For the closest feature match, choose the Wooting 60HE v2. It is another compact 60% Hall-effect keyboard with Rapid Trigger and adjustable actuation. If you need arrow and navigation keys or wireless operation, the ASUS ROG Falchion RX Low Profile is the better fit: its 65% layout keeps those keys in a compact frame and supports Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz, and wired USB. The Razer Huntsman Mini is the straightforward choice for a conventional wired 60% optical keyboard.
The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 remains the reference point: a wired 60% board with OmniPoint 3.0 Adjustable HyperMagnetic switches, Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap, dynamic per-key lighting, double-shot PBT keycaps, and a detachable braided USB-C cable. This comparison uses published specifications and editorial coverage, not a fresh head-to-head test, so it does not claim a winner for latency, typing feel, durability, or value.

Quick comparison
| Keyboard | Layout and switch system | Connectivity and notable features | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 | 60%; OmniPoint 3.0 Adjustable HyperMagnetic switches | Wired USB-C; Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap, dynamic per-key lighting, double-shot PBT keycaps | The baseline for compact magnetic-switch gaming |
| Wooting 60HE v2 | 60%; Hall-effect switches | Wootility customization; Rapid Trigger, adjustable actuation, and multiple actions per key are reported by PC Gamer | The closest cited feature-class alternative |
| ASUS ROG Falchion RX Low Profile | 65% layout in a 60%-sized frame; ROG RX low-profile optical switches | Bluetooth for up to three devices, 2.4 GHz, or wired USB; arrow and navigation keys; touch panel and protective cover | Wireless use and dedicated arrow/navigation keys |
| Razer Huntsman Mini | 60%; linear optical switches | Wired USB-C; PBT keycaps; onboard storage for up to five profiles | A conventional wired 60% optical board |
The most important distinction is not a benchmark number. It is how much of the compact form factor you want to preserve. A true 60% board removes dedicated arrow, navigation, function-row, number-pad, and media-key clusters. The ASUS uses a 65% arrangement to return arrow and navigation keys while staying close to 60% footprint. The two 60% alternatives keep the small footprint but require more secondary-key shortcuts.

Magnetic adjustment in a 60% frame
SteelSeries describes the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 as a 60% keyboard using OmniPoint 3.0 Adjustable HyperMagnetic switches. Its Rapid Trigger feature is intended for fast key reset, while Rapid Tap is designed for rapid directional input. Dynamic per-key lighting, double-shot PBT keycaps, and the detachable braided USB-C cable address customization and maintenance rather than layout.

A 60% layout is efficient for a mouse-heavy desk because it removes the physical width of the function row, arrow cluster, navigation block, number pad, and dedicated media controls. The trade-off is permanent: those keys are not present as separate clusters. Windows Central’s May 4, 2025 review describes the resulting reliance on secondary shortcuts and a learning curve. If you frequently edit documents, use spreadsheet navigation, or play games that need dedicated arrows, layout should be the first filter—not switch technology.
What this comparison can and cannot establish
Published features show which boards offer Hall-effect or optical switches, which layouts they use, and how they connect. They do not establish that one board has lower real-world latency, a better typing sound, longer durability, or greater value. No controlled head-to-head measurements for those attributes are available here. Manufacturer pages are US or US-targeted listings, and current regional stock and pricing are not established, so check the seller and region you intend to use before ordering.
The best alternatives, explained
Wooting 60HE v2: the closest like-for-like replacement
Choose the Wooting 60HE v2 when you want to stay with a compact 60% layout while retaining the defining Hall-effect gaming ideas. PC Gamer’s 2026 guide describes it as a compact Hall-effect keyboard with Rapid Trigger, adjustable actuation, and multiple actions per key. Those capabilities place it in the same feature class as the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 rather than the simpler optical option.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Wootility is the customization environment cited for the board. Adjustable actuation lets you set when a key registers, while Rapid Trigger changes how quickly a key can reset after movement. Multiple actions per key can assign different behavior to one key depending on how it is pressed. These are configuration features, not proof of a universal gameplay advantage; the useful setting depends on the game, your input habits, and how much tuning you are willing to do.

