The best solo quest loadout is a flexible, inexpensive kit—not a single “meta” weapon pair. Start with Bettina or Anvil as your primary, Bobcat or Canto as your secondary, a Light–Medium shield, the Looting Survivor Mk.3 augment, smoke, healing sprays, and optional lure or revive utility. Then adjust the kit to the objective: travel and collection quests reward mobility and cheap replacement costs, while ARC-kill objectives justify more combat capability and healing.

This recommendation comes from a June 2026 third-party guide, not an official ranking or controlled test. ARC Raiders is being updated frequently, so treat weapon balance, quest availability and matchmaking rules as time-sensitive. The current October 13, 2026 Store Update 2.1.0 changed gameplay, quests, maps, items and traversal; check the latest in-game notes before committing valuable gear.

What a solo quest loadout has to accomplish

Solo quests combine three kinds of work: reaching a location, collecting named items, and defeating ARC enemies. A kit optimized only for firefights can be wasteful on a long collection run, while a travel-focused kit can leave you unable to finish an objective that spawns dangerous ARC opposition. Your equipment therefore needs to cover five practical concerns:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Mobility: enough speed and stamina management to cross the map and disengage when a fight is optional.
  • Survivability: a shield and healing plan that gives you time to recover after an ambush.
  • Disengagement: smoke or another way to break line of sight when a solo fight becomes unfavorable.
  • Objective capacity: room for quest materials and the ability to remain in the area long enough to interact with devices.
  • Replacement cost: losing a cheap objective kit should not erase the value of the items you are trying to collect.

No available source establishes a universal weapon winner, a DPS ranking or a measured completion-rate advantage for any solo build. Choose by objective, map conditions and your tolerance for PvP exposure instead of treating one pairing as mandatory.

The default solo quest template

The following is the most useful starting point for ordinary solo questing. It reflects the June 2026 guide’s dated recommendation; exact item counts are not specified, so carry only as much utility as your inventory and progression allow.

Slot Starting choice Why it fits solo quests When to change it
Primary Bettina or Anvil Provides the main source of damage for ARC encounters without committing the entire kit to a boss-specific setup. Change it when a particular quest or enemy favors a different weapon you already handle well, or when replacement cost is too high for a low-risk run.
Secondary Bobcat or Canto Gives you a second weapon for finishing encounters, switching quickly or conserving primary ammunition. Use the alternative that matches your ammunition supply and the range at which the objective is likely to be contested.
Shield Light–Medium shield Balances protection, movement and carrying burden for a character who must travel alone. Move toward more protection only when the objective reliably demands sustained combat and you accept the added replacement cost.
Augment Looting Survivor Mk.3 Supports a quest loop centered on collecting materials and extracting with them. Replace it only when another augment directly serves a specialized combat or progression goal.
Disengagement Smoke Creates a chance to break enemy sight, cross an exposed section or leave a fight you cannot finish safely. Do not drop smoke for a collection quest simply to add another damage item; the escape option is often more valuable when alone.
Healing Healing sprays Lets you recover between engagements instead of abandoning a quest after one damaging encounter. Carry a larger healing reserve for ARC-combat objectives and a leaner reserve for short, low-threat visits.
Optional utility Lure and revive items A lure can redirect attention; revive utility can preserve a run when the relevant mechanic or teammate situation makes it useful. Omit either item when inventory pressure is more likely to prevent extraction with the required quest materials.

The template is deliberately conservative. It is not a boss build, a PvP build or a promise that Bettina, Anvil, Bobcat or Canto outperform every other weapon in every patch.

Match the kit to the quest objective

Location and travel objectives

For a location visit, the goal is usually to arrive, interact with a point of interest and leave. Use the lowest-cost version of the default template that still gives you one reliable defensive option. Keep smoke and enough healing to survive an unexpected encounter, but do not overinvest in ammunition or expensive combat equipment merely because a fight might occur.

  • Favor the Light–Medium shield and Looting Survivor Mk.3.
  • Keep the secondary weapon serviceable rather than building the entire loadout around maximum damage.
  • Plan an exit before interacting with the objective; solo players cannot rely on a teammate to draw pursuit away.
  • If another player is already contesting the area, disengage and return rather than turning a location check into an unnecessary equipment loss.

Collection objectives

Collection quests make replacement cost especially important. Losing an expensive combat setup while carrying a rare quest component can cost more than the objective is worth. Run a low-cost version of the template, retain the Looting Survivor Mk.3 augment, and reserve inventory space for the named materials. Smoke is usually more valuable than an extra offensive item because it protects the extraction leg after the collection is complete.

Do not assume that finding one required item completes the quest. Read the objective list before deploying, note how many distinct materials are required, and check the quest state after each pickup or interaction.

