Short answer: shortlist a current Google Pixel (including the Pixel 11 family) and a Samsung Galaxy S26-series phone, then choose according to software preference, size, price, storage and the sharing features you need with Apple users. Both product families document iPhone migration paths. Neither is a universal winner.
The important development is Apple’s own transfer flow in iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3. On a compatible Android phone, it can guide selected data and, where the carrier and devices qualify, an eSIM transfer. Android’s newer Switch setup and Samsung’s Smart Switch offer additional routes, but eligibility differs by model, operating-system version and carrier.

What Apple’s new transfer feature actually does
Apple’s iPhone-side transfer option is a setup flow rather than a guarantee that every part of an iPhone will be reproduced on every Android phone. Apple documents it for iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3 when the destination Android device is compatible. During Android setup, the new phone displays a QR code. You scan that code with the iPhone, select the categories offered by the setup assistant, and continue through the prompts. If the carrier and destination support it, the process can then move the iPhone’s eSIM.

Which transfer route should you use?
| Route | Where it appears | Connection | Important capabilities and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple’s iPhone transfer flow | Setup on a compatible Android phone with iOS 26.3 or later on the iPhone | QR-led setup; follow the connection offered on screen | Moves selected categories and may transfer eSIM when the carrier and devices qualify. It is not available on every phone. |
| Updated Android Switch | Select devices running Android 17 as the rollout reaches them | Wireless or cable | Can include Google Account data, passwords, photos, messages, contacts, eSIM and more. WhatsApp is handled separately after the initial migration. |
| Classic Android setup | Android phones that have not received the upgraded route | A cable is required for WhatsApp chat transfer; other options depend on the device | Most free apps may move. Purchased apps and private app data can require developer-specific steps. |
| Google Pixel transfer | Pixel setup, with additional-data support on Pixel 9 and later | According to the Pixel setup prompts, wireless or cable may be offered | Google’s transfer table shows that supported data depends on the source, destination and app. Pixel 9 and later can add additional data after initial setup. |
| Samsung Smart Switch | Galaxy phones moving from iOS or Android | Wireless, QR-based or wired; Samsung recommends wired transfer for diverse data sets | Can include photos, messages, contacts, calendars, apps, passwords and passkeys, call history, accessibility settings and eSIM information. One UI 9 on the eighth-generation Galaxy Z series supports a QR route that does not require Smart Switch on the iPhone. |
Prepare the iPhone and Android phone before you start
- Update both devices. Install the latest available software. Apple’s documented iPhone flow requires iOS 26.3 or iPadOS 26.3, while Android’s upgraded route is limited to select Android 17 devices during its rollout.
- Turn off iMessage. On the iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Messages and switch off iMessage before moving the SIM. This helps future messages route to your Android number rather than remaining associated with Apple’s messaging service.
- Charge both phones and use Wi-Fi. A migration can take time, and an interrupted setup may require starting a category again. Keep the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and both batteries well charged.
- Check storage. Compare the iPhone’s used storage with the Android phone’s available capacity. A phone that cannot hold the photo library, videos and messages will stop or omit content.
- Check eSIM eligibility. Ask the carrier whether your country, plan and exact Android model support electronic-SIM transfer. Do not assume that an eSIM on the iPhone can be moved simply because the Android phone has an eSIM menu.
- Collect account access. Have your Google Account credentials, Apple Account password, password-manager access and recovery codes available. Authenticator apps often need separate re-registration.
- Keep the iPhone. Do not erase, sell or mail it in until contacts, photos, messages, WhatsApp, authentication access and cellular service have all been checked.
How to use Apple’s QR-based iPhone-to-Android transfer
The wording varies by Android manufacturer, but the sequence documented by Apple is consistent:
- Turn on the new Android phone and begin its initial setup.
- Choose the option to copy or transfer data from an iPhone when it appears.
- Let the Android phone display its QR code. On the iPhone, open the camera and scan that code.
- Approve the connection and select the data categories you want to copy. The available categories depend on the destination device and software.
- When the setup offers eSIM transfer, read the carrier prompt carefully and approve it only if the listed number and plan are correct. If eSIM transfer is unavailable, follow the carrier’s physical-SIM or separate activation instructions.
- Leave both devices connected until the Android setup reports completion. Then sign in to the requested Google Account and open key apps to confirm their contents.
If the QR code does not appear, the phone may not support Apple’s route, the setup may have passed the relevant screen, or the device may be using a manufacturer-specific assistant instead. Restarting the new phone’s setup can expose the transfer choice again, but follow the manufacturer’s recovery instructions before resetting a phone that already contains data.