N key rollover, and supports WIN key lock to prevent accidental touches in intense games
The physical compromise is the same as the Apex’s: a 60% board does not provide dedicated arrows, navigation keys, a function row, or a number pad. PC Gamer notes that shortcuts are needed to reach functions on the reduced layout. Before switching, identify the shortcuts for the keys you use most and practice them outside a competitive match.
- Pick it for: a compact Hall-effect alternative with adjustable input behavior.
- Do not pick it solely for: an assumed latency or performance win; this comparison contains no measured head-to-head result.
- Plan for: shortcut-based access to omitted key clusters and time spent configuring Wootility.
ASUS ROG Falchion RX Low Profile: compact wireless with real arrow keys
The ASUS ROG Falchion RX Low Profile changes the decision from “which 60% magnetic board?” to “how can I keep a small footprint without losing everyday keys?” ASUS specifies a 65% layout in a 60% frame. That arrangement retains arrow and navigation keys while remaining more compact than a full-size or tenkeyless keyboard.
Its ROG RX low-profile optical switches give it a different switch system from the magnetic boards. Optical and Hall-effect descriptions should not be treated as interchangeable: they describe different sensing technologies and do not, by themselves, predict identical feel or performance.
Connectivity is the model’s clearest advantage over the wired reference and the wired Razer option. It supports Bluetooth for up to three devices, 2.4 GHz wireless, and wired USB. That makes it suitable for moving between a gaming PC, laptop, and another Bluetooth device, provided you are comfortable managing the relevant connection mode. A touch panel and protective cover are additional hardware features listed for this model.

All 87 keys support N-key rollover for reliable performance when pressing multiple keys at once.
- Pick it for: dedicated arrow and navigation keys, wireless flexibility, and a compact board that is not a strict 60%.
- Accept: low-profile optical switches instead of Hall-effect adjustment.
- Consider: whether your desk, devices, and games benefit from Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz; if you only ever use a wired desktop, the extra modes may not matter.
Razer Huntsman Mini: a conventional wired 60% optical option
The Razer Huntsman Mini is the least feature-complex alternative in this group. It is a wired 60% keyboard with linear optical switches and PBT keycaps. Its detachable USB-C cable makes transport and cable replacement easier than a permanently attached lead, and onboard storage supports up to five profiles.
Unlike the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 and Wooting 60HE v2 descriptions, the cited Huntsman Mini information does not list Hall-effect sensing, Rapid Trigger, or adjustable actuation. It is therefore better understood as a conventional optical 60% board rather than a direct magnetic-feature substitute. Dedicated media keys are not listed, so expect the same general compact-layout reliance on secondary functions.
- Pick it for: a familiar wired 60% shape, linear optical switches, PBT keycaps, and local profile storage.
- Do not pick it for: wireless operation or a cited adjustable magnetic-switch feature set.
- Plan for: the same missing dedicated key clusters found on other 60% boards.
How to choose among the three alternatives
1. Start with the keys you cannot lose
Write down the keys you use without thinking: arrows, Insert/Delete, Home/End, Page Up/Page Down, function-row commands, or media controls. If several are essential, the ASUS 65% arrangement is the safest choice in this group because arrow and navigation keys remain dedicated. If you are comfortable holding a function key or using layers, the Wooting and Razer 60% boards preserve the smallest footprint.

