The best Android local multiplayer game depends on how you want to connect: share one screen, pass one phone between turns, or use two or more phones on Bluetooth or the same Wi-Fi network. For a party, consider BombSquad; for same-device play, BADLAND or Riptide GP: Renegade; for two nearby phones, DUAL!; and for a shared world, Minecraft Bedrock or Terraria. Check the current Google Play listing and installed edition for the mode you need—“offline” does not guarantee that setup, updates, or first launch work without internet.

Player limits and modes can change, so treat reported numbers as details to verify against the current listing.
Party games for a group
BombSquad: short rounds for a mixed-skill group
BombSquad is the party-game pick when you want a rotation of quick mini-games rather than one long campaign. RottenWiFi’s September 8, 2026 guide reports local or networked multiplayer for up to eight and describes controller options. That is a secondary-source figure, not a guaranteed limit for every Android version or play mode; check the current listing and in-game room before inviting a larger group. The exact meaning of “offline” also depends on the mode: confirm that the local setup you intend to use does not require internet access.
Spaceteam: make communication the game
Spaceteam centers on players calling instructions to one another, making it a better fit for a noisy social session than a quiet head-to-head match. Secondary coverage describes local Wi-Fi and Bluetooth play, but current app behavior and store availability were not verified. Check that the app is available for your devices and that its current edition supports the connection you plan to use.

Games for one shared screen
BADLAND: shared-device multiplayer
Android Authority describes BADLAND as supporting up to four players on one device, with controller support. It suits a group that wants to gather around a single screen rather than connect several phones. Since the precise controller setup can depend on the device and current game build, confirm compatibility before relying on controllers.
Riptide GP: Renegade: split-screen racing
For racing on one device, Android Authority describes Riptide GP: Renegade as offering split-screen play for up to four players. The guide says four controllers are required, so this is a less convenient choice if everyone expects to use only touch controls. Check the current game listing and controller setup before choosing it for a group.

Two-phone games for a quick match
DUAL!: a focused nearby-phone duel
DUAL! is built around two nearby phones, making it a natural option when each player wants a separate screen. The available connection mode can vary by edition, so install the same current version on both devices and verify whether that version uses Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or both. Do not assume that two editions with the same title will connect.
Sea Battle 2: take turns by Bluetooth or on one phone
Sea Battle 2 offers a slower, turn-based alternative. Android Authority describes Bluetooth play as well as pass-and-play, where players take turns on the same device. Confirm the current edition’s mode before installing, especially if one phone and no network is the point of the choice.

Longer co-op worlds: Minecraft Bedrock and Terraria
Minecraft Bedrock: build in an ongoing world
Minecraft Bedrock is the option for players who want to return to a shared world, rather than finish a short match. It is not Java Edition, and joining a local world can depend on account, privacy, multiplayer, and version settings. Use the same current Android edition and version on each device, and make sure the host’s world and permissions allow other players to join. Do not count on an account-free first launch.
Terraria: 2D exploration and boss progression
Terraria offers a different kind of shared session: 2D exploration, crafting, combat, and progression toward boss fights. It may suit a group that wants clearer goals than an open-ended building world. Current Android LAN discovery, player limits, and setup requirements are not established here; verify those details for the exact edition before organizing a longer session.

Set up local play and troubleshoot connection failures
- Install matching editions and versions. Update each phone and compare the game’s edition and version; different releases may not connect.
- Choose the intended local mode. Look for explicit labels such as local, LAN, same Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, pass-and-play, or shared-screen. A generic “multiplayer” option may lead to online matchmaking instead.
- Put devices on a private shared network. Join the same private Wi-Fi network, or use the game’s supported Bluetooth connection. Do not assume that being connected to the same router means devices can discover one another.
- Create the room or world on the host device. Keep that device active for games that rely on a hosted world, then have the other players join through the game’s local discovery or invite flow.
- If discovery fails, test a phone hotspot. Some guest networks isolate connected devices and block local traffic. A hotspot is a useful first test; if it works, the router or network configuration may be preventing device-to-device discovery.
For occasional play, a phone hotspot may be enough. A travel router is more relevant for groups that meet regularly or repeatedly encounter networks that block local discovery. Use a controller only when the specific game and Android device support it; phone-native choices such as DUAL! do not need one.
Check before you install
- Does the game support the exact arrangement you want: one screen, pass-and-play, Bluetooth, or LAN/Wi-Fi?
- How many devices and players does that mode require, and does the current edition state a player limit?
- Does it need controllers, an account, a host device, or internet access for the mode or first launch?
- Are all players able to install the same current edition in their region?
These checks matter because the cited sources are editorial guides rather than official live game listings. Availability, regional editions, modes, limits, and account requirements can change.
