The right substitute depends on the actual price you can buy today, your resolution and games, ray-tracing and upscaling priorities, power supply, case clearance, and whether you use creative or AI software. AMD’s published prices are launch reference figures from February 2025, not current retail quotes, and no source establishes a universal percentage saving versus Nvidia.

These are alternatives, not guaranteed bargains. A card is good value only when its current local price, performance in your games, features and ownership requirements line up.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT: the high-performance alternative
Specifications and launch context
AMD lists 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and 304 W total board power for the RX 9070 XT. Its March 2025 quick-reference material recommends a 750 W power supply. AMD’s February 28, 2025 announcement gave the card a $599 US suggested etailer price (SEP), with partner-card availability expected from March 6, 2025. Those dates and figures describe the launch; they do not tell you what a retailer charges in October 2026 or whether stock exists in your region.
#1 Best Overall
- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
When comparing listings, identify the exact board partner and model. A factory-overclocked card can have a different power limit, connector arrangement, dimensions and warranty from AMD’s reference specification. Measure the case’s GPU length and thickness, allow room for the power cable to bend safely, and confirm the manufacturer’s PSU recommendation for that specific model.
Who should choose it
- Gamers targeting 1440p with high settings or high refresh rates who find the card’s current price attractive.
- Buyers who want 16 GB of VRAM for demanding textures and future game installations.
- Systems with a quality 750 W-class PSU and enough case airflow.
Do not buy it solely because a historical $599 figure looks lower than an Nvidia listing. Compare current prices and results in the games you actually play, with the same resolution, quality preset, ray-tracing setting and upscaler mode.
AMD Radeon RX 9070: lower power, same memory capacity
What changes from the XT
The RX 9070 also has 16 GB of GDDR6, but AMD specifies 220 W total board power, substantially below the XT’s 304 W. AMD’s quick-reference guide recommends a 650 W PSU for the RX 9070. AMD announced a $549 US SEP on February 28, 2025; this is a launch reference point rather than a current price.

When it makes more sense
Choose the RX 9070 when a lower-power system, quieter cooling or a smaller PSU matters and the live price difference from the XT is meaningful. It can also be the more practical option for a compact case, provided the chosen board physically fits. The lower board-power rating does not by itself establish a particular frame rate or efficiency advantage in your games, so use independent, like-for-like tests for the titles and settings you care about.
Intel Arc B580: budget option with a software checklist
Hardware and features
TechRadar’s 2026 graphics-card guide identifies the Arc B580 as its budget pick and reports 12 GB of GDDR6, 190 W total graphics power and a recommended 450 W PSU. Treat those numbers as the guide’s reported specifications and verify the exact product page before purchase.

- Dual-ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as standard conventional sleeve bearings designs
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
Intel’s Arc overview describes a feature set that includes XeSS upscaling and frame generation, hardware ray tracing, AI engines and media capabilities. Feature availability and behavior depend on the GPU model, driver and application. Intel also documents specific compatibility requirements for AI Playground, so do not assume that every Arc card or every system supports every AI workflow without checking those requirements.
Best use cases
- 1080p gaming where the card’s current price is clearly below competing options.
- Players whose main titles have mature Arc drivers and acceptable results in current reviews.
- Media-focused PCs that can benefit from the supported encode, decode and display features.
Arc is more dependent on software support than a simple specification table suggests. Before buying, search for recent tests of your game list and confirm that your operating-system version, motherboard firmware and driver branch are supported. A budget recommendation from one publication is not a universal ranking.

The same 2026 guide describes the Arc B570 as a cheaper 1080p alternative. The supplied evidence does not establish a current price, detailed specifications or a complete performance comparison, so treat it as a candidate to investigate rather than a definitive recommendation. Require a current review that tests your games, verify memory and power details on the exact listing, and compare its total cost with the B580 and Radeon cards available locally.
How to compare value without misleading yourself
1. Record the real purchase price
Use the delivered price for the exact card, including sales tax, shipping and any required adapter. Note the date, retailer, stock status and return period. AMD’s $549 and $599 figures are dated US launch SEPs from February 2025; they should not be copied into a 2026 shopping table as if they were live prices. The same caution applies to any temporary sale or regional listing.
2. Match the resolution and settings
A 1080p esports result, a 1440p ultra result and a 4K ray-traced result answer different questions. Compare cards using the same game version, graphics preset, resolution, ray-tracing state, upscaler and frame-generation setting. If a review uses an AMD-run test, label it as AMD’s test and keep its game list and test configuration attached to the claim; do not generalize it to every title.

