If you want a personal screen from a laptop, phone, or handheld you already own, start with host-connected display glasses such as XREAL One Pro or VITURE Beast. If you want spatial-computing apps without relying on that host, XREAL AURA and Meta VR Glasses are the announced alternatives—but neither is a proven retail choice yet: AURA is expected in Fall 2026, while Meta plans sales for Spring 2027.
The key distinction is what the glasses are for. Display glasses act as a private screen for a compatible source; AURA and Meta’s system pair glasses with a separate compute puck and spatial-computing features. The best fit depends on your devices, whether you want to see the real world directly or through cameras, and which apps and interaction style matter to you.

How the four options differ
| Product | What it is | Published display details | Price and timing stated by the company |
|---|---|---|---|
| XREAL AURA | Optical-see-through glasses paired with a dedicated Android XR compute puck | 70° field of view; Sony Micro-OLED, 1920 × 1200 pixels per eye; up to 120 Hz. XREAL lists world-facing tracking cameras, 6DoF spatial anchoring, hand tracking, and support for prescription inserts. | Base-model price will not exceed US$1,500 before tax; launch expected in Fall 2026. Final pricing and configurations are to be announced closer to launch. XREAL product page |
| Meta VR Glasses | Glasses with a separate compute, battery, and storage puck connected by an optical tether; Meta describes open sides and a passthrough camera | Meta announces a 5K micro-OLED “Infinite Display,” 37 pixels per degree, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. It claims up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback. | US$1,299.99 in the US; sales planned for Spring 2027. These are announcement details, not independently verified retail performance. Meta announcement |
| XREAL One Pro | USB-C video-connected display glasses for a compatible device | XREAL describes 1080p per eye and a 57° field of view for One Pro; the One Series announcement also says it supports prescription inserts. | Not stated in the cited announcement. Check the current listing and device requirements. XREAL One Series announcement |
| VITURE Beast | Host-connected XR display glasses for media, gaming, and travel | VITURE reports a 174-inch virtual screen and 1,250-nit peak brightness; these are vendor claims, not controlled comparison results. | VITURE’s page lists $549; verify current price and stock. VITURE product page |
Specifications come from the named manufacturers and are not directly comparable in every case: for example, a virtual-screen size is not the same measure as field of view or pixels per degree. The September 2026 Tom’s Guide hands-on comparison offers reviewer observations on the two puck-based systems, but comfort and display judgments remain subjective rather than universal results.
Best alternatives by what you want to do
For a private screen from hardware you already own: XREAL One Pro
One Pro is the clearest fit if your main goal is watching video, gaming, or placing a large personal display in front of you using a compatible source. It is not the same architecture as AURA: XREAL describes One Pro as a display connected to a device that outputs video over USB-C, rather than a standalone Android XR computer with its own compute puck.
#1 Best Overall
- YOUR PRIVATE 147” BIG SCREEN, ANYWHERE — Plug the a01+ into your phone, tablet, handheld, or laptop and a giant 147” screen appears in front of you—for movies, gaming, or getting work done on the couch, on a flight, or in bed. A true portable display you wear, in a soda-can-sized 210g case that drops in your pocket.
- ALWAYS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU — The screen follows your view with smooth, stabilized tracking and stays centered as you look around—nothing to anchor or set up, and no drift to reset. Press play and your big screen is simply there.
- 62G — LIGHT ENOUGH TO FORGET — At just 62g, with three nose-pad sizes and flexible temples, the a01+ stays comfortable through a long movie or flight, even lying down.
- LOOKS LIKE SUNGLASSES, NOT A GADGET — A slim, sunglasses-style frame with a signature semi-transparent chassis and neon logo—light and low-profile enough to actually wear out.
- WORKS WITH YOUR USB-C GEAR — No Battery to Charge — Connects and powers over a single USB-C DisplayPort cable: iPhone 15/16/17, iPad, DP-capable Android phones, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Mac and PC. Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and older (Lightning) iPhones need an adapter. For long phone sessions, add the XREAL Hub to charge and watch at once.
Before buying, check that the exact phone, laptop, or handheld supports video output over USB-C. Some setups may need an adapter, and compatibility can depend on the source device. Confirm the current model, listing availability, and prescription-insert fit as well.
For another host-connected option: VITURE Beast
Beast is another candidate for a personal display when you plan to connect a compatible device rather than buy into a dedicated spatial-computing platform. VITURE lists it at $549 and advertises a 174-inch virtual screen and 1,250-nit peak brightness. Those figures describe VITURE’s claims; the available evidence does not establish a controlled head-to-head result against AURA, Meta VR Glasses, or One Pro.