Android describes an upgraded setup experience rolling out to select Android 17 devices. Where available, it can transfer a Google Account, passwords, photos, messages, contacts, eSIM information and other personal data either wirelessly or by cable. The phone’s setup screen determines whether your model has received this route; Android 17 alone does not mean every manufacturer exposes identical options.

Android specifically tells switchers to turn off iMessage, check storage and use the QR-code setup when it is offered. WhatsApp data is treated separately after the initial migration in this upgraded flow. Follow the WhatsApp prompt on the Android phone rather than assuming that the first copy operation included chats.
In the classic flow, Android says a cable is needed for WhatsApp chat transfer. Most free apps may be reinstalled or moved, but Android does not promise that purchased iOS apps, their purchases or each app’s private database will follow you. Subscriptions can continue, yet billing remains with the original provider; check the developer’s instructions when an app is important to your work or security.
Moving to a Google Pixel
Google’s Pixel Help documentation covers transfer from iPhone and provides a data-type table with source, destination and app-specific caveats. Pixel 9 and later can add additional data after the initial setup, which is useful if you discover a missing category without wiping the phone.

Pixel setup checklist
- Start Pixel setup and select the iPhone transfer option.
- Use the connection method offered by the Pixel. If a cable is requested, use a data-capable cable rather than a charge-only lead.
- Choose the categories shown by the transfer assistant, then allow the copy to finish before configuring optional services.
- After reaching the home screen, open Google Photos, Contacts, Messages and the apps you use most. On Pixel 9 or later, use the post-setup add-data option if the assistant offers it.
Pixel is the more natural shortlist choice if you prefer Google’s Android interface and account integration. Google’s Store page promotes Tensor G6 and Titan M3 hardware for Pixel 11 phones, but those are manufacturer claims, not independent comparative test results; they should not be treated as proof that Pixel is faster or safer than every Galaxy model.

Moving to a Samsung Galaxy
Samsung Smart Switch supports moves from iOS or Android to Galaxy. Samsung lists photos, messages, contacts, calendars, apps, passwords and passkeys, call history, accessibility settings and eSIM information among the supported categories, subject to the exact phone and software.
Smart Switch procedure
- Open Smart Switch during Galaxy setup, or later at Settings > Accounts and backup > Bring data from old device if that menu is present on your model.
- Select iPhone or iPad as the source and choose wireless, QR-based or wired transfer as offered.
- For a large or varied library, prefer Samsung’s recommended wired method. Confirm that the cable and adapters carry data and match both phones’ connectors.
- Review the category list, including messages, photos, contacts, calendars, passwords or passkeys, call history, accessibility settings and eSIM information, then start the transfer.
- After setup, test cellular service and sign in to apps that require separate credentials.
With One UI 9 on the eighth-generation Galaxy Z series, Samsung describes QR-based transfer without installing Smart Switch on the iPhone. That capability is specific to the named Galaxy generation and software, not a promise for every Galaxy phone.
Pixel 11 or Galaxy S26: a practical comparison
| Consideration | Google Pixel 11 family | Samsung Galaxy S26 series |
|---|---|---|
| Documented iPhone migration | Pixel Help documents iPhone transfer; Pixel 9 and later can add data after setup. | Smart Switch documents iOS-to-Galaxy migration, including a broad list of categories. |
| Software experience | Google’s Android implementation and Google-account-centric services. | Samsung’s One UI interface and Galaxy-specific settings and services. |
| Apple-device sharing | Use standard Android sharing methods; no universal Apple-sharing feature is established here. | Samsung’s US page lists Quick Share with Apple devices for the S26 series, subject to software and service requirements. |
| Hardware claims in current materials | Google promotes Tensor G6 and Titan M3 on its current Pixel 11 Store page; no independent comparison is established. | The cited materials establish migration and sharing eligibility, not a universal performance ranking. |
| Best fit when… | You want Google’s interface and a Pixel-specific post-setup transfer option. | You prefer One UI, want Smart Switch, or value the currently documented US Quick Share support. |
| What to verify before purchase | Exact model, Android version, storage and whether your preferred transfer path appears during setup. | Exact S26 model, One UI version, Quick Share requirements, storage and Smart Switch method. |
Price, dimensions and storage tiers vary by market and configuration, and the available materials do not establish one model as the best value globally. Compare the local price and the size you can comfortably use, then confirm the exact software eligibility rather than relying on a family name.

