Walmart is the closest all-purpose Amazon alternative for most shoppers because it combines a broad catalog with grocery, pickup and a large store network. Choose Target when same-day delivery, household essentials and local store convenience matter most; Best Buy for electronics and technical support; and a manufacturer’s own store when authenticity, warranty handling or brand-specific offers are the priority.
The right choice depends less on the headline price than on the final delivered total, delivery promise, seller identity, return destination and warranty terms. Use the comparison and checklists below before placing an order.

These are different retail models rather than interchangeable websites. Walmart and Target combine their own inventory with stores and fulfillment services. A marketplace listing can place an independent seller beside first-party inventory. A direct store removes the marketplace intermediary, but it may have a narrower assortment or less convenient delivery.

What “Amazon alternative” can mean
Another general marketplace
A general marketplace lets you search across many categories and sellers. Walmart describes its Marketplace as third-party sellers listing alongside Walmart products, with a single secure checkout. That breadth makes it the practical substitute when you want one cart containing food, cleaning supplies, clothing and household goods. It also means the listing page deserves scrutiny: the retailer shown at checkout might not be the company shipping the package.

A retailer with physical stores
Store-based retailers can offer pickup, local inventory visibility and an in-person return route. Those services can outweigh a small online price difference when you need an item today or want to avoid repacking a return. Availability is local, and a product shown online may still be shipped from a distribution center or a third-party seller.
A direct-to-consumer brand store
Shopify defines direct-to-consumer (DTC) commerce as a brand selling through its own channels while retaining control of inventory, packing, shipping and returns. The trade-off is focus: a manufacturer’s site usually carries that brand’s products rather than a cross-category catalog. In exchange, you have a clearer chain of responsibility for authenticity, warranty registration and replacement parts.
Walmart: the broadest all-purpose alternative
Why Walmart is the default substitute
Walmart is the strongest starting point when you need a large assortment, groceries, recurring household purchases or store pickup. Walmart reports more than 4,600 U.S. locations. Its Marketplace page also describes more than 10,900 stores and e-commerce websites across 19 countries, illustrating the scale of the physical and online network.
DHL’s 2025 E-Commerce Trends Report recorded marketplace usage of 48% for Walmart compared with 60% for Amazon. Those figures describe usage in that report, not a guarantee that either site has the lowest price or fastest delivery for your particular item.
How Walmart Marketplace changes an order
Walmart says Marketplace sellers handle shipping, returns and customer service for their own orders. Eligible Marketplace purchases can be returned to a Walmart store within 30 days, subject to restrictions. That combination is useful: you may buy from an independent seller but still have a nearby store as a return destination when the item qualifies.

- The promised dispatch or delivery date, rather than a general sitewide shipping message.
- Whether the return goes to a Walmart store, to the seller by mail or to another location.
- Who provides warranty service and whether the product is new, refurbished or used.
Walmart advertises fast shipping expectations, but the actual promise varies with the product, seller, destination and inventory. Treat the date shown for your address as the controlling commitment.

- You are combining grocery or household replenishment with general merchandise.
- Pickup or a nearby store return is more valuable than a specialized support team.
- You want to compare Walmart-sold inventory and Marketplace listings in one checkout.
- You need a broad catalog but do not want every purchase to come from an independent seller.
Target: strongest for same-day convenience and essentials
What Circle 360 provides
Target’s help information lists these Circle 360 benefits: unlimited same-day delivery on eligible $35-plus orders with no markups, monthly freebies, an additional 30 days for eligible returns and free two-day shipping on hundreds of thousands of items. Eligibility and coverage vary by product and location, so the promise shown after you enter your address matters more than the general membership description.
Target is particularly effective for household essentials, beauty, home goods and branded products that you might otherwise pick up at a local store. Store pickup can remove a delivery wait, while same-day delivery is useful when the item is needed at home and the order meets the minimum.
Shipt’s broader same-day network
In a May 19, 2025 press release, Target said Circle 360 members could receive no-markup same-day delivery from more than 100 retailers and grocers in Shipt’s network. This expands the membership beyond Target’s own inventory, although participating retailers, delivery windows and eligible products depend on your market.
When Target is the better choice
- You value same-day delivery without an item-level markup on an eligible $35-plus order.
- Your regular purchases are essentials, beauty, home and other Target-centered categories.
- You want store pickup or an extra 30 days on eligible returns through Circle 360.
- You can use the membership often enough to justify its current fee.
Do not assume every online Target listing qualifies. Check the delivery method, order minimum, item eligibility and return window in the cart.

