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the following content: The Wanderer Set, including the following cosmetic items: “Valente” Outfit" “Pathfinder” Backpack,“Blanket Roll” Backpack Attachment.
- Plus: Character Cosmetic, Finger Gun Rapid Fire Emote, Cowboy Scrappy Body Type and Skin, 2 400 Raider Tokens.
- Traversal flexibility: Can the setup exploit a roof, gap or alternate route, and can you still fight if the intended anchor point is unavailable?
- Engagement range: Does your primary weapon cover the distance you are likely to create by swinging or climbing?
- Targets: Can the setup handle ARC threats, Raiders, or both without forcing a risky weapon swap?
- Exposure: How vulnerable are you while travelling, hanging, landing or recovering from a missed route?
- Resources: What durability and power costs will repeated gadget use impose during a long raid?
- Objective fit: Does the equipment leave enough capacity and combat reliability for the item, extraction or map route you actually entered to complete?
These criteria matter because mobility is not damage, cover or information. A Grappling Hook can place you somewhere advantageous, but it cannot guarantee a safe landing, a clear line of sight or a favorable fight.
Loadout 1: mobility into a fight
Use this when
Choose this style when you intend to create the first angle: climb above a target, swing across a gap, or approach from a route that makes your position difficult to predict. It suits players who are comfortable converting a movement advantage into a fast engagement rather than waiting for a perfect ambush.
Weapon role
Pair the gadget with a weapon that remains useful at the distance you expect after landing. A flexible mid-range primary is the safest role because the Grappling Hook can leave you farther away than planned. Add a close-range backup only if your route consistently ends inside buildings or tight cover. Conversely, a purely close-range setup makes a missed anchor or exposed rooftop especially dangerous because you may have no answer while crossing open ground.
The Tool Desk

The hook supplies the route; the weapon supplies the consequence. Elevation can open a better sightline, while a lateral swing can let you challenge a side that was not being watched. Neither benefit is automatic. If the landing zone is visible from several angles, the movement may expose you instead of protecting you. Plan the first piece of cover before activating the gadget and keep enough ammunition for the fight that follows the reposition.
Rank #2
ARC and Raider considerations
Against Raiders, a mid-range weapon gives you room to disengage if another player appears during the swing. Against ARC, preserve enough sustained damage to finish the encounter rather than spending every resource on the initial approach. The hook should shorten the time you are exposed or improve your angle; it should not be treated as a substitute for target selection, cover or a second escape route.
Practical sequence
- Place the Grappling Hook in a quick-use slot before entering the raid. The current gadget guide says gadgets are added to a loadout before a raid and can be assigned for quick use (Beebom’s gadget guide).
- Identify a landing surface and a fallback surface. If you cannot name both, delay the swing until the route is safer.
- Start the movement from cover, not from the centre of an exposed street or rooftop.
- As you travel, aim to arrive beside cover or a line-of-sight break rather than directly in front of a target.
- Fight at the range your weapon was selected for, then keep the gadget available for the next reposition instead of spending it merely to gain a few metres.
Loadout 2: disengage and extract
Use this when
This is the most forgiving choice for raids where survival and extraction matter more than forcing the opening shot. Carry a reliable combat weapon that works without a perfect setup, then use the Grappling Hook to break contact, change elevation or reach a route that opponents cannot follow immediately.
Weapon role
Prioritize a weapon that remains controllable while you are retreating or defending an extraction route. A close-to-mid-range option is generally more practical than a specialist long-range weapon because disengagements often compress distance around doors, stairwells and cover. Keep a second option only when it solves a clear problem, such as covering a longer lane on the way to extraction; do not sacrifice essential survival supplies for a weapon you may never draw.
Grappling Hook versus Snap Hook
Frozen Trail 2.0 changed the established Snap Hook to separate its role from the new Grappling Hook. Embark reduced the Snap Hook’s range from 20 m to 18 m, increased durability consumption per use from 2% to 4%, and raised its power cost from 50 to 60. The stated goal was to keep the Snap Hook as a committed burst-mobility tool rather than make it a linear upgrade over the Grappling Hook. The notes describe it as useful for quickly closing distance or traversing a location when you accept that commitment; read the full rationale in the official update notes.

| Mobility option | Documented identity | What it means for an extraction loadout |
|---|---|---|
| Grappling Hook | Swing between buildings or climb to high ground | More route choices; use it to reach cover, elevation or a less obvious escape line. |
| Snap Hook | Burst movement for quickly closing distance or traversing with more commitment | Useful when the route is short and decisive, but its updated costs make wasteful repetitions more expensive. |
Disengagement sequence
- Fight from a position with a visible anchor or climb route before your health or resources become critical.
- When contact turns unfavorable, move toward cover first; do not activate the gadget in the open merely because it is available.
- Use the Grappling Hook to cross the dangerous section or gain height, then break line of sight before choosing your next direction.
- Keep your weapon ready for the landing. A gadget animation does not prevent an opponent from predicting where you will arrive.
- At extraction, save one movement option for the final approach instead of spending all mobility during the first chase.
Loadout 3: exploration and looting
Use this when
Pick this setup when the raid objective is gathering items, checking a new area or learning Pendola Pass rather than seeking repeated fights. The best version is not the one with the most specialized damage; it is the one that can survive an unexpected encounter without consuming the space, ammunition or attention needed for the objective.
Weapon role
Use one dependable general-purpose weapon and avoid building the entire loadout around a fight you are trying not to start. A weapon that covers the common distance in the area lets you defend yourself while preserving flexibility for loot and objective items. If you bring a second weapon, make sure it covers a distinct gap rather than duplicating the first one.
Route planning
Use the hook to reach elevated loot paths, cross broken terrain or leave a location when a map condition changes the safe route. The current guide confirms that gadgets may be obtained through loot, crafting and blueprints, with some also sold by traders, but its October 7, 2026 listing marks several new-item details as unconfirmed. Do not assume a Grappling Hook recipe, price, rarity or exact unlock path from that guide; check the live in-game menus.