Rank #4
- One-Knob Simplicity - A single control knob adjusts backlight brightness and media playback, so you manage lighting and volume without memorizing extra key combos.
- Switch Devices Without Re-Pairing, Zero Lag - Tri-mode connectivity jumps between USB-C, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless, so you can move from PC to laptop to tablet without sacrificing speed.
- Creamy Cushioned Typing Feel, Swap-Ready Anytime - Gasket-mounted construction with 5-layer noise dampening gives a soft, silky, quiet bounce, and the upgraded socket accepts almost any 3-pin or 5-pin switch.
- Vibrant RGB for a True eSports Vibe - Adjustable brightness and lighting modes bring your desk to life, day or night.
- Pro Software for Even Deeper Customization - Design your own lighting effects and program advanced macros with custom keybindings, so the board adapts to how you work or play.
2. Decide whether adjustable input is essential
There are two broad switch families here:
- Hall-effect or magnetic: the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 and Wooting 60HE v2 use the feature class associated in the cited material with Rapid Trigger and adjustable actuation.
- Optical: the ASUS uses ROG RX low-profile optical switches, while the Razer uses linear optical switches.
If your reason for leaving the Apex is that you want similar adjustable gaming input, start with the Wooting. If your reason is that you want a different physical feel, lower profile, or more keys, the optical choices may be more relevant. Switch type alone cannot tell you which board will sound or feel best to you.
3. Choose your connection pattern
| Your use | Most suitable cited option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One gaming PC, no wireless requirement | Wooting 60HE v2 or Razer Huntsman Mini | Both are presented as compact wired alternatives; choose by Hall-effect features versus conventional optical behavior. |
| Multiple devices or a cable-free desk | ASUS ROG Falchion RX Low Profile | Bluetooth supports up to three devices, and the board also offers 2.4 GHz and wired USB. |
| Portable compact setup | Any 60% model, if shortcuts are acceptable | The Wooting and Razer retain the smallest layout class; the ASUS remains compact but adds dedicated keys. |
The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3, Wooting 60HE v2, and Razer Huntsman Mini are described in the cited material as wired options. The ASUS is the only model here with Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz modes explicitly listed.
4. Match the profile and feel to your hands
The ASUS is specifically a low-profile design. The Razer is described with linear optical switches, and the Apex and Wooting are described through their adjustable magnetic systems. These labels communicate broad design differences, but they do not replace trying a switch or checking a return policy. A gaming feature can be technically attractive and still feel wrong for long typing sessions.
Practical setup guidance for a 60% keyboard
Moving from a full-size or tenkeyless board to the Apex, Wooting, or Razer is easier when you treat the function layer as part of the layout rather than as an emergency workaround.
Best Value
- Built with and for esports athletes for competition-level performance, speed and precision.
- Durable GX Blue Click switches deliver an audible and tactile click for a solid, secure keypress.
- Ultra-portable compact ten keyless design frees up table space for mouse movement. It’s easy to pack up and transport to tournaments.
- Use LIGHTSYNC to highlight keys and program static lighting patterns to onboard memory for tournament systems that don’t allow G HUB installations.
- Detachable Micro USB cables feature a three-pronged design for an easy, secure connection and safe transport in your travel bag.
- Map your daily keys. List arrows, navigation commands, function-row shortcuts, and media actions you use every day. Find each key’s secondary shortcut in the keyboard’s documentation before you begin gaming.
- Create a practice layer. Keep the default layer unchanged initially, then create a clearly named profile or layer for your preferred shortcuts. This lets you test a change without losing the baseline configuration.
- Use a noncompetitive game or text editor. Spend time moving, selecting text, and using common commands. The goal is to build muscle memory for two-key combinations before relying on them in a ranked match or work deadline.
- Separate actuation experiments from layout changes. If using the Wooting’s adjustable actuation or the Apex’s adjustable magnetic features, change one setting at a time. Otherwise, a missed input could come from the key threshold, the shortcut layer, or your new hand position.
- Keep a recovery path. Save a known-good profile and know how to return to it. The Razer’s onboard storage supports up to five profiles; the Wooting uses Wootility customization, while SteelSeries provides product information and a user manual for the Apex.
These steps do not make a 60% layout identical to a larger keyboard. They reduce the adjustment cost so you can decide whether the space saving is worth the additional key combinations.
Which alternative fits common priorities?
“I want the closest replacement for the Apex’s gaming features.”
Choose the Wooting 60HE v2. It is the only cited alternative that matches the Apex’s compact 60% and Hall-effect feature class while also listing Rapid Trigger and adjustable actuation. Treat “closest” as a specification match, not a measured performance verdict.
“I need arrow keys but still want a small keyboard.”
Choose the ASUS ROG Falchion RX Low Profile. Its 65% layout in a 60% frame retains arrow and navigation keys, avoiding the daily shortcut burden of a strict 60% board.
“I want wireless connectivity.”
Choose the ASUS. Bluetooth for up to three devices, 2.4 GHz, and wired USB are the listed connection choices. None of the other alternatives has wireless connectivity stated in the cited material.
“I want a simple wired optical 60%.”
Choose the Razer Huntsman Mini. Its linear optical switches, PBT keycaps, detachable USB-C cable, and onboard storage for up to five profiles address the conventional compact-keyboard brief without claiming magnetic-switch features.
“I am unsure whether I can live with 60%.”
Start with the ASUS if arrow and navigation access is a concern. A 65% layout tests compactness without requiring you to relearn those key clusters. Move to a 60% only after you are comfortable with function-layer shortcuts or have confirmed that your games and applications rarely need the omitted keys.
Limitations to check before buying
- Price: no current retail price was verified, so do not use an old listing or launch price as a present-day value comparison.
- Availability: regional stock was not established. Manufacturer pages are US or US-targeted, and availability can differ by country.
- Performance: no controlled latency, typing, durability, or value test separates these models. Feature lists are not benchmark results.
- Switch feel: Hall-effect and optical are different technologies, and “linear” or “low-profile” does not fully describe sound or comfort.
- Software workflow: Wootility, SteelSeries configuration tools, ASUS controls, and Razer profile storage may differ in interface and feature depth. Confirm the current software and operating-system support for your setup.
Bottom line
The Wooting 60HE v2 is the strongest like-for-like alternative when compact Hall-effect features, Rapid Trigger, and adjustable actuation matter most. The ASUS ROG Falchion RX Low Profile is the better practical choice when dedicated arrow/navigation keys and wireless connectivity outweigh matching a strict 60% layout. The Razer Huntsman Mini is the uncomplicated wired 60% optical option. Choose by layout first, then switch system and connectivity; no specification sheet here proves a universal gaming winner.