AURA and Meta VR Glasses are the options here designed around a separate compute puck and spatial-computing features. AURA is described as optical see-through: the physical world remains directly visible rather than being presented as camera imagery. Meta describes open sides and passthrough cameras. AURA lists 6DoF anchoring and hand tracking. Meta announces hand and eye interaction, a multi-screen workspace, video and 3D media, and games. Meta also names services including Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN, Tubi, Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+. App availability and feature support may vary by service and region; check the launch details for your location and intended apps.
Because both are future-launch products as of October 7, 2026, treat their published features, prices, and timing as announcements rather than confirmed buying outcomes. Availability, final configurations, comfort, image quality, and runtime in real use remain to be established.

What to compare before choosing
1. Display architecture and source device
First decide whether you want glasses to act as a screen for a device you already own or a spatial-computing system with its own puck. For One Pro and Beast, confirm that your intended source can output video over USB-C and whether you need an adapter. For AURA or Meta, check the announced apps and platform features against the tasks you expect to do.
2. How the real world appears
AURA’s optical-see-through design leaves the real world directly visible through the glasses, according to XREAL. Meta describes a passthrough camera, which presents a camera view of the surroundings. These are different approaches, not a simple quality ranking; try the experience in person if that distinction is important to you.

- The New Optic Engine-X-Prism Optics: XREAL’s advanced lens and projection system—ultra-slim, precision-engineered optics that project a large, sharp virtual screen right in front of your eyes, while still letting you see your real surroundings clearly. With a best-in-class 57° FOV, Optic Engine 4.0 recreates the feeling of watching a massive 171-inch screen from four meters away—all in lightweight, compact design. - Experience True AR with 6 DoF, Spatial Anchor Anytime: Pairing with XREAL Eye, anchor your screen anywhere in your room, so it stays perfectly fixed in place—even as you walk around, lean in, or change your position. Unlike 3DoF, which keeps the screen at a constant distance relative to your head movements, 6DoF keeps your virtual screen locked to a real spot in your space for true spatial freedom and a more natural, immersive AR experience.
- REAL 3D – Turn everything you watch into an immersive 3D experience: REAL 3D Now Available on All One Series Glasses, instantly transforming all your content—from games and movies to apps and photos—into true 3D with a single switch. Experience richer depth and lifelike visuals across everything you watch or play.
- 57°FOV, 171'' Spatial Screen – More Immersive Visual Experience: Experience a virtual screen starting at 171 inches wide, filling your view with blockbuster visuals, thanks to XREAL’s advanced optics and industry-leading 57° FOV. Powered by Sony’s 0.55' Micro-OLED display technology and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, get swept into your games or movies with immersion that rivals traditional home theaters—without the size, setup, or space concerns.
3. Display figures and what they do—and do not—tell you
Resolution per eye, field of view, pixels per degree, refresh rate, dimming, and edge clarity describe different aspects of a display. AURA’s published resolution and refresh rate, One Pro’s resolution and field of view, and Meta’s pixels-per-degree figure should not be collapsed into one “best screen” number. The published figures do not by themselves establish perceived sharpness, edge quality, or long-session comfort.
4. Interaction, tracking, and ergonomics
Compare the interaction you need: XREAL lists world-facing tracking cameras, 6DoF anchoring, and hand tracking for AURA; Meta announces hand and eye interaction. A demo or specification does not establish tracking quality over prolonged use.
Also consider the whole system, not just glasses weight. Meta states that its glasses weigh about 100 g, but its compute, battery, and storage sit in a separate puck connected by an optical tether. Where the puck can be carried, how the cable routes, and how long you plan to wear the setup all matter; the glasses figure alone does not establish full-system comfort.
5. Prescription, runtime, price, and availability
XREAL says AURA supports insertable prescription lenses, and its base-model price will not exceed US$1,500 before tax. Meta claims up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback and announced a US price of US$1,299.99. One Pro’s announcement says the series supports prescription inserts. These are company-stated specifications or plans, not a complete comparison of final retail configurations; confirm insert compatibility, regional availability, final pricing, and runtime for your use before buying.
Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Choose a host-connected display first if your main use is video or gaming from a laptop, phone, or handheld and you have verified video output and adapter needs.
- Consider One Pro if its announced 1080p-per-eye, 57° field of view, and insert support fit your needs and the current listing is available.
- Consider Beast if its current price, compatibility, and vendor-described display claims suit your budget and use; do not read vendor figures as independent comparative testing.
- Wait for AURA or Meta’s system if you specifically want puck-based spatial computing, tracking, or multi-window and spatial apps, and can wait for retail availability and hands-on evidence.
- Recheck launch-region and service support if you are outside the US or depend on a particular streaming app, prescription solution, or platform feature.