ARC-kill objectives

ARC combat objectives justify a more deliberate weapon and healing plan. Choose the primary you can use consistently against the expected threat, keep the secondary ready for a range or ammunition change, and carry enough healing to recover from a prolonged encounter. The objective is not to win every possible fight; it is to kill the required target and leave with the remaining quest items.

  • Engage from cover and preserve a smoke charge for retreat.
  • Do not spend all healing during the first exchange if additional ARC waves can reacquire you.
  • Extract after the kill unless another quest step requires staying in the area.
  • Use a boss-oriented build only when the quest actually demands that threat; it is unnecessary weight for ordinary travel or collection work.

How to choose between Bettina, Anvil, Bobcat and Canto

The available guide groups Bettina and Anvil as primary options and Bobcat and Canto as secondary options, but it does not publish controlled damage tests or a universal ranking. Make the choice using handling, ammunition availability, effective range and how expensive the weapon is for you to replace.

Decision question Choose the option you already use best when… Why this matters solo
Which primary? You can land consistent shots with Bettina or Anvil and have a sustainable ammunition supply. Solo players cannot depend on a teammate to finish an enemy after a missed burst, so familiarity reduces exposure time.
Which secondary? Bobcat or Canto covers the range or ammunition gap left by your primary. A complementary backup prevents you from wasting primary ammunition on every target.
Should I bring a more expensive weapon? The quest explicitly requires difficult ARC combat and the potential reward justifies the replacement risk. A premium setup is counterproductive when the task is only a low-threat location visit.
Should I change after a patch? The October 2026 update or later notes alter weapon behavior, enemy encounters or traversal. Balance and routes can change; a previously comfortable pairing may no longer fit the objective.

Because no source supplies weapon statistics for this comparison, avoid treating these names as a tested tier list. Your reliable, affordable weapon is usually better for questing than an unfamiliar item with theoretical advantages.

Shield, augment and utility priorities

Light–Medium shield

The Light–Medium shield is the default compromise: it adds protection without turning every movement segment into a high-cost, heavy combat commitment. It is suited to a run where you may need to fight once but primarily need to travel, collect and extract. A heavier alternative can make sense for a combat-specific objective, but only if the added protection changes your survival plan enough to justify its cost and burden.

Looting Survivor Mk.3

Looting Survivor Mk.3 fits quests that end with material extraction because it supports the collection loop rather than a single damage window. It is not a guarantee that you will find every item or survive every ambush. If your objective is purely an ARC kill with no collection requirement, compare its value with any combat augment you have legitimately unlocked, but do not claim a universal replacement without current patch evidence.

Smoke, lure, revive and sprays

Smoke is the most generally useful utility for solo travel: deploy it to cross an exposed gap, break enemy sight or create the seconds needed to heal. A lure can redirect attention when you need to move around a hostile area, while revive utility is situational and should not consume the space needed for required materials. Healing sprays are mandatory for a serious ARC encounter and sensible on almost every quest because a single damaging exchange should not automatically end the run.

The guide does not specify a universal item count. Set your quantity according to the quest, available inventory and expected threat, and keep enough room for named quest materials.

Solo matchmaking choices in October 2026

PvE matchmaking beta: October 13–20, 2026

Embark announced a temporary PvE matchmaking toggle beta running from October 13 through October 20, 2026. In PvE servers, player-to-player damage is disabled, which can reduce the risk of another Raider interrupting a collection or travel objective. The trade-off is lower overall loot value. PvE is also unavailable for the Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection map conditions.

Use the toggle when your priority is quest progress and the current matchmaking menu offers it for the map you need. It does not remove environmental danger: ARC enemies can reacquire downed players after the stated grace period. Check the menu and the current event notice because this is a dated test, not a permanent mode promise.

Solo vs Squads

Embark’s January 27, 2026 Headwinds notes added Solo vs Squads for solo Raiders at level 40 and above. Eligible solo players enter the Squads queue, accept greater PvP exposure and receive a stated 20% end-of-round XP bonus when they extract or are defeated.

Rank #4
ARK: Survival Evolved - Nintendo Switch
  • Capture and Tame Dinosaurs: Discover over 100 different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on the island, finding ways to tame them into useful additions for your tribe's dyno herd
  • Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game
  • Harvest, Hunt and Build: Cut down trees and turn them into a basic home, which you can quickly expand into a Jurassic estate. Hunt for meat, scavenge for plants (or start your own garden!)
  • Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
  • Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout

This is a deliberate high-risk progression choice, not the default questing recommendation. Select it when the XP bonus is worth the increased chance of losing your kit and quest materials. For low-cost travel or collection runs, ordinary matchmaking—or the temporary PvE beta when available—better matches the objective.

Worked example: planning the To the Skies quest

The To the Skies quest demonstrates why objective-first loadout planning matters. A PC Gamer walkthrough updated October 9, 2026 says the quest asks you to scan a crashed probe and a courier, collect four named ARC materials, and repair a Gondola Prototype.