Best Buy is the more natural alternative when the purchase requires category knowledge rather than an everything-store catalog: computers, appliances, televisions, phones, accessories and related services. A specialist retailer can make it easier to identify compatible accessories, installation or technical support, but selection and pricing are concentrated in electronics.

Because that information is from a secondary comparison and membership benefits can change, verify the current terms on BestBuy.com before relying on them. Also distinguish Best Buy-sold inventory from any marketplace or partner listing, then review the applicable return and warranty policy.
When Best Buy is the better choice
- The product needs compatibility advice, installation or technical support.
- You want to inspect or collect an item through an electronics store.
- Manufacturer warranty handling and service options matter as much as the initial price.
- You are comparing a narrow set of electronics rather than filling a mixed-category cart.
Direct-to-brand stores: when buying from the maker makes sense
The main advantages
A direct store can provide a clearer responsibility chain. The manufacturer controls the inventory and can connect the order to warranty registration, replacement parts, firmware or product support. It may also offer configurations, bundles or promotions that are not available through a marketplace.
Dyson’s direct-benefits page summarizes the appeal: “Buy direct from the people who made it for exclusive offers and gifts.” That is a brand-specific promise, not a universal rule; compare the manufacturer’s price, delivery estimate, return window and support coverage with those of a retailer.

- The catalog may cover only one brand, so you cannot consolidate unrelated purchases.
- Shipping can be slower or more expensive if the brand has fewer warehouses.
- Returns may require mailing the product to the manufacturer instead of visiting a local store.
- A brand’s direct price is not automatically lower than a retailer’s sale price.
When direct is the safer purchase
- Counterfeit risk or grey-market inventory would be costly.
- You expect to need parts, repairs or a warranty claim.
- The manufacturer offers a configuration or bundle unavailable elsewhere.
- Product registration and support history are important for the item’s useful life.
Compare delivery speed, pickup and order minimums correctly
“Fastest” is not a permanent ranking. It changes with your ZIP code, inventory location, cutoff time, item size, membership status and whether the product is sold by a third party. Same-day delivery is a service level for an eligible order, not a promise that every listing on the site arrives today.
- Enter your delivery address before comparing prices.
- Check whether the item is in a local store, a retailer warehouse or a seller’s facility.
- Record the exact delivery date and time window shown in the cart.
- Check the order minimum, membership requirement and any delivery fee.
- Compare pickup if the item is needed immediately; confirm that the store has reserved the exact model, size or color.
Target publishes a concrete Circle 360 threshold of $35 for eligible no-markup same-day delivery. Walmart’s delivery promise depends on the listing and seller. Direct-brand delivery depends on that manufacturer’s fulfillment network. For Best Buy, verify the current member and nonmember shipping terms at checkout.
Compare total cost instead of the item price
Calculate the delivered total for the same condition and quantity. Include the item price, shipping or delivery charge, membership allocation, taxes, required accessories and the cost of returning the product if it fails inspection.

- Membership: A recurring plan can be worthwhile for frequent deliveries, but a single order may be cheaper without it.
- Order minimums: A $35 threshold can encourage unnecessary additions; compare the cost of buying only what you need.
- Markup policy: “No markups” applies to eligible Target Circle 360 same-day deliveries as described by Target, not automatically to every service or retailer in a delivery network.
- Condition: New, refurbished and used products are not equivalent even when the model number matches.
- Returns: A low price is less attractive if return postage is expensive or the seller is difficult to reach.
Seller identity, authenticity and warranty checks
Marketplace convenience introduces a second decision: choosing the seller. A retailer’s logo on the page does not by itself prove that the retailer owns the inventory. Open the seller panel and read the “sold by,” “shipped by” and warranty details.

