If you want to record Freeview programmes in the UK, the Manhattan T4-R is a documented option—but it is not a like-for-like substitute for the Panasonic DMR-4X1010’s disc-archive workflow. The Panasonic is a Japan-market recorder planned for release in late October 2026; its 10TB hard drive, 11-tuner configuration and recordable Blu-ray support are designed for a different broadcast market. Panasonic says recordings go to the HDD first and must then be transferred manually to a supported disc.
What the Panasonic DMR-4X1010 offers—and why region matters
Panasonic’s DMR-4X1010 specification lists a 10TB hard drive and 11 tuners spanning terrestrial, BS/CS and 4K satellite configurations. It supports recording to listed BD-R and BD-RE media capacities, including 100GB BD-R/BD-RE and 128GB BD-R, and plays Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Panasonic DMR-4X1010 specifications

The product is a Japan-market model, not an established UK recorder. Panasonic announced it in September 2026 with a planned late-October 2026 release. Its broadcast tuners are not a direct match for UK Freeview or Freesat services, so check the supported broadcast standards and region before considering an import. The DMR-4X1010 does not record directly to DVD or Blu-ray. Panasonic UK Support says: “Recording directly to a DVD or Blu-ray disc is not possible. The programme will be recorded on the HDD first and afterwards the user will be able to manually transfer the actual recording onto a supported disc.” Panasonic UK Support
#1 Best Overall
That distinction matters if your priority is keeping programmes on removable media: a large hard drive is the first recording destination, and disc creation is a separate manual step. Check compatibility for the exact recorder, recording mode and disc type before buying media.
UK option for Freeview recording: Manhattan T4-R
For a UK viewer who wants scheduled Freeview recording and catch-up viewing, the Manhattan T4-R is the clearest documented alternative in this comparison. Freeview lists a 500GB hard drive, up to 300 hours of storage, the ability to record two channels while watching a third, and access to on-demand services. Freeview Manhattan T4-R listing

Those listed features make it an HDD-based Freeview recorder, not an established replacement for the Panasonic’s Blu-ray preservation workflow. The cited Freeview listing does not document Blu-ray recording or transfer of recordings to discs. If keeping a programme on removable media is essential, confirm export and recording restrictions for the exact model before purchase rather than assuming a recorder’s HDD content can be archived elsewhere.
Other platform leads: Humax Freely and Freesat
Two Humax products may be worth investigating if you want a different UK TV platform: the AuraEZ Freely recorder and the HDR-1100S Freesat recorder. The available product-page information does not establish enough detail to recommend either as a direct substitute for the DMR-4X1010.

Choose a recorder by the job you need it to do
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| TV platform and region | Match the recorder to the service you receive: Freeview via aerial, Freesat via satellite, or IP-delivered Freely services. A Japanese broadcast recorder may not receive UK services. |
| Simultaneous recordings | Check the model’s actual recording limits, including whether watching a channel uses a tuner needed for recording. The T4-R listing specifies two recordings while viewing a third. |
| Storage capacity | Compare HDD capacity and any stated recording-time estimate. Hours depend on recording quality and other settings; do not treat a platform’s “up to” figure as a universal guarantee. |
| Catch-up and broadband | Check which on-demand services are supported and whether broadband or account setup is required for the services you plan to use. |
| Playback and preservation | Separate ordinary playback from long-term archiving. Confirm whether recordings can be copied to supported removable media, which media types work, and whether recording restrictions apply. |
| Availability and support | Confirm current UK stock, firmware and service support. These details can change, especially for newly announced or older models. |
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Manhattan T4-R as a candidate if you want a documented Freeview recorder with HDD storage, simultaneous recording and on-demand access, and you do not require a proven Blu-ray archive function.
- Consider the DMR-4X1010 only with region and workflow in mind if you need its Japan-market broadcast configuration and want HDD-first recording followed by manual transfer to supported Blu-ray media. Its specifications do not make it an established UK Freeview or Freesat replacement.
- Treat the Humax models as leads to verify if Freely or Freesat better suits your service; confirm storage, export and current availability from up-to-date product information.