Required materials

  • Arc Performance Steel
  • Pop Trigger
  • Arc Thermo Lining
  • Arc Synthetic Resin

Practical preparation

  1. Read the quest panel and confirm all four material names before deploying.
  2. Use the default Bettina-or-Anvil plus Bobcat-or-Canto pairing if those weapons are affordable and familiar.
  3. Equip the Light–Medium shield and Looting Survivor Mk.3.
  4. Reserve inventory capacity for the four materials and carry smoke, healing sprays and only the optional utility you can afford to lose.
  5. If the PvE toggle is visible during the October 13–20 beta and the required map condition is eligible, consider it for lower player-combat risk while remembering that loot value is reduced.

During the run

  1. Scan the crashed probe and courier as the quest specifies; do not assume that collecting materials alone advances the scan steps.
  2. Collect each named component and verify the quest tracker after every pickup.
  3. Use smoke to leave a contested area rather than spending all ammunition on an avoidable player or ARC fight.
  4. Install the four parts into the Gondola Prototype only after confirming that the interaction is available.
  5. Extract once the repair step is complete unless another active quest requires you to remain in the area.

The walkthrough provides the exact route and location details. A loadout guide should not invent those details, especially while maps and traversal are being changed in current updates.

Quest progression and the Expedition reset

A PC Gamer quest roundup updated May 1, 2026 reported 100 quests as of the Riven Tides update and described the mix of location, collection and enemy-kill objectives. That is a dated count, not a guarantee of the current total. New quests can arrive with updates.

The same roundup says quest progress resets with an Expedition. Before starting an Expedition, finish or deliberately abandon any objective whose progress you cannot afford to lose. This reset makes replacement cost and efficient routing more important than carrying the most expensive possible kit on every deployment.

A step-by-step solo loadout checklist

  1. Identify the objective type. Mark the quest as travel/location, collection, ARC combat or a combination.
  2. Set your risk mode. Use ordinary matchmaking, the temporary PvE beta when eligible, or Solo vs Squads only when you intentionally accept its higher PvP exposure and level-40 requirement.
  3. Select affordable weapons. Start with Bettina or Anvil plus Bobcat or Canto; change only when range, ammunition or enemy demands justify it.
  4. Equip protection. Use the Light–Medium shield unless the quest’s sustained combat clearly warrants a heavier, more expensive choice.
  5. Add the augment. Equip Looting Survivor Mk.3 for collection-focused runs.
  6. Reserve escape and healing. Bring smoke and healing sprays before optional damage or convenience items.
  7. Protect inventory space. Leave room for every named quest item and avoid filling slots with loot that makes extraction impossible.
  8. Plan the exit. Identify where you will disengage, heal and extract before starting an interaction.
  9. Recheck patch notes. The October 13, 2026 Store Update 2.1.0 includes changes to gameplay, quests, maps, items and traversal, so routes and weapon assumptions can become outdated.

Common solo-quest mistakes and fixes

Using a boss build for every quest

Problem: A heavy, expensive setup slows a simple collection or location run and makes a failed extraction disproportionately costly.
Fix: Return to the Light–Medium shield, Looting Survivor Mk.3, smoke and healing template, then add combat specialization only when the objective requires it.

Carrying no disengagement tool

Problem: You win an encounter but cannot cross the next exposed section or escape a second wave.
Fix: Keep smoke in the baseline kit and treat it as an extraction resource, not merely an opening attack.

Confusing PvE with zero danger

Problem: Disabled player damage leads you to ignore ARC threats or the possibility of reacquisition after a down.
Fix: Keep healing, cover and an exit plan; PvE lowers player-combat risk but does not remove environmental danger.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Entering Solo vs Squads for a routine material run

Problem: The XP bonus tempts you into a queue designed for higher PvP exposure.
Fix: Reserve the mode for deliberate level-40-plus progression attempts where the 20% end-of-round XP bonus is worth the risk.

Assuming the quest count or route is permanent

Problem: You rely on the May 1 count or an older route after an update changes available quests or traversal.
Fix: Treat “100 quests” as a Riven Tides-era figure, verify the current quest panel and consult an up-to-date walkthrough for location-specific instructions.

Final recommendation

For most solo quests, deploy the Bettina or Anvil primary with Bobcat or Canto, a Light–Medium shield, Looting Survivor Mk.3, smoke and healing sprays. Keep lure or revive utility only when the objective justifies the inventory cost. Use a cheaper version for travel and collection, strengthen the combat and healing plan for ARC-kill objectives, and select PvE or Solo vs Squads only with their stated trade-offs in mind. That approach is more durable than chasing an unverified universal meta while ARC Raiders continues to change.