- Reserve a quick-use slot for the gadget so you do not lose time navigating menus when a Raider or ARC threat appears.
- Leave capacity for the item you entered to collect; a movement-focused setup that forces you to abandon the objective is not efficient.
- Do not spend durability and power on every small gap. Save the hook for a route that avoids a larger danger or protects the extraction plan.
- After landing, pause long enough to confirm that the next area is clear. Speed without information can turn a safe route into an ambush.
Loadout 4: ARC-focused pressure
What changed against ARC
The official Frozen Trail 2.0 notes report a specific explosive-weapon change: explosives deal over 50% more damage against ARC armor plates but about 30% less damage against fragile parts. These figures apply to the documented ARC armor interaction; they are not evidence that explosives are automatically the best answer for every weapon, enemy or encounter. See the update notes for the stated values.

How to build around the tradeoff
If your planned route contains armored ARC targets, an explosive-capable option can make sense as part of the loadout. Pair it with a weapon that can exploit fragile parts or handle Raiders, because the same change reduces explosive effectiveness against those vulnerable components. The Grappling Hook helps you reach a better angle on armor or retreat when the engagement becomes too costly, but it does not remove the need to select the correct target area.
| Situation | Useful emphasis | Risk to manage |
|---|---|---|
| ARC armor plates | Explosive damage option, with elevation or side access from the hook | Spending explosives on a target where the armor is not the main problem. |
| ARC fragile parts | A non-explosive or precision-oriented option that can reach the exposed component | Assuming the armor-plate bonus carries over to fragile parts. |
| Raiders during an ARC fight | A ready general-purpose weapon and a nearby escape route | Becoming locked into an ARC-only setup while another player enters. |
Which setup fits your raid?
| Primary objective | Recommended loadout shape | Traversal flexibility | Exposure concern | Resource approach |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Create an opening | Grappling Hook plus flexible mid-range primary and optional close-range backup | High; use roofs, side angles and alternate approaches | Landing in view of several enemies | Spend the hook when it creates a meaningful angle, not for routine movement |
| Disengage and extract | Grappling Hook plus dependable close-to-mid-range weapon | High; preserve a route to cover and extraction | Being tracked during travel or on landing | Hold one movement use for the final escape |
| Explore and loot | Grappling Hook plus one general-purpose weapon and objective-focused capacity | Useful for terrain and route changes | Using movement without first checking the destination | Conserve durability and power for a genuine obstacle or threat |
| Pressure armored ARC | Grappling Hook plus an explosive option and a separate answer for fragile parts or Raiders | Moderate to high; seek safer angles on armor | Being committed to an ARC-only fight | Apply explosives where the documented armor benefit matters |
How to equip and prepare the gadget
- Open the pre-raid loadout screen and add the Grappling Hook to your gadget selection.
- Assign it to a quick-use slot so activation does not require opening an inventory screen during contact.
- Confirm that your weapon roles match the route: flexible range for aggressive movement, reliable combat for extraction, or general-purpose coverage for looting.
- Check the live item description for the current acquisition method. The guide published October 7, 2026 discusses loot, crafting, blueprints and trader purchases in general, but leaves some new-item fields as unconfirmed (gadget guide).
- Before deploying, identify at least one anchor or climb route near the objective and one fallback route near extraction.
Because the available guide does not establish a Grappling Hook recipe, cost, rarity or exact unlock requirement, those details should be taken from the current game client rather than copied from an older list.
Common mistakes and fixes
Treating movement as guaranteed safety
Symptom: You swing into a fight and are eliminated before reaching cover.
Fix: Choose a landing surface with a line-of-sight break, and keep a weapon ready for the moment you arrive.
Taking a close-range-only weapon to an open route
Symptom: The hook works, but the opponent remains outside your effective range.
Fix: Use a flexible mid-range role when the route includes roofs, streets or long sightlines.

Copying Snap Hook habits
Symptom: You spend mobility repeatedly for short bursts and run out of resources before extraction.
Fix: Decide whether the route needs the Snap Hook’s committed burst identity or the Grappling Hook’s swing-and-climb flexibility, then reserve uses for high-value movement.
Assuming explosive damage is universal
Symptom: Explosives feel effective against armor but inefficient against exposed weak points.
Fix: Remember the documented split: the bonus is for ARC armor plates, while fragile parts receive reduced explosive damage. Carry a complementary option when the encounter can change.
Filling the loadout with unverified item details
Symptom: A build guide promises a recipe, rarity or trader location that your client does not show.
Fix: Treat those fields as version- and region-sensitive until confirmed in the live game. The October 7 gadget listing explicitly marks some new information as unconfirmed.

Bottom line: choose the job, not a “best” gun
The Grappling Hook is most valuable when it changes the route of a raid: it can swing you between buildings or lift you to high ground, but it does not decide what happens after the landing. Use a flexible mid-range setup to turn a new angle into an engagement, a dependable close-to-mid-range setup to survive disengagements, or a general-purpose setup that protects an exploration objective. Add an explosive option for ARC armor only when you also account for its weaker performance against fragile parts. The official sources establish the gadget’s function and the Snap Hook’s distinct burst role, not a single winning combination, so the honest “best” loadout is the one matched to your objective, route and tolerance for exposure.