- Match the model number, capacity, color and included accessories with the manufacturer’s specification.
- Confirm whether the condition is new, refurbished or used.
- Read the seller’s return window and identify the physical return destination.
- Check who handles warranty claims: the retailer, the marketplace seller or the manufacturer.
- Save the invoice, serial number and listing details until the warranty period ends.
Buying direct reduces the number of parties involved, but it does not remove the need to read terms. A manufacturer can have exclusions, restocking rules or region-specific warranty coverage.
Returns: choose the route you can actually use
Walmart
Walmart states that eligible Marketplace returns may be accepted at Walmart stores within 30 days, subject to restrictions. Because Marketplace sellers handle their own shipping, returns and customer service, confirm eligibility for the specific item before ordering.
Target
Circle 360 lists an extra 30 days for eligible returns. “Eligible” is the important word: product category, condition and purchase method can affect the window and destination.
Best Buy and direct brands
Return and service terms vary by product and seller. For expensive electronics, save the packaging and accessories until the item passes testing. For a direct purchase, identify the manufacturer’s required authorization or shipping process before discarding the box.
Privacy and loyalty-program trade-offs
Convenience programs generally require an account, address, payment details and order history. Loyalty benefits can lower delivery costs or add freebies, but they also connect more purchases to one profile. Review the data, marketing and renewal settings in each account, and do not subscribe solely to obtain a one-time shipping benefit.

Using a retailer’s pickup or same-day service also reveals your local store and delivery address. That information may be necessary for fulfillment; decide whether the convenience is worth maintaining another retail account.
A decision guide for common shopping situations
You need a mixed cart of everyday goods
Start with Walmart. Compare Walmart-sold and Marketplace listings, then choose pickup or the listing with the clearest return route. If most items are Target essentials and you already use Circle 360, compare Target’s same-day eligibility and final total.
You need an item today
Check local pickup first at Target or Walmart, then confirm that the exact variant is reserved. If delivery is preferable, Target Circle 360 is the clearest documented option for eligible $35-plus same-day orders without markups.
You are buying a laptop, appliance or television
Compare Best Buy’s product expertise, store support and current shipping terms with the manufacturer’s direct warranty and configuration options. Evaluate service and return logistics, not just the advertised price.
You are worried about counterfeits or future repairs
Use the manufacturer’s direct store when its price and delivery are reasonable. You gain a clearer authenticity and warranty path, even if the catalog is narrower.
You shop across many local retailers
Check whether Circle 360’s Shipt network covers the retailers and grocers you use. Target said in May 2025 that the network included more than 100 retailers and grocers, but participation is market-specific.
Five-minute checkout checklist
- Retailer: Is the order sold by the retailer, a named Marketplace seller or the manufacturer?
- Condition: Is it new, refurbished or used, and are all accessories included?
- Total: What is the final delivered amount after shipping, delivery fees, taxes and membership effects?
- Timing: What date and time window applies to your address?
- Return: Where will you take or ship the item, and how long is the eligible window?
- Warranty: Who will repair or replace it, and what documentation is required?
- Account: Does a membership auto-renew, and are the privacy and marketing settings acceptable?
Bottom line by shopping priority
- Best broad replacement: Walmart, especially for grocery, pickup and a large mixed assortment.
- Best same-day and essentials option: Target with Circle 360 when your order and location qualify.
- Best electronics specialist: Best Buy, after checking current membership, shipping and service terms.
- Best authenticity and manufacturer support: The brand’s own direct-to-consumer store.
Recheck membership benefits, delivery coverage, seller status and return rules at checkout. Those details change more often than the basic strengths of each retail model.
