There is no single store that replaces Amazon for every kind of purchase. For broad everyday shopping, compare Walmart and Target; for electronics, check Best Buy; and for a familiar brand or a specific product category, consider buying directly from a specialist retailer. Before placing an order, compare the delivered price, who sells the item, delivery or pickup options, and the return terms.

How to compare stores before you buy
- Compare the same item. Check model numbers, size, color, included accessories, and condition so a lower listed price is not for a different version.
- Identify the seller. A product appearing on a retailer’s site may be sold by that retailer or by a third-party marketplace seller. Check the listing’s seller information and who handles fulfillment.
- Compare the delivered total. Include shipping and any other listed fees, rather than comparing item prices alone.
- Check delivery or pickup for your location. Availability and timing can vary by address; confirm the estimate shown for your order.
- Read the return and refund terms. Look for the return window, who pays return shipping, how refunds are issued, and whom to contact if the item is late or incorrect.
- Weigh memberships by actual use. If a store offers paid membership benefits, compare the fee with the delivery or other benefits you expect to use. Confirm current terms before joining.
When the listing is from a marketplace seller
Marketplace shopping can be useful when you want a wider selection, but the retailer’s name on the site does not necessarily mean it is the seller responsible for every part of the transaction. The Federal Trade Commission notes that marketplaces can differ in how listings are displayed, payments are processed, and other transaction details. Its guidance is to review seller terms, shipping fees, and return policies, and to use safer payment methods such as a credit card or secure payment system. Read the FTC’s online shopping guidance.

Walmart’s terms say a Marketplace Retailer is responsible for processing, delivery, applicable international shipping, returns, and customer service, except where Walmart performs certain services on the retailer’s behalf. Walmart says a retailer’s shipping information, return policy, customer-service information, and marketplace privacy policy are available on its Seller Information page. Is Best Buy’s price match useful against Amazon?
Best Buy’s price-match competitor list includes Amazon, Costco, Target, and Walmart, but its guarantee excludes products shipped from and sold by third-party Marketplace Sellers on those sites. The policy page gives an effective date of May 11, 2025. Check the current policy and the exact listing before relying on a match; a product listed on Amazon is not automatically eligible. The options above are practical places to compare, not proof of lower prices or better delivery than Amazon. No live, ZIP-code-specific price or delivery comparison is established here, and the survey figures do not measure retailer quality. Treat shipping, pickup, returns, marketplace responsibility, and membership benefits as listing- and location-specific details to verify at checkout. The FTC’s advice is simple: “Before you buy something online, shop around and check out sellers and products.”