3. Check memory needs
The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 each have 16 GB of GDDR6. The B580 specification reported by TechRadar is 12 GB. VRAM capacity affects the settings you can sustain in texture-heavy games, but it does not replace a complete performance test. Look for evidence at your intended resolution and texture quality rather than treating capacity as a frame-rate guarantee.
4. Calculate power and cooling headroom
AMD’s published board-power figures are 304 W for the RX 9070 XT and 220 W for the RX 9070, with recommended PSUs of 750 W and 650 W respectively. TechRadar reports 190 W TGP and a 450 W recommended PSU for the B580. These are reference points, not permission to ignore the exact board’s manual. Include CPU consumption, drives, fans, transient headroom and PSU age in your calculation. A higher-wattage supply with the correct connectors is preferable to operating at its limit.
5. Verify physical fit
- Compare the card’s length, height and slot thickness with the case manufacturer’s limits.
- Check whether front radiators, drive cages or bottom fans reduce available GPU space.
- Confirm the connector location and leave clearance so the cable is not sharply bent against the side panel.
- For a small-form-factor build, use the exact board-partner dimensions rather than the GPU family name.
6. Consider applications beyond games
Ask whether you need a particular video editor, 3D renderer, plug-in, machine-learning framework or AI application. Gaming-first advice can be wrong for a workstation. The cited budget recommendation specifically cautions that its pick is not the guide’s preferred choice for creative or AI use. Check the application vendor’s supported APIs, driver requirements and acceleration features before spending money.
7. Price in ownership risk
Compare warranty length and region, retailer return terms, support reputation, included adapters and the cost of replacing a failed card. A slightly cheaper listing with no practical return path can be worse value than a nearby, returnable listing.
Buying procedure: a repeatable checklist
- Write down your target. Record monitor resolution, refresh rate, games, quality preset, ray-tracing preference and whether upscaling or frame generation is acceptable.
- Set a delivered-price ceiling. Check several local retailers on the same day and save the exact model numbers. Do not substitute AMD’s historical launch SEP for a live quote.
- Shortlist two or three cards. For example, compare RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 on a 750 W or 650 W system, then include B580 if your budget and software fit its requirements.
- Read recent, like-for-like tests. Prefer reviews that include your games and disclose settings. Separate measured results from the reviewer’s “best” label.
- Validate the build. Check PSU wattage and connectors, case clearance, motherboard slot access, monitor outputs and operating-system support.
- Check workload compatibility. Confirm support for your creative or AI applications, codecs and plug-ins before ordering.
- Buy with an exit plan. Keep the receipt, preserve packaging and test your own games during the return window.
Installation and first-boot checks
- Shut down the PC, switch off the PSU and disconnect the power cable.
- Remove the old card and install the new card in the primary full-length PCIe slot, securing the bracket to the case.
- Attach every power connector specified by the board manufacturer; do not rely on a loose or improperly seated adapter.
- Reconnect the monitor to the new card, not the motherboard video output.
- Boot into the operating system, remove conflicting display drivers when the manufacturer’s instructions call for it, and install the current driver package for the exact GPU family.
- Restart, confirm the card and memory amount in the driver panel, then run a short game session while watching temperatures, clocks, fan behavior and error messages.
- Enable XeSS, frame generation or other features only after establishing a baseline. Test image quality and latency in each game rather than assuming the highest setting is best.
Common failure modes and fixes
The card is not detected
Power the system off and reseat the card and its connectors. Check that the monitor cable is connected to the GPU, the PSU switch is on, and the motherboard firmware supports the card. If the problem persists, test with one display and the latest stable driver.

Games crash after installation
Perform a clean driver installation according to the GPU maker’s instructions, remove overclocks, update the game and operating system, and test without frame generation or ray tracing. If only one title fails, check that game’s current driver notes and known issues.
Unexpected noise or heat
Confirm that the case fans have a clear intake and exhaust path, the card is not pressed against a side panel, and the chosen fan curve is functioning. Compare temperatures with the board manufacturer’s specification; do not infer a defect from a brief fan ramp during startup.
Performance is below a review
Match the review’s resolution, preset, driver, CPU class and upscaling settings. Background recording, a slower CPU, single-channel memory or a power limit can change results. Compare several games before concluding that the card is faulty.
Which card should you buy?