Data that usually needs extra attention
- WhatsApp: The upgraded Android route handles WhatsApp separately after initial migration; the classic route requires a cable for chat transfer. Follow the on-screen WhatsApp process and verify recent conversations.
- Paid apps and purchases: Free apps may move or reinstall, but purchased iOS apps and in-app purchases are not guaranteed to transfer. Contact the developer and check whether an Android version exists.
- Private app data: Banking, health, enterprise and authenticator apps commonly require a fresh sign-in or device registration. A copied app icon does not prove that its secure data moved.
- eSIM: Transfer depends on country, carrier, plan and exact device. Test a call, text and mobile-data session before disposing of the iPhone.
- Messages: Turning off iMessage before the switch prevents future routing problems, but inspect message history on the Android phone before declaring the migration complete.
- Photos and videos: Large libraries can exceed free storage. Check counts, albums and several original-quality files, not just the presence of the gallery app.
- Passwords and passkeys: Android’s upgraded route and Samsung’s listed Smart Switch categories may include them, but app-level credentials can still require approval or re-enrollment.
Using AirPods and other Apple accessories afterward
AirPods can pair with Android through Bluetooth, so an existing pair does not automatically become useless after the switch. Android compatibility does not establish full parity with Apple-only features, however; expect to configure ordinary Bluetooth audio and verify controls, microphone behavior and battery reporting for your particular model.

Samsung’s US documentation says Quick Share with Apple devices is available on the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 as of July 2026, with software and service requirements. Confirm that the exact phone, region and settings qualify before buying for that feature. A Pixel or another Galaxy may still exchange files through standard methods, but the cited materials do not establish the same Apple-device Quick Share support for every model.

The transfer option is missing
Check the Android model and software version, then restart the setup assistant. Apple’s flow is limited to compatible Android devices; Android’s upgraded Switch route is limited to select Android 17 devices; Samsung and Pixel expose their own assistants. If the phone has already completed setup, use its documented post-setup import option where available rather than assuming a factory reset is necessary.
The QR code will not scan
Increase screen brightness, clean both camera lenses, remove a privacy filter that obscures the code and hold the iPhone steady. Ensure the iPhone has Wi-Fi and that the Android phone is still on the transfer screen. A manufacturer’s Smart Switch or cable route may be the correct alternative if the Apple QR flow is not supported.

eSIM activation fails
Stop before deleting the old eSIM. Confirm carrier eligibility, country support, the phone’s unlocked status and the exact number shown in the prompt. Ask the carrier for a replacement QR code or manual activation instructions, then test calling, texting and mobile data on the Android phone.

Some apps or chats are absent
Check whether the transfer used the upgraded or classic Android route, because WhatsApp handling differs. Reinstall apps from Google Play, sign in manually and contact developers about paid purchases or private data. Keep the iPhone available until the missing information has been recovered.
The Android phone runs out of space
Stop the copy, remove unnecessary downloads from the destination and choose only essential categories. Expandable storage is not universal, so do not assume a memory card will solve the problem. Cloud photo storage or a staged transfer may be safer than repeatedly restarting a full migration.
A decision framework for Apple switchers
- Start with compatibility. Write down the exact Android model, its Android or One UI version, your iPhone’s iOS version and your carrier. Eliminate phones that cannot use your desired transfer route or eSIM.
- Choose the interface. Select Pixel if Google’s Android implementation suits you; select Galaxy if One UI, Smart Switch or documented Apple-device Quick Share matters more.
- Match the migration method to your data. A wireless QR flow is convenient for supported data. A wired transfer is preferable when you have a large library, many categories or WhatsApp chats that require the classic cable route.
- Budget for storage, not just the handset. A lower-priced configuration can be a poor fit if it cannot hold your iPhone’s photos and videos. Compare local storage tiers and the actual used space on the iPhone.
- Plan the first week. Reserve time to re-register authenticator and banking apps, verify passkeys, test cellular service and check messages before retiring the old phone.
Bottom line: the “best” Android depends on the switch you need
Apple’s iOS 26.3 transfer flow makes moving selected iPhone data to a compatible Android phone more straightforward, and eSIM transfer can be included when the carrier and devices qualify. Android’s newer Switch route, Google’s Pixel tools and Samsung Smart Switch broaden the choices, but none guarantees a perfect copy of every app and purchase.
For a Google-style Android experience, put the Pixel 11 family on your shortlist. For One UI, Smart Switch and the currently documented US Quick Share support with Apple devices, compare the Galaxy S26 series. Before ordering, verify the exact model, software, storage, wired-or-wireless method and carrier eSIM support. The phone that completes those checks for your particular iPhone and plan is the practical winner.
